Obviously, a referendum isn't necessary, but with the likely outcome of this referendum repealing the 8th amendment & making Abortion legal in Ireland & considering we've legalised same-sex marriage, is there any harm in legalising weed?

When you consider the medical & social benefits, reducing crime statistics & increasing tax take, wouldn't the sensible option be to legalise it & take advantage of the benefits?

According to the Washington Post, in states where it's been legalised, teen usage hasn't increased, violent crimes have reduced & tax take has increased.

Would you vote to legalize marijuana? 11 votes

Far too much influence from big pharma for it ever to be legalized in this country.

    20 years.

And depending on how stoned you are that could feel like like anything from 25 to 50 years.

Don't know but I'm fast running out of pain pills here and wouldn't mind sampling some brownies with black coffee on a Saturday morning.

Hemp oil can now be bought in lots of Pharmacies contrary to popular belief. Check out a few and have a chat with them.

The Vintners will never allow it to be legalised for recreational use.

We effectively had legalised drug use when those smart shops were going - only took a couple of outraged old biddys phoning Joe Duffy to have them all closed at the stroke of a pen.

    I reckon another 20-30 years.

Very soon, governments are realizing that it is possible to raise loads of tax on it.

I reckon in the next 10 years but I guarantee the government will make a balls of it and award the first licences to huge pharmaceutical companies instead of trying to encourage small indigenous start ups.

Vote for the Greens at the next election, they want an Amsterdam type set up and have made it part of their election manifesto.

We were talking about this subject 30 years ago. It seemed like a pipe dream (pardon the pun) at the time.

It's looking like it will be available medically in the next few years. I still think that we are years maybe decades away from be legal to have it to be get stoned

With all the tax money that will be earned I'd say it will be legalised within 10 years.

    Legalise the lot, moving on....

Why is the stuff even illegal? I was having a conversation in work the other day and non one could see the logic.

All of the responses were along the lines of “sure cannabis makes you high, getting high is bad”, when I asked them why it’s bad, they just keep going around in a circular argument.

I asked them if they drink, most replied “yes”.

    Hypocrisy.

My sister works as a psychiatrist nurse. Says the weed lads are smoking these days is very dangerous. Nothing like the stuff of old. Extremely strong and cheap. There’s a huge rise in the amount of them presenting to mental health services with severe psychosis and paranoid delusions.

We've gone from forced labour camps for single mothers to gay marriage and soon abortion, in what? 30 years?

At that rate, this will up for debate and voting sometime in the early 2020s.

Never mind marijuana - when will LSD become legal?!

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

I believe it was first made illegal when there was talk of hemp replacing cotton as the main item used to make clothing. All those cotton plantations would have been left to rot if hemp got in so it was made illegal. Or so some stories go :D
