Similar to Sligo, Roscommon has been “very busy” with Roscommon town seeing turnout of 23% already.

I chose not to vote in the end. Could not decide which side to take.

This is far more common than many people realise.

I would love it if the poll here was a reflection of the referendum. It'll be a lot closer though.

No it's fine. Higher the turnout, the more the Yes will win.

I doubt Roscommon will be embarrassed again.

Got up and went to vote yes a little after 7 AM this morning. Best to get it done early me thinks.

Not voting is not the same as voting no, as it does not impact the vote in either direction. I generally don't agree with people not voting (and utterly detest the idea of people giving out about an outcome they didn't vote on), but having the option to not vote is still an option. A... choice. :p

I would probably rather someone not vote at all than vote cluelessly or base their vote on how their mood was at the particular moment they happened to get up to the booth.

LoveBothDrogheda had a callout for volunteers to act as security and check for ID's at polling stations. The tweet was deleted but not before being report to the Gaurds multiple times. I have a screenshot of the tweet but can't post it here.

Thats a parody account, not connected with the campaign in any way.

    I voted Yes.

I kind of hate it when people say “old people will vote no”. I would probably be considered to be an “old person” but I have had 4 children and have seen a couple of hard cases along the way. So voting Yes was the only right thing to do.

That’s the thing. I actually forgot my phone, so I couldn’t post a picture on any social media platform telling people that I voted. I'm shocking worried now that my vote will not count.

Below is a letter sent to two young Ladies, (16 & 17 yr old)

I have a bit of a question for both of you. No doubt you have heard about the upcoming referendum to repeal the 8th amendment. Myself and Gran have talked a lot about this and which way we might vote, we don't know yet.

We are thinking that no matter which way we vote neither of us will ever have to make a decision about a real life situation. We are thinking that it may be something you both may have to face someday. (hope not but who knows).

16 & 17 yr old of today may be affected, the problem is ye don't have a vote.
I am asking you to have a serious think about the referendum and if you had a vote which way would you vote ? Let us know because we want to give you our votes, you tell us and we will vote that way. Maybe even in a class discussion ask other classmates to ask their grandparents for their votes.

Ye don't have a vote but ya should have a voice.

What do you think of the idea.

    Nana & Granda

They both have had a vote and I feel good about that

And then the whole queue/bus/train/airplane clapped?

The choice not to vote is an extremely important one in a democratic society (so too the Irish tradition of spoiled votes). I do not agree that it is the same as a No vote. It is a position that somebody took, presumably after wrestling with their conscience, unable to vote Yes or No.

(I'm clearly talking here about the people who are consciously doing this not the people who are sitting on the couch and couldn't be bothered voting - of whom I'm sure there are more than a few!).

    I voted Yes.
Walked to polling station with my 2 kids, My 10 y/o daughter posted my vote in the black box.
After she had seen all the graphic signs over last few months we sat her down and explained what the vote was for.
Wife will be voting Yes on way home from work. She forgot her card but I confirmed she can use her driving license at the station.

Yes, but this poll is going to bear no resemblance whatsoever to the end result. I've seen it before when Boards have held these sorts of polls. The boardsies demographic is not reflective of the general public.

    Thank ****ing God.

You should have asked the polling officer to take a photo for you.

Whatever way anyone voted, are there times that you just feel you want to stop the bus that is the modern world and get off? It is probably my age speaking but I find so much of this centre-of-attention instagram stuff so shallow. I believe though that most people are voting the way they are voting for the right reasons.

Well, for Instagram it's too late I'm afraid but you can always post up on FB after the fact, hope that helps, condolences, we've all been there.

My GF's parents and her uncle, all late 60's early 70's, and 2 of them churchgoers, have voted yes.

I guess that life experiences and ability to walk on someone else's shoes count a good deal as well.

I voted with my conscience as I hope everybody did!

    I used a pencil myself.

Technically it's supposed to be an X, but I think any mark that's a clear indication of your preference is accepted.

It's not only not counted, but you will be exiled from the country on Monday. This is not the kind of carry on that Michael Flatley fought at Millstreet for! You should be ashamed of yourself!!!

I've wondered before about referenda, sometimes the choices are not black and white, so a judgement call is required. I had my own crisis of conscience on this, but managed to make a decision in the end.

If I couldn't make up my mind, I would have spoilt my vote, in the hope that such action would prompt a review of the original question, to make decisions in future referenda a little more clear-cut.(probably a bit fanciful, but then, I ALWAYS vote and have done since 1973.)

The amount of double-checking I did to make sure I was X-ing the right box was just ridiculous though :D

Same. I mean I knew it was yes, wore yes badges etc....still quadruple checked I was x-ing the right one

I’m on the No side myself.
However I gave my vote to my 16 year old daughter and she is on the yes side, just about. Not entirely legal I know but I reasoned it’s a lot more relevant to her than me.

Racism is now hiding behind the cloak of Community activism.
