Rumour Ryan Constable to replace Logan?

    Agent Ryan.

    That would be desperate.

Ospreys back row will mangle ours. Going to be a tough ask to win this.

Ulster Rugby team to play Ospreys, Champions Cup play-off, Sunday 20th May, Kingspan Stadium (3.05pm):

    (15-9): C Piutau; L Ludik, L Marshall, S McCloskey, J Stockdale, J McPhillips, J Cooney;
    (1-8): C Black, R Herring (captain), R Kane, A O'Connor, K Treadwell, R Diack, S Reidy, N Timoney;
    Replacements (16-23): J Andrew, A Warwick, T O'Toole, J Regan, C Henry, D Shanahan, D Cave, C Gilroy.

Dangerous looking backline, and speedy 7 and 8, Ulster should look to move the ball wide a lot!

Ospreys forwards look strong from 4 to 8, so it should be an interesting battle if Ulster try to keep the ball in the backs and Ospreys try to keep it in the forwards.

To move the ball wide effectively you need to get Ospreys defenders busy in the middle of the park, which means forwards punching holes and our backrow cleaning out effectively.

Hard to see this happening. No use going wide if Ospreys are free to just fan out across the field for every defensive phase.

Exactly what they did last time! Only difference being they have Tipuric & Lydiate to aid the cause

Yep, having seen plenty of that behaviour from Leinster in seasons in the not too distant past I can attest to that. :(

Bookies have us -4 favourites! Can’t see it somehow.
    On other news:
UAFC mentioning Ruan Pienaar had offered to come play 10/coach for 18/19 season rejected by the IRFU.

If they could make an arrangement that Pienaar could only play 10 when McPhilips is not available then it would have been a good deal.
However if Pienaar were to start all the important matches it wouldn’t be a good deal, need to develop the Irish Qualified players next season, particularly coming into a World Cup.
Would be good to see him as a coach in Ulster soon though.

His contract situation is not very clear.

He thought he was signing an autograph after the away Connacht game, but it turned out it was a pre-contract which he can't get out of.

You'd like to think he can see his potential in Ulster now? throw cash at him now please.
While your at it, hopefully season tickets ramp up again. Get the cheque book out and start announcing all the signings you've been holding back incase we lost to boost PR.

He doesn't play or celebrate like someone who doesn't plan to be around Ulster for some time to come

Dunno about that reasoning, Jordi Murphy had his best season in a long time with Leinster this year and he was leaving.

Could also be playing his best in the hope to win a contract abroad.

But hopefully he does stay, it'd be an absolute shítshow if he does leave.

Potential Squad next season: (International duty, Academy)

    L’Head - Warwick, McCall, Van De Merve, O’Hagan, O’Sullivan
Hooker - Best, Herring, Andrew, MCBurney, McCall, Clarke
T’Head - Kane, O’Toole, Moore, Ah You, Herbst
2nd Row - Henderson, Treadwell, O’Connor, Dalton, Regan, Browne, McCusker
B/Row - Coetzee, Muprhy, Deysel, Rea Snr, Timoney, Reidy, Ross, Rea Jnr, Henry, Jones, Hall, Dunleavy,
Scrum’H - Cooney, Shanahan, Stewart, Cairns
    Out’ ½ - McPhilips, Lowry,
Centres - Payne, McCloskey, Marshall , Cave, Curtis, Hume, Butler
Wings/Fb - Stockdale, Ludik, Gilroy, Addison, Nelson, Lyttle, Busby

Time to get the cheque book out. Priority Outhalf, Loosehead, 2nd Row, Backline. Really expecting a signing to be announced this week? Ulster bound to have something for PR spin for season ticket holders if we  had lost.

Just caught the news and am thrilled that Ulster won today. Super tries from Stockdale and Gilroy.

Congrats. Good to have some positive news from our northern province.

Delighted. European rugby wouldn't be the same without a packed house at Ravenhill on a Friday night on tv. They're going to have their work cut out for them as 4th seeds but they're capable of being in the mix for the knock outs regardless.

But with a pack containing Murphy, Henderson and Coetzee, no team is going to want Ulster as their 4th seed.

Cooney can cover 10, similar to Pienaar.
Also Peter Nelson can cover 10.

Yes but Cooney's also the only decent scrumhalf in the squad, Shanahan is terrible and Stewart is only gone 20 and is quite small.

Saying Nelson can cover 10 is a stretch, he can certainly stand in the 10 spot and that's about it.

We need a LH, and out half and a back three player. I suppose a lot depends on Payne's future.

I've no idea where we will get a LH from but if Carbery doesn't come then I'd be investigating the idea of bringing CL back from Australia if he doesn't make the Qantas team this summer. I'm not sure that the IRFU would sanction it though. But the point is he'd be coming as a 12/15 (I think he can play 15?) who can back up McPhillips at 10, rather than coming to be first choice 10.

To be honest, unless deals have been done, I don't think it will be easy bringing anyone in at this stage.

I'd maybe added Matthew Agnew to the back row options next season, although I don't think he is in the Academy at the moment. Curtis Jnr may be a scrum half option at some stage as Well?

Bilston agreed! Outhalf, loosehead and back three need strengthened. Even go as far as saying we need a heavylock (Ferreira is the man)

We do have a promising academy presently. If the right balance can be found with maximum meaningful integration we could do well with rotation. Realistically academy players need opportunities to be tested, with an eye on the following season and what positions need further strengthened. Still think incoming season should be expectationless and build are basic squad spine going forward.

I can see Carbery going Munster tbh. Would prefer that as well. McPhilips is improving every game.

Will someone of CL’s standard be prepared to come in as a benchwarmer though?
