Probably when we relocate to the US.

Thanks for your delightful well thought out sarcastic answer.
I could always change the assistant country setting to US and save me the cost of travel, but my question was related to the assistant language for Ireland / UK.

For those who'd like to know more about the new features of Google assistant:

I wasn't being sarcastic to you, it's just very annoying to be in such a tiny market that Google don't bother with us at all even though we tend to buy a lot of tech and are English speaking. The amount of features we don't get across the whole range of products is a joke.

Yeah you can faff about to try get some of it but that isn't always guaranteed to work.

It's frustrating I know. I've contacted Googe a while ago about the availability of Google home and the sale of pixel phones etc. I mentioned the fact that Google has a presence in Ireland with offices (registered address) that they use when invoicing for some of their products they sell in Europe, and why is it that Ireland is left off their list of countries where their products are available. As you can guess, I'm still awaiting a reply.
So while I'm a fan of Google products. I don't like the way they use Ireland for their benefit while forgetting we exist when it comes to their products. It makes no sense to me.

The assistant is there for me now.

Rolling back soon as device is being replaced by Google. Think I'll probably go back to P once the new one arrives...really getting into the slider for app switching.

How stable is this new developer preview? Good enough for daily driver?

I think so. What I've seen so far:

1 - when going from mobile data to wife the transition in the notification bar is a bit fuzzy.
2 - The odd font size is off (like LTE).
3 - Some notifications get missed on the lock screen.
4- The swipe up for the app drawer also starts multitasking so the transition looks a little messy.

I dunno what it is, but it's not a population thing. When I was in New Zealand Xmas before last, I signed up for Play Music and it came with YouTube Red included. No idea why we don't get that here as well.

Yeah I've had it on English US since I got it, previous phone too, it made the assistant voice American.

It changed the voice on the three Google Homes too when I picked the new one.
    Cheers
    Thanks for the reply

Annoying me how much this phone is holding its price, which is probably a good thing for owners, but jesus it can't be got anywhere at a descent sale price. Even grey import sites like wonda and eglobal are practically full price.

I was delighted with the price I paid for mine (not the XL).

£559 for the 128GB model direct from Google.

Most I've spent on a phone but I've been very impressed so far.

+1 for most ever spent on a phone, but after a month or so of using it, it is brilliant. Got the XL and had it on a holiday recently; the quality of pics and videos is unbelievable. So easy to browse apps and web among other stuff, just a great phone.

For anyone that's had to do an RMA on their pixel, do an Post accept the royal mail labels or how do you go about sending it back?

I asked them for an An Post label and they did one up for me no problem. If you already made an RMA and request an post labels, they will ask you to cancel the rma and then they will re-issue it with An Post labels. :)

Excellent, thanks. I'll ask them for those now.

Gonna slow it up so I'll send it to royal mail via parcel motel I think. I'm away for 2 and a bit weeks from this weekend so need to take the RMA they're sending.

Picked up a 2 XL in Heathrow at the weekend. One thing that struck me immediately was the size of the bezels. It can barely be categorised as 'bezel-less' at all, they're much bigger than other phones I've used like the S8/9, P20 or iPhone X. But apart from that and the lack of headphone jack I'm very happy with it so far. Definitely prefer the bigger screen compared to the standard Pixel 2.

I have the proximity sensor issue that's been plaguing 2xl phones for the last couple of months. It's a pain when making a call where the screen remains black and you can't hang up or when on a automated call and you need to used the keypad to enter a choice.
It seems that Google has a fix for it, but it won't be released 2 or 3 months. My guess is that it will be the released with Android P. Other XL 2 users that have proximity issues and that have upgraded to the Android P beta have said that they're proximity sensors have started working normally after the beta update. Is it worth contacting Google to get a replacement? I'm sure they'll send me a new (refurbished) device
