Such a heartbreaking episode tonight. Shayne Ward was fantastic and he and that episode should win awards. He played it so very well and so real, you could feel the silent desperation as he sat with his family.

yes i was reckoning that too ...

Sweet Jesus that was tough tough watching. I think they really should’ve done without that Moyra Ali crap and shown a bit more of how deeply Aidan was depressed. Poor Eva - it was done very well. And no matter how many avenues some people have available to them - when they get to suicidal they often don’t want to talk about it.! Toyah should be another one to add to Phelans list of victims - she’s really grinding my gears right now

Could be, I took it as he knew about his baby

No. The secret is Eva in the cottage. He doesn't know the truth about the baby. When he was holding Suzie he realised what he would never have with Eva(or anyone else). If he knew the truth, there might be hope, but he felt there was no hope. Its when you think there is no hope, you despair and when you can't think of a solution, there's only one logical way out.

An incredibly powerful, heartbreaking, thought provoking ending. Shayne Ward was fantastic at portraying Aidan's mental state - don't think I've ever given him enough credit in the past as an actor, but he's played this one brilliantly. Kudos to Corrie for doing this story.

wonder if the actor , Shane ward , will end up on something like Emmerdale or hollyoaks now. He's not been too bad an actor in Corrie - although for some reason quite a lot of viewers didnt like him in it (apart from now with the eva / suicide storylines)

I think I read Shayne wants a dark villian role next maybe Peaky Blinders

Aidan did know. Shayne Ward confirmed this in an interview. It wasn't made that clear on screen but when he held the baby and handed her back to Toyah, seeming moved was a sign. Another was when he told Eva he knew about the surrogacy plot and Eva began to apologise but he cut her off. Makes it all the more sadder because you would think if there was one thing in the world that would make him reconsider it would be knowing he's a dad :(

Not sure if link works properly but it's from a What's on TV interview

does aidan's depression / suicidal tendency stem back to when he give the kidney to carla? - only you saw him with a tormented look on his face then , but in front of everyone else at that time he was acting like it was no big deal and that he was brave but when the camera's turned to him when no-one was looking he looked very pained and tormented

Interview with Shayne ward confirming he did know the baby was his. It seemed tonight that by Eva giving away the baby and hearing the Skype call with Leanne confirmed what was in his head, that he wasn’t good enough. Being a parent sometimes isn’t enough to pull you out of that deep depression.

He had planned to do it before he gave the kidney. He sent the suicide letter to his dad and then intercepted the post when he found out he was a match for the kidney.

I also think he knew about the baby. I took his comment to Eva about whatever she chooses to do with the baby would be the right choice to be a nod that he knew the baby was his and he trusted her. Also the way he said that he had seen her, and held her. Maybe he wanted Eva to know he met and held their daughter before he passed.

Also his comment to Toyah about her secret being safe was surely about the baby.

Didn't see earlier comments. I'm happy that it's been confirmed that he knew. Would have been very tragic if he died not knowing. Just shows how dark depression and suicidal thoughts can be over a person.

But Eva told him that she loves him and he knew that the baby is his. They could have gotten their baby back and lived happily ever after. But he was so depressed that even that wasn't enough. It's heartbreaking.

Shayne Ward was never given a good storyline until now - never - he acted this brilliantly but they didn’t give the scenes enough time to let us see just how depressed Aidan was or how it affected him privately! Not lookin forward to Kate’s acting over the next while - she’s as wooden as a forest.
Dunno bout Shayne getting a future role as a dark villain! Iv met Shayne and he is an out and out gent - genuine to the tips of his fingers.
I hope he gets a great role in something - he deserves it on a number of levels

Apparently Kate goes into meltdown and is angry with Aidan for being so selfish. She's a dreadful character and an appalling actress

Agree, Shane one of the best actors in it and hope he gets some juicy roles after this. Seems like a sound bloke.

How is Michelle related to Aidan?? No doubt there will be preposterous overacting. Not forgetting, Carla boozing big time and will try to shag Peter, Robert, or whoever for comfort

On what planet would there be two girls as attractive as Bethany and the waitress fighting over the attentions of Craig?

Johnny and Michelle's dad are first or second cousins

I think it was covered in another post on this thread before

In the midst of the recent utter dross such as Billy's seventy two hour dip into heroin addiction, the pretend marine biologist story and anything involving the hideous Kate, the Aidan storyline has been really well written and acted.

I must admit I didn't rate Shayne Ward at all, but he has been powerful in it. Catherine Tyldesley's been great too. The black dog of depression is a right bastard.

I’m not sure if many noticed but instead of going straight to credits last night, it faded to black before the credits.

Aidan, surrounded by an all encompassing blackness. Very well done.
