When I heard this on the TV 3 news this evening I heard Yanny. Shortly afterwards I tried the link in the OP and I heard Laural.

I just played this for my young fella, he's 6, I didn't tell him what the two choices were, just asked him what he heard. He's clearly insane and needs psychiatric help because he said he heard yanny!!! :-)
    I hear laurel!

    Crazy how the brain works!!!

To my ears it's saying Laurel all day every day.

    Thread needs a poll.

I'm able to hear both! Got Yanny first, but then it shifted to Laurel.

If it helps anyone, the 'Yanny' voice sounds kind of high pitched like a character in some Spongebob type cartoon while the 'Laurel' voice is a lot deeper and more refined sounding At first I only had my right earphone in when it sounded a lot like Yanny, but I'm guessing it is actually intended to be Laurel.

Just played the clip where the guy slowed it down and I heard Laurel for the first 2 instances!
    Tried again.... Yanny!

    There's yer poll lads.

No poll option for "neither" ?

I heard this on the (hotel) TV, without knowing exactly what they were talking about, but wondering why they were playing a Stephen Hawking voice saying the word "ee-yairy" over and over again. Listening the to the clip posted above, it's still "ee-yairy" ...

Yanny, but I'm old. Does this mean I've exceptional hearing?

Yanny. I could only hear Laurel when the pitch was shifted up 40%.

It's probably age-related. As you get older you lose the ability to hear certain pitch ranges.
I'm an oldie, I hear Laurel.

I heard a sped-up version earlier on the news and it was clearly Laurel.
At home listening to the original clip it was Yanny.

I won't even let myself into this mindfukcery, nope, not with me, go away.

When my husband played it the first time i heard Laurel but then when he played it later for our 2.5 yr old i could hear Yanny.

Interestingly when we asked little fella "what's she saying?" he said Yanny. (Well actually Annie but he's not great at the talking!)

Anyone who hears Laurel has been mind chipped by the lizard overlords to prove they hear what the reptilians want them to hear.
Us Yannis are the freedom fighters! We must resist th...HELP!!!

    Laurel.

    Definitely Laurel.

Laurel for me, yanny for wife. Asked the kids 3 and 5 to say what they heard, (didn't say either of the 2 to them) both said words/sounds beginning "yan"

Across a pub on the TV3 news earlier, just before six I heard Yanny. Listening to the link in the OP here just now I hear Laurel.

Brad Story from the University of Arizona's Speech Acoustics and Physiology Lab took a fine-toothed comb through the clip: “I'm pretty sure the original recording was 'laurel,'" he says. "The reason it can be confused is that there is a family of frequencies produced by the shape of our throat and mouth."

Well done Laurel hearers and Blue dress people
