    Hi all,

I'm planning on taking a yaching "taster"/course with INSS.

I've never gone sailing before, so I've had very limited exposure thus far.

Therefore, I'd like to get some advice on what to expect as a new starter, what to pay attention to ...

    Thanks!

Bring plenty of warm layers and sunscreen!

They're well used to complete beginners and will take you through everything.

Enjoy it! Is it a day/ half day/ weekend?

Yes, it is a half day course. I thought I'd give it a shot with a couple of half day courses before taking the plunge to take a full on course.

I'm definitely looking forward to it, though I'm not sure what to expect. I hope I like it. I heard of some people who were complete newbies and wound up in love with it!

Enjoy! They'll guide you through everything so no worries.

I'd say just try to remember some of the nautical/sailing terminology they'll be teaching you. Once you learn that it makes learning and taking instructions from the skipper a lot easier.

If you want to jump ahead and prepare yourself to get the most out of the course, I'd say learn some of the terminology beforehand.

    A few examples below.
