Was watching a cow to calve all day yesterday, kept going out to her, each time I thought I will give her another while yet. Finally at about 6 went out to find she had calved but there was no sign of the calf.

Found calf in deep ditch filled with water with just it's head above the water. Went into ditch after calf and while stooping the buckle on my belt broke and my right boot filled with water. Of coarse the anxious cow overhead was making me a little nervous too. Dragged calf out of ditch and it got up and went straight over and sucked from cow. Think if I went out a few min later there would have been a very different outcome.

I went home holding my pants up and with one squelching foot.

Well done that you found the calf in time . Was the cow bawling that you knew where to look?

He said full marks. The whole class had an oral. The teacher did them. I think it was to catch anyone out who copied their project from a previous year. Voice still not great but a bit better. Not long now until the leaving..... examiner coming next week to ask 4 of them about the project

She was not bawling, but was pacing anxiously in the area. Calf was still warm when I got to him, so it had only just happened. Some times luck is on your side.

Went to the gym this evening for the first time since December. Farming and work and just everything was making depressed. Herself sat me down earlier and told me I've been miserable for months (i didn't think i was, but i was). And maybe regularly doing excersize would help.

Spend over an hour in the gym and it was the best thing I've done in months

Ordered mine with a 25" bar and chain, full wrap handle and large felling spikes, for a large saw its the same weight as a 60cc saw. Go to the dealer and have a look at what they have make sure you handle both

Cleanse your cows at Hook Head.

I know a few cows that could do with a cleansing.

Had a month old suckler calf with coccidiosis today. Got vet. I normally don't do the suckler calves for it. While vet was here I got him to handle a heifer that hasn't been doing well, he was saying lda before he examined her. Turns out she has a massive growth inside and she's to be put down. Never saw one like it before

Some of mine would be "reverted" in a few months, only for the "eye in the sky" and Dept. inspections! :D

Having said that, I'm sure 3500 acres in West Sussex can't all be "desperately bad" land (as she describes it) especially as it was in tillage and maize.
And everyone one knows it takes real good land to grow those big spear thistle .....

No, if you were losing loads of money despite a dairy and tillage operation, it must be more of a secondary income stream, otherwise you'd lease it to some farming company and hunt 2 days, shoot 2 days, fish 2 days and spend 1 in bed with the wifey.

Edit. Nearly 300 head of semi-wild longhorn cattle could keep you busy at herd test time ......

If you think you've had a bad day, just imagine the bollocking Townsend is going to get off Mullins for looking over his shoulder and causing the horse to run out :D

What in fcuks name was he thinking I didn’t back anything but for a seasoned professional to make that balls up I think his job with Willie will be up for review fairly sharping.

What would ye make of that?
Surely if you really needed to do a thorough pre sale check you would have to be buying privately ex farm anyway.

He actually stands up in the saddle as he looks behind him.

The poor horse thought his race was finished when the jockey stood up and that he didn't have to jump another fence and that's why he ran out to the side of the next fence.

It'll nearly resort to having to film clips of the cattle at home pre sale and then have it up for a week beforehand on the marts website.
    Like in the sporthorse sales.

Walking through the green in Ballinasloe during fair week would be an education for the timid around animals.
