A man in a sport where self promotion is a huge part in how far you go in said sport says something people don't like in an attempt to rile them up and hopefully tune in to see him get beat up in a fight that could possibly involve someone from the country he was disparaging.

Yeah you're right. I can see loads of people in this country - with a population of 4 million -subscribing to BT Sports and staying up until 3am hoping to see Lee get his face smashed in.
Or as someone said above, the UFC marketing team came up with the whole thing. Guess we'll never know.

BECAUSE it's stupid. And disagree. If McGregor spouted racist rhetoric of a similar nature, he'd have serious problems.

The homophobic stuff he got hammered for recently wasn't even directed at the gay community. If he openly said something similar and directed it at the black community the way Lee's comments here are pointed at Irish people, he'd definitely be finished.

And that's taking into account that McGregor is a much more valued cash cow to the UFC than Lee is.

Or the tens of millions of people who identify as Irish American in the States? Just a thought? If you've watched any Kevin Lee interview for even a minute you'd know the marketing team didn't script this. He's probably one of the best on the mic in the company.
