    No such law in Ireland.

So disagreement on the Yes side. Dr Peter Boylan made look silly.

Dr Rhona Mahony said at 9 to 10 weeks gestation that Down Syndrome can be diagnosed with a 99% certainty rate. 50% will abort.
Dr Peter Boylan tried to make out she was wrong.

Yes. He lied months ago now about how it wasn't possible to get these results in time to terminate on the basis of them. On Twitter an eye surgeon said his comments on The Late Late Show recently were incorrect also.

Did you forget that you were posting on an irish message board?

Funny how such a recently registered user can't distinguish US law from Irish law. Almost as if there was outside interference in our sovereign democratic process.

This is phenomenal......it's an indicator of how the Irish people will vote to repeal the 8th

Its great being here without a 'vote no' ad in the corner anymore.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 212 ✭✭Dressing gown

If your reason for voting no is because the foetus has a soul and that is therefore not right, you have to recognise you are imposing your religious beliefs on those that do not share those beliefs. Ask yourself if that is the right thing to do.
But, you are not saving anyone if you vote no because women will continue to travel for abortion or order abortion pills online. Voting no means the 8th is maintained. But it also means you have no say on what goes on in this country. Because the trips over to England and ordering pills online will continue to happen. If you vote yes, you can campaign with all of those other like minded individuals to ensure the law reflects as close as possible your beliefs on how the issue of abortion is approached in this country.

I mean, I’m American full disclosure though I lived in Ireland from 2000-2008 and have been a contributing member here since 2006. Ireland has somewhat of a hometown status for me in some respects. It’s those shilling as Irish Citizens that aren’t I would be concerned with.

I should add to this that even the United States has no federal fetal homocide law that I’ve seen enforced. Even most states don’t. Even Texas!

Anyone else find the Fingal database on checktheregister.ie to be a piece of shit? If you put in a few letters of your address, it’s supposed to give you a list. Nope!

I had to step away from that thread after I posted about my health issues and was told that should I get pregnant I should ‘man up’ and face cancer.

That I shouldn’t seek a termination and should be made carry to term and that if I am not prepared to do that, I shouldn’t be having sex with my boyfriend at all, even with protection.
So basically make a martyr of myself, really, for having the audacity to have a sex life while having a health scare.

Absolutely frightening attitudes on that thread from the very first post.

you should post this in the conspiracy theories forum. i would post a link to it but i'm banned from there.

I’m on the mobile this evening but checked on that - that ban has been on for years. If you’d like to appeal it to be lifted PM me later and I’ll revisit it.

Robertkk, its a bit rich to bang on about Yes literature when the No posters easily outnumber Yes outside the GDA, the campaigners have been out regularly with No literature, No literature was put in children's toy catalogues, various No sites have been masquerading as Yes ones, and a serious problem with the transparency of funding.

Facebook recently took a massive hit with that Cambridge Analytica scandal, and any large tech operation are being very wary with users data, especially with the new GDPR in place now, so you can be damn sure they don't want to be associated with anything untoward with a hot topic like this.

This isn't a new "angle," it was a concern back in MarRef, and its about damn time something was done about it, and the rules apply to both sides, to all side, and the Government need to get their act together, and catch up with that.

I get it, its a bit **** to have to scramble and relaunch a campaign, but when your campaign involved being so ****ing duplicitous, trying to pull a moral high ground on the content of the campaign is the only transparent thing you've done.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 86,725 ✭✭✭✭Overheal

The whole No campaign is based on trying to claim the moral high ground so that should be unsurprising.

That was something I was going to ask in a different forum.
For people coming at this from a religious angle, when do you believe a soul exists. Is it from the moment of conception, in which case all miscarriages no matter how early could have a funeral etc.
Catholic 4 choice say that the soul enters the body at 24/26 weeks, but is not recognised until the 1st breath is drawn.

A bit cultish alright, especially as one of them claimed not to be part of any major religion but is member of the one true faith, what ever that is as all religions claim that.
Also loved the repeal are like the nazi posts while defending certain retain groups and personalities actual links to neo nazi organisations, so comical and predictable too. But in fairness even Indys abortion is a commie plot post with link to the site got deleted.

The Bible talks about the breath of life in a passage or two. About god breathing it into the nostrils.

Not just Fingal, I've heard this in at least three counties so far, best bet is to call and confirm.

I don't have the know how to argue with you on that, but this stuck with me as it was such a similar belief as the form of Islam I'm familiar with.

Might not have the exact quote correct, but it's one of the many times the man has made me cry with laughter, but I'm not a real Christian apparently.

Something like it in the Torah as well, I'm fairly certain.

And I'd say it's in a few other minor religions as well.

I only know because on FB I’ve had some South Carolinians claim that the Bible tells us life begins at conception. A couple days into that conversation I was presented with no definitive passage that defines the beginning point of life. The closest line was one about blood being that which carries life.

I'm not 100% sure on ensoulment, but the Bible repeatedly defines life as breathing.
