The best times this country ever experienced were when Bertie was in power. Fact.
We should at least thank him for that.

But his family did really well out of it- Cecilia Aheran a successful novelist

There's not enough outrage about when the last FF government made it compulsory to buy her novels... oh, wait

    And I HATE FF.

With a nice big brown smelly present on his gravesite.

Those questions wouldn't be asked here in the land of 'ah shur God love him'.

Mario Rosenstock will love that, some new material for him.

    He doesn't do "new material"..

When Sebastian asked about the fact that he might be a Presidential candidate - eh, let me re-word that : candidate for election to office of President - he replied "that's for another day"

He should have replied "I wouldn't countenance such an insult to the office or the people of Ireland". The fact that he didn't reject the suggestion immediately is the thing that struck me most. The rest we already knew.

Hard neck alright, though its been a while since I've seen him surrounded by acolytes in the Beaumont House.

It was he smugness about her success that really left a bad aftertaste with me, insisting that her name had nothing to do with it and the fact that she didn't even get one rejection letter was down to pure good luck. Yeah right, her surname definitely helped her in the door, no matter what she claims.

This is getting like Ross from friends.... "but we were going through a divorce "

Oh Albert, you incorrigible, corruptible bastard.

He went on a show called 'Conflict Zone' and expected to get his arse kissed like royalty regarding the GFA. The man is a clown and an embarrassment who should take what little credibility he has left and just go away. Please.

I think you'd have a point if she hadn't been hugely successful. Her debut novel was innovative and sold a ton. So, not unusual to have been seen as having potential from publishers. I remember the gist of it - haven't read it.

    P.S. I hate FF

Cecilia Ahern writes like a 12 year old. Her first book might have had a cute idea but that's it. Her writing is basic drivel for simpletons. Her popularity, like that of Fianna Fail, speaks of the same atavistic mentality that plagues this nation.

Rosenstock has enough to do with his never ending Wee Daniel gravy train.

Sounds like he got more of a grilling than he ever got from the media over here. I hope he has to answer questions like this until he decides to stop appearing in the public eye.

Fair play for the peace process Bertie, fair enough, but let's not pretend you weren't a dodgy politican and you and your cohorts left the country in a shambles by the time you'd left office. This political rehabilitation nonsense for him and some in his political party is a total nonsense and shouldn't be entertained.

I believe Bertie will run for president. In the past few weeks, he has been appearing more and more in the public eye, and I think this is a testing ground for him before he declares his intentions.

    Not a hope IMO.

There's still enough FF'ers who'd vote for him.

I still don't think it's pointed out enough that there are FF'ers in the shadow cabinet who were involved in his government. Every single one of them shares responsibility for the fcuk up that was the last FF government. I wouldn't consider voting for FF until after every one of them and every person who supported them has left the party.
    Guess that's never then.

The Irish electorate were stupid to elect this guy head of government.

The people who elected him as equally to blame.

To be fair he was interviewed for his part in the GF process which he played a massively important part in, like it or not.

That has had a hugely positive effect for many. Like it or not, he deserves a bit of credit for that.

And, no, the slithery guy creeps me out, I amn't defending him. I just amn't afraid to acknowledge his role 20 years ago. It may not have impacted your life but it has many many others

You seem to not know how the appointment of a Taoiseach process works...........

Unfortunetly Berties croked dealings, and how he played a part in destroying this country, will always over shadow his dealings in the GFA, so much so, you would nearly forget his contribution to it. Which is a wee bit of a shame, but its enough to never want to trust the guy again.

Where as Tony Blair might be remembered for being Bushes Lapdog, and a War Criminal, I would still rate him somewhat on his GFA agreement agreement, and I would probably still thank him and credit him more. Thats how I feel about Bertie. He squermed his way through Government, his way through tribuninals, and he is still squerming now. Its just a shame RTE are not prepared to ask similar questions to him, or our current officals.

God forbid he ran for President.

If Bertie ran for FF again he would poll quite strongly. You often here auld lads and auld ones reminiscing about the Bertie days.

This really shows up our media for how pathetic they have been. We will never learn.

To be fair, they didn't now he was a corrupt toad when casting their votes.

Maybe in his old stomping ground he might, but in a presidential election he wouldn't have a prayer.

If he does run for president, I would expect he would be asked questions about the Mahon tribunal in the live debates....and there would not be any walking out of that one. He might want to rehearse his answers for it a bit more.

I will give him kudos for his role in GFA, though.

I don't think he'd have a chance this time around. He could have a good chance of winning the election after this one. In 7 years

True. one a side note it's weird that Mo Molam is always left out when people remember the GFA.
