Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 (/pro) [WHYRED][China/Global] (Please read first post)

I haven't really had much time to play around with it yet and I'm having problems getting a data connection but with the kid gone to bed I'll try get it up and running.

Just a quick update.
The app to check bands that corkie listed above doesn't have the note 5 listed yet.
I've tried another app but it would only tell me what band I was using at the time (band 3)
I did use it travelling from Waterford to Kilkenny on the motorway and it did drop to H+ in places but mainly where there was a dip in the road.

The phone itself feels like a premium phone and well built.

I installed Nova launcher this morning and finding it a bit easier to use ( coming from near stock on a one plus X)

I did find while out and about in the sunlight today that the brightness had to be turned up to see the screen properly. It just doesn't have the same punch a super amoled screen would have.

Camera is very impressive for the few shots I've taken so far.

Loving it, as I said already above in the sunlight the screen brightness needs to be turned up to see it but other then that it's unbelievable value for money.

Using the portrait mode while taking photos produces some really excellent shots.

I'll try and upload one or two photos this evening after work if I remember.

The battery is fantastic, two days of medium usage and still had 17% left before I charged it again.

95% of the time solid 4G.

My non-global one turned up just now, first impressions on camera are its very fast plus really sharp, have to wait till later to play some more

HK Goldway are still having stock issues for the Blue 4gb/64gb and don't know when it will be available.
Fair play to them they followed up on earlier contact to offer a change to black or gold and a partial refund or gift.
Very happy with the level of service, and as soon as the phone is in hand(in gold! kids!) I'll let the thread know my impressions.

How long usually would HK Goldway take for delivery? Will be ordering tomorrow from either there or Honorbuy. Im not in a major hurry for the phone but just curious.

Don't know about Goldway, but my pre-order from Honorbuy (Placed on the 8th) has been shipped today. No tracking info working yet.

Last time I checked Goldway was about 8 to 10 Euro cheaper.

Edit: - Tracking info is now available.

@South had his device the following day, I wonder will I be that lucky or need to wait until Monday.

I'm happy to pay a bit more buying direct.. I'm hoping it comes on Amazon at the same time, actually - a 40-odd quid premium is worth it to me for peace of mind in case of issues..

Ordered with the second batch of preorders which was due to be in stock on 22nd may. Just got dispatch text from dhl to say on it's way to be delivered on Monday ðŸ˜€

The driver admitted to me that I was the last on route. But he was chancing his arm to ring me first to make sure, I was at home. He rang to say he was outside, when it took him a good few minutes to actually arrive.

It was well packaged in Bubble-wrap pouch, and DHL yellow wrapping around that.

As @south shared unboxing pictures, don't think i need to.

Now to open the phone, hopefully the exception to 360 hours bootloader unlocking still applies for WHYRED devices (problems with the India version.)

If I can unlock easy enough, I can see me using it as my daily driver soon. If not 15 days time.

I'll make another post latter about rom options we have.

The exception is no longer working m8,but if you have two accounts with unlock permissions you might get lucky,

I had to bind my account first and try to unlock but got the 360hr wait,so logout of that and logged into my wifes account and it unlocked first go,

I had already gone to i.mi.com and deleted previous phones from both accounts,

As for roms I'm using the leaked global which is probably whats already on yours,any of the other more vanilla roms have a few bugs like bluetooth calling and fingerprint scanner not working.

Stupid me!

Small world problems!

Just tried to put my sim card (Micro-SIM) in the phone, I assumed incorrectly that it would use the same sim as my Kenzo. At least I have adapter to increase the size if i need to use the new sim in my kenzo.

It doesn't so have to source a new tiny sim (Nano-SIM) from 3.

I created another account with MIUI, did not request me to seek permission.

Logged in with the New Account on my device, DO NOT USE DEVELOPER option to bind your account. And run the unlock tool and your good to go.

What I have seen of default MIUI with ads extra.
I am going to put stable Xiaomi.eu as my primary rom, and hopefully RR as a secondary rom.

So you used a second account and removed any devices from i.mi.com as I had previously posted, I would imagine if the exception was still working then the first account should have worked,

Either way happy days its just a pity you didn't realise you needed a nano sim, you could try cut it but its harder cutting from micro to nano sim,

Lets know how the eu rom goes as this leaked global still has a bit too much miui interference for my liking

Productive afternoon!

Successfully unlocked bootloader.

Flashed Xiaomi.eu stable version with Magisk Root (First time using it), magisk xposed still not compatible with MIUI, i have found out. Cause the system to crash and wouldn't install from recovery had to use the app to try.

Flashed MultiROM.

Flashed Resurrection Remix as a secondary rom, rooted with LOS AddonSU and xposed installed and active (yet to test with apps) Edit: - Some modules I tested worked.

Some hurdles along the way, forget to flash gapps with RR and had to wipe it's data, so the setup process could work correctly.

With the above setup, you can not have lockscreen pin/password on primary rom. Or you will be locked out of the device. TWRP to the rescue to delete lockscreen files. (Have to test if you re-set them once the roms are working.) Edit: - You can set a lock on secondary rom, but not primary rom.

I have TiBu installed in RR, to restore my backups from my Kenzo tonight.

One thing that annoys me about RR, is you can not download the rom, on mobile, need to use a PC. (Hotspot to rescue, limited O2 Broadband vs All You Can Eat on mobile). Edit: - Choose use desktop site in browser.

As for using either of the roms, haven't got around to that yet. Busy setting up the device.

Warning! MultiROM: "This whole thing is basically one giant hack"

My phone is booting to a screen, with only a prompt to "Reset Phone"

About to troubleshoot, luckily I have a backup of stock MIUI,

Need to resort to fastboot and Mi Flash to hopefully restore it using the China Rom.

Not my day!

Successfully got the device to boot, with flashing China Rom in fastboot mode.

Now Flashing RR, staying clear of MultiROM, use addonsu again because magisk xposed would not flash.

Device booted RR, but i Forget Gapps, again.

While download the fastboot rom on my kenzo, the device crash and corrupted my SDCard, allot of downloads missing. But the space is still taken.

Need to backup other stuff from the card and format again.

The Scare with corrupted data partition on my WHYRED is something I did not need.
