Two left here. if I had another couple of rows only calving now for the 'grass' there'd be no loss on them either!
Just the year that's in it I suppose.

Just had another jump in protein%.
Two days ago it was 3.27.
    Today's text it is 3.47.
    Milk urea 20.

    This is a good trend.
In 20 days time I should be over 5% protein.
    Who needs jerseys? :D

5% left to calve. Dragging a bit. Sold a few undesirables yesterday springing. Scanned a few more and found a few to sell 3 winter ladies also sold, just not up to snuff. We didn't even scan them as we wouldn't keep them as passengers till October. Trying to limit groups to 3 or 4.

IS 21% pr not a bit high for this time of year?

From what base? The law of diminishing returns has to kick in at some point.

Normally yes. thats why im only buying 4 tonnes at the time. also feeding 3 kg of maize meal and 2 kg of oats. they're getting 3 kg of 21% in parlour. Cows getting a good bit of grass during the day but in at night also feeding 20 kg of silage and .5kg straw. Cows in great condition milking 28 litres 4.14 fat 3.44p . Winter/spring calving . Hope ground conditions improve fast as straw is nearly gone and silage is getting low.

    Just wondering how this works?
If you change ingredients, protein % or ufl, etc how do u know that you are receiving the competitive group prices?

Zero I would assume. Very good day just focusing on the basics of growing good grass. Great to get out of the yard for the day and talk about grass actually growing instead of it not!
Lovely set up and a lovely family too, they have two great young lads working along side them aswell! Nothing complicated about anything the O'donnels are doing but they are doing it all the best they can

Cows and farm looked super after such a tough spring

I wasn't at the walk and don't know the family. They look like serious operators, seems to be from the few bits on line that it's number of rotations that is driving such high grass growth rates.

Bad evening here. Had a cow sick with mastitis, haven't seen that with 20 years here. Had something to treat her so hoping she will do OK.

Then 3 calves sick with scour. Rotavirus like scour but not showing as rotavirus on the test bottles. Had to get the vet out for fluids, 2 bulls seem OK now but the one heifer is borderline. Fecking thing comes and goes away again for a few weeks and then BANG, back again just as you start to relax a bit again:(

Following an emergency board meeting on Tuesday night, the chair of LacPatrick has been instructed to initiate merger talks.

Started ai this morning. Ai man said morale is very low on any farms he's been at. Breeding season is the last thing on most lads minds.

Putting in the new scr tag system here next week for fertility and health, was dreading facing into the messing with tail paint and kamars that used to go with ai'ing

270 for a high maize 16 with mineral pack/megalac and soya-bean meal as protein source, the economy spec 16 they do would come in at 250 but would be a lot poorer quality nut ingredients wise

Hard to beat how simple tailpaint is tho, I painted all the milkers about 10days ago, did rough check this morning and over half rubbed off, will do all again 1st May when I start serving, whatever cows have it rubbed off in the morning will get served, top up the paint a different colour the following day, 4wks max effort on it all and bull goes out. And no AI on the heifers, just run the bull.

Not too surprised to be honest. Farmers have not been happy with current management for a while now. Sad to see our co-op being run into the ground like this.
