I haven't seen it yet, but I assume it's one of those films you need to watch in the cinema or home cinema due to the "spectacle"?

Its fairly heavy on the visuals alright, and is meant to be great in 3D, although I didnt have the option of viewing it in 3D at my local cinema.

I'll probably pick up the 3D Bluray at some point and watch it on the Rift via the BigScreen app.

Hmmm, I've the option of picking up a 20 inch BVM for 350 +50 delivery.

350 sounds fine but when you tack on the extra 50, 400 just sounds so much more mental.

Any good ones out there available for a low enough price? I was thinking when I do eventually get one, I'd buy a two channel receiver and a pair of speakers, and go from there.

I can find a monitor for about €500 insured shipping...but since I'll be saving for a trip to Dublin, it's not a priority at the moment.

keep any eye out for a couple of 14" ones , that and 21" are the sweet spot
none are that cheap anymore but worth keeping an eye out for shipable ones

Anyone else see the nice CRTs on eBay UK that are collection only?

If you knew someone close you could get a bit of a deal

Oh man, don't get me started!

I've loads of ebay saved searches for BVMs and PVMs. The amount of 'collection only' heartbreak I go through on a daily basis in that regard has me almost wanting to remove them

I've messaged sellers plenty of times and they have refused to even pack it up and have it collected :(

    Here's a 14" PVM that isn't turning on.
Surely a project from one of the soldering iron warriors in these parts!

    Cheap as chips too
starting bid of £4.99 and shipping of £11.99... might be a PM job...

    pi2scart

Is there much involved in getting them set up & running properly? Kinda have a hankering to modify a decent crt with one over the summer

I knew you wouldn't be able to resist rejoining the CRT Master Race at some point :pac:

Get yourself a nice 14 inch BVM next time one pops up on Dragonbox!

I left it to one side for a long time after I first purchased as I had a lot of issues with timings/resolution etc on the pvm tbh, dug it out a couple of weeks ago and downloaded the latest image and it just works.. no faffing around at all, alot of work has been added by the community and it really shows, its replaced most of my consoles tbh its almost plug and play and it's still being worked on. I'd highly recommend the setup at its current stage.

Last time I looked at rgb from a Pi, it seemed like an absolute nightmare. There are some wonderful solutions out now though, and as mozie says below, they appear to be much more user friendly. It wouldn't replace my existing emulation setup (the Pi just isn't really capable enough for anything beyond 16bit imo), but for 16bit & below, it sure would be nice to have a crt there.

True anything past 16bit will obviously be problematic with the exception of psx which looks and plays incredibly well, finished sotn again the weekend and currently playing through re2.. ill try get some pics later

Please do, the previous ones look class (as in, 1:1 with original console class).

Lads, in the next year or so when I move out I'd like to have a game room for the old consoles, what would a decent, large CRT cost?

Probably feckin' expensive like everything else. But I'd like to have a crisp CRT of a decent size. Not expecting anything similar to the 49" I have, but bigger than the 14" I had growing up :P

Are they hard to source these days? Would I get something decent for €200-300? Just something for me to get down the line, hopefully!

Truthfully you'll pick up a gorgeous 29" Sony Trinitron for €30 or even free on Adverts or Done Deal.
They are a cracking display and the best, this side of a broadcast monitor.
Plus, they will normally have all the inputs you need, mine has two scarts at the back, one of which is RGB, and a composite and S-Video port on the front.
Also, replacement Sony remotes are readily available online, should one be missing.

As it says it was dropped looks like it isn't something as simple as a fuse. I'd rather pay 130 quid for one from dragonbox.de especially since they refunded me 50 for the minor cosmetic damage on mine.

@o1s1n - I'll probably need to downsize my CRT collection and I reckon the BVM will be the one I let go. Drop me a PM if you're interested. ;)
