I see SuperValu sell a "Sean's Brown Bread" mix now - just add buttermilk I think. Has anyone tried it? I presume it is the exact same as the premade/bought version, but you would need to do a blind taste test perhaps.

Interesting to see them expanding into this kind of product line

It is very nice actually. Mrs B buys it when she doesn't have time to bake her own.

Made two batches of those cookies last night. One with the cocoa and one without. Personally prefer the chocolate ones. The plain ones spread out a lot more and needed to be cooked for longer.
Prefer the condensed milk recipe for the plain ones, haven't made the condensed milk ones with cocoa for years so need to do a batch of them now for proper comparison. :D

I put chunks of white, milk and dark choc in them and white, milk and dark choc chips too. So quadruple chocolate for cookies for the choc ones. :pac:

I know it’s the food forum but thought you guys might be in the know to help. I can’t get the smell out of a plastic Tupperware and it’s driving me bloody bananas. Specifically it’s the smell of cucumber in a KeepCup. I stupidly used it to bring a juice to work about 6 weeks ago and the smell has lingered ever since. I’ve tried steeping it in hot soapy water, a run through the hot wash in the dishwasher but no use. The smell is distinct enough to ruin using it the cup for tea now :( any ideas?

Bicarbonate of soda! Put in a teaspoon or two, fill up with hot water and leave overnight. The smell should be gone tomorrow!

Vinegar can be good for taking smells out of things and for cleaning things down. If you want to make a meringue its great for prepping your bowl and mixing tools

Thank you both!! I’ll try those this evening and report back :)

Just to be safe, do vinegar and bicarb at the same time, give it a good shake with the lid on and report back with results! :P

I would make a bicarb paste and smear it on.

If the previous suggestions don't work, try using boiling water and disolve a whole dishwasher tablet in the cup. Be sure to use rubber glovrs as it is very strong/corrosive. Leave to soak rhen discard solution & wash well. I have used this with success. Also works to remove labels from glass jars that I want to reuse.

Some labels are very stubborn, it is like the label is waterproof. I get a butchers knife and scrape the blunt end against the label. This usually scratches the label surface, scratching through. Then fill jars with water, cap and dump in a container of water. The water can now seep in throught he scratched surface and properly wet the label. Then take it out and scrape off, it can sometimes take 2 goes of doing this.

I feel like this could be a recipe for disaster 😂

This will also work. But it's messier. :)

I heard putting the container with the label in the freezer and then scraping it off works quite well but haven't tried it so might be worth trying

Oh, let us know how it goes! I've been thinking of hunting out oxtails since reading this thread.

PS: Pics, or it didn't happen :p

The chipotles in adobo sauce are back in the English Market!
I bought mayo especially, and I hardly ever buy mayo.

    Chipotle mayo is LIFE itself.

What are you going to do with them?

Guinness. Flour. Slow cooker. Beef stock. Carrots, celery, onion, maybe mushrooms. Paprika. Tin of chopped tomatoes. Maybe steak pieces too. Thinking stew or goulash.

Food & Wine Magazine is moving to 'digital' only... it had switched to publishing every 2 months but now just online. I guess there will still be some good content, but it was nice coming home to find it had arrived with the post :(

Ah no. My sister bought it for me as a treat every two months. Really disappointed. My nephew would throw it on my.lap and we'd look at the pics together before I became engrossed in it

If it was just me, no problem. But I'd have to tell a few lie's to get the others to eat it.

From the looks of the picture it is 'beef stew'
I'm funny about food but I'm tempted to make some, so if I eat it, would imagine anyone would. :D

I wouldn't get away with calling it a stew though. The youngest one decides if she is going to eat something with her eyes, where as the rest of us will at least taste it. I'll make it into a ragu, serve with pasta and report back.

Anyone here familiar with the food scene in Killarney? Heading down this weekend for the long weekend and hoping to hit up a couple of decent restaurants. Any recommendations?

It has been a couple of years, but I have had amazing steaks in https://www.thesmokehouse.ie/ on High St in Killarney.

It's on. And if the family don't like it, 4 butchers will be joining me sat, sun and Mon till its finished. A few more people too, my dad, a chef in a pub in Clondalkin, and a few friends.
