We should all be hugely offended about the musings of some meathead American UFC fighter who probably has trouble with basic arithmetic.

He’s actually got a degree in Biomedical Science, funnily enough. Have to respect that, since he grew up in the hood.

He knows what he’s doing, making these ignorant comments. It’s purely trying to make the headlines and build towards a match with McGregor.

If any of you take offence to this absolute nobody then you're not Irish. We're only offended if someone calls us English let's be honest. Otherwise who cares. No one would say that to an irishmans face. Let's be real.

I hate to break it to you but if you watch a sport that involves knuckle dragging neanderthals hitting each other you have to accept that they're going to say things that aren't particularly intelligent.

Just on the flip side, they're not all neanderthals. Rich Franklin has a masters in education (I think) and a degree in mathematics. Shane Carwin holds two degrees and is a mechanical engineer by trade. Mirko Cro Cop was elected to Croatian parliament. I'm sure there's plenty more.

Thats bull**** to be honest. The majority of mma fighters are ordinary decent guys.

This particular guy sounds like a tool though, it's a bit pathetic really, reducing yourself to that in the hope of maybe getting an acknowledgement tweet from McGregor. Mma has gone to **** the last few years

This is exactly it tho Riff. He's a UFC fighter, not The President of some country. Who cares what he says?
Fair enough if you are/were a fan of this guy in that sport, it would be a small bit dissapointing as a Irish person to hear him say that. But its a bit much to coming on here expecting Irish people who don't follow UFC to get worked up against this one lad who they never heard of and don't really care about.
I like to listen to obscure underground music from the USA but if one of those artists said something bad about the Irish, I wouldn't be up in here like "Look what this pr!ck DJ Spookytooth said about us!" because nobody would care and either would I really

Let’s be honest, the reason that certain people are so desperate for everyone to take offence here is because the plonker who came out with this guff happens to be black.

There’ll be denials and ‘how dare you!?’ but that’s what’s happening here.

If someone has to be racist to make some money and effectively ruin their reputation i actually pity them more than anything.this man would do more to look at the history of the irish and how we were treated in certain coutries than to degrade us with racist comments in order to generate more revenue for wealthy americans.

Who the hell is asking anyone to get worked up about anything? I thought it was relevant to an Irish discussion board, nobody is forced to comment and I've yet to see someone get worked up.

He's a nobody to you. But it's alright man, you can relax because you don't have to speak for everyone.

I know who Kevin Lee is because I follow the sport. I'm not surprised most people don't know who he is and as a result don't care about his comments - that's fine.

The point is though some people know who he is and find the comments about Irish people bizarre at best and offensive at worst.

Imagine if Harry Kane came out and said something like that. It would be a talking point for people who follow football. I'd imagine most people wouldn't give a **** either but it would be news. What's the harm in highlighting what he said, it's not like you hear comments like that everyday.

Anyways, Lee is off my Christmas card list. He'll just have to live that.

BECAUSE it's stupid. And disagree. If McGregor spouted racist rhetoric of a similar nature, he'd have serious problems.

The homophobic stuff he got hammered for recently wasn't even directed at the gay community. If he openly said something similar and directed it at the black community the way Lee's comments here are pointed at Irish people, he'd definitely be finished.

And that's taking into account that McGregor is a much more valued cash cow to the UFC than Lee is.

From what I heard he said nothing racist. If he was singling out Asian-Irish people you might have a point. Irish people are always calling Americans fat and loud, is that racist?

Ok. Then I can say that Ethiopians look like monkeys.

I did not refer to any race, only a nationality, ergo according to your logic it’s not racist for me to say that. Open season...

They’ll do mental gymnastics here to get out of that one but what you said is bang on the money. A good amount of the people on here saying “oh no double standards” and “ah, are you triggered?!” would be the most outraged of all of the above scenario went down.

I've never in my life been offended over what someone I don't know said. However, I think Lee should be called out on it and for it to be highlighted.

I read it on r/mma and I said I'd post it here because it's an Irish forum. Most of the users on Reddit are American and the majority said his comments were unacceptable. Not here though, instead a lot of comments seem to be having a go at anyone who could possibly be offended over it rather than what Lee said - which is strange.

Who could care less? Americans and millenials love to be offended by every little non PC triviality. Life is too short for such nonsense. Most of us have never heard of whoever it is that is causing this "outrage", so aren't too put out. However, everyone loves a chance to be witty and post an edgy comment on the matter. No harm done, it's another glorious Monday and there's no urine on my cornflakes.

If a black American celebrity that people actually give a shit about, say someone like Denzel Washington or Morgan Freeman, said something as moronic this it would be in the papers and on RTE. However in general Irish people care as much about UFC as Americans care about GAA.

And his statement is too ridiculous to be offended by. "Irish people all look the same because they all have red hair and freckles". He's doing this to get a rise out of Conor McGregor but he seems to have never seen what Conor McGregor looks like.

It would be a talking point because his dad is Irish. You can tell because of his massive potato head.

It's Kevin Lee, he has the mental capacity of a lobotimised termite and the social grace of a pubic louse.

The guy has a shrine to McGregor and his marketing tactics.

Calling people "monkeys" is a racial slur though. He didn't make any racist slurs which is what I was getting at. His ableist comment was the worst thing he said.
