The VRS 245 or the Leon Cupra would be the obvious candidates. There’s an AWD 300bhp Cupra available now too, a mate has one on order. Saucy enough money too but a good 15k+ less than an S3!

Do the Seat's not lose even more than their Audi/VW equivalents though?
Do VW bring in the Golf R estate to Ireland?

Yes, Seat (especially a 50k one) is likely to have pretty poor residuals.

No Golf R estate in Ireland.

Saw a white one on Galway plates last week. Must be a UK import.
It looks a lot more subtle than the hatch.

I'd say its priced optimistically. 24-25k being a bit more realistic.

Never easy to tell for certain from dealer photos but it does look pretty clean and tidy - the photo of the wheel and the tailpipes, both look clean / not scuffed!

Aside from the sunroof it appears to be standard spec.

Rang a dealer today enquiring about the Polo GTI, he said VW have ceased all new factory orders (for all models) temporarily due to some emissions regulation or some such. Any truth to this?

There could be a nice price increase across the board after the reevaluation.

Btw, if anyone is looking for a nice spec clubsport gti with wingback recaro seats, Frank Keanes have one.

Test drove a stunning GTI today, Indium Grey, DSG with Brescia wheels with a rake load of extras - tech pack, sunroof, keyless etc. Was quoted €46k! While it was a terrific drive I can't justify nearly 50k on a car. Best dealer was able to do was €1k off which I thought was miserly.

Got quoted for a similar car without sunroof & keyless for €42k (incl discount), but then was told VW are not taking any more factory orders until September. So its a case of take whats in stock or wait, with potential price increase too.

    Thoughts?

(EDIT: If the Polo GTI drives anywhere near as well as the Golf, it will be an absolute bargain at €33k)

€1k off sounds pretty lousy especially if it's €46k. I'd expect a bigger discount on a GTI than I got on my Highline.

Also are sunroofs that popular? They like to spec them on all the stock cars but do many people care? I'm sure they're nice but when you're not ordering a car it just adds €1,200 to a stock car.

Has anyone else ever got a warning on starting the car saying 'ACC and Front Assist not available'?

Sensor at the front doesn't seem to be blocked by anything and no visible damage. Only thing I can think that is causing it is that the car is due a service, was getting the countdown notification every day to an oil change and as soon as it got down to 0/due this warning has been coming up. If it is linked to the date that the garage have programmed into the car for a service it seems like a bit of a cod.
It's not linked to the service at all. Usually you get that if the sensor is out of calibration, if it's been moved etc.

Just on this, had the car in for a service and it was 'fixed', was told that I had just turned it off on the steering wheel, which I knew wasn't the case. Drove out of the garage got on the motorway, ACC cut out while gaining speed. Contacted the garage and they kept saying there was nothing wrong, that I had to prove it. Got back into them after a few days with a video showing ti happened hooked it up to the computer and the whole unit needed to be recalibrated. Considering they said they had checked it on the computer when originally in I found it a bit odd. Customer Service and overall experience was shocking.

But it wasn't linked to the service. It's either out of calibration or it isn't, it won't come and go, the sensor knows when the calibration is out and it will shut down the system until it's fixed, it won't allow intermittent operation. There are some software revisions for that system though, is your car a facelift?

It went in the weeks proceeding the service.
After the service it was back working for around 3 or 4KM until it cut out while driving, over the next 4 days it kept going and coming back until I could get back in where I was told it was recalibrated.
    Not a facelift no.

I had this before i sold mine on. 2015. Nothing to do with the serrvice i was told. I was also told thet could not find an error on the CPU.

I told him that i wasn't happy with that but once it was logged on the computer, i would be pointing to that should the ACC act up when the car was out of warranty.

Saw my first Hyundai i30n on the road today.
181D2 in grey, plastered with Hutton and Meade graphics. It looked much better than the baby blue color I’ve seen in reviews and was well able to shift.
The overall design still is a bit too generic Korean/ japanese for me but I don’t doubt it is worthy competition.
Would be interesting to know how many privy punters have actually stumped up for one.

I was behind one in cork on Monday morning red kearys Hyundai, lovely rasp from the exhaust - will post a pic

Just read that the RRP is €39,995!

Yeah... but look at the pricelist for the current GTI.
Spec PP, DSG, paint and a couple of creature comforts and you won't have much change out of 50k.

Genuinely don't know the answer does this, but does the i30n come with PP (equivaelent) DSG and paint as standard for the €39,995?

Think there is 2 versions of i30n. A performance version ups power etc. That one I think its nearer to 42k. And no dsg on them manual only im sure.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,479 ✭✭✭DaveyDave

Saw one in baby blue a few weeks ago, horrible colour. Don't really like the look of the car personally, last gen was much nicer looking. Considering most people in a GTI swear by the DSG would many be persuaded to go back to manual?

I don't think this going to pull people from GTIs but rather put people into a hot hatch if they weren't willing to pay out for a GTI?

Surprised the i30 tourer is back considering they stopped selling it before.

No automatic available for the i30N I don't believe. But 40k does get you the 275PS model with the diff, active exhaust and adaptive dampers.

I didn't see the 275PS model mentioned on their website a while ago, I thought the standard model was starting from €40k? Didn't see pricing for N Performance model.

i think only one model available here the higher bhp one (has 19's and N logo on front brake calipers)

Is there much more spec on them? Excluding the adaptive dampers the manual GTI PP is €1,000 more and from the sounds of things the quality is better on the GTI.
