There’s a serious bit of ticket marketing going on by Ulster on Twitter. Three tweets trying to sell tickets for Saturday and counting.

    Hopefully nobody is buying them.

That will be very helpfull in sorting out UR’s many problems alright.

That's fine. Just don't moan about the lack of signings next season.

The elephant in the room is we don't know if PJ and/or SO wanted to stay. Regardless of their real intentions, they had to publically say they wanted to remain in order to negotiate the best exit settlement possible.

I must say. The trial for my diminished brain was very easy. The boards analysis to me is mind bending. People, ye are the greatest wordsmiths and wordbenders I have ever read. I have not got a clue any more. I admit it. my Christian brothers education did not prepare me for such sleight of pen. Are you all in the legal field?
The to and fro is exhilarating. All are making valid arguments. Well, except 1. Absolutely mind ****ed am I. Congratulations to all, for the education that you have given me, both for and against. I believe the Irish are the best talkers and clearly you guys are the summit of in this.
Very good explanations, incredible and valid arguments both sides and passion galore.
Ladies and gents, I tip my hat

URSC have published the results of their poll. They are going to take option C. No protests.
In total, 390 members responded – some 42% of the Club’s membership – as follows:

A Pleased they are gone, they have brought disgrace to Ulster Rugby. See you on Saturday. 17 (4%)
B Move on, we are a Supporters’ Club and we support the club not individual players. See you on Saturday. 64 (16%)
C Disappointed but not surprised by the outcome. URSC to write to IRFU/Ulster expressing same. 176 (45%)
(NB: many respondents changed “disappointed” to “appalled”).
D Appalled at the outcome – protest at the Glasgow game. See you outside on Saturday. 80 (21%)
E Appalled by the outcome. Boycott Glasgow game. Won’t see you on Saturday. 52 (13%)
The Committee also noted that whilst a third of members were appalled and wanted some form of protest, it was the Committee’s view that such action, whilst cathartic and no doubt headline grabbing, would have little impact on the hierarchy of either the IRFU or Ulster Rugby. Protest would also likely adversely affect the remaining playing squad for the last crucial matches of the season and would be disrespectful to players like Tommy Bowe making their final home appearance.

The URSC will therefore be writing to IRFU/Ulster Rugby next week to express members’ considerable dissatisfaction and disgust at the recent turn of events.

If the Committee believes that it would be disrespectful to the players and adversely affect the team, why the hell would they include it as an option? Given that they specifically highlighted that a third of members "were apalled and wanted some form of protest", it seems fairly clear to me what they were leaning towards. No highlighting of the fact that the overwhelming majority wanted no such action.

It appears to me that this Committee is out of touch with the majority of its members.

They aren’t even really following the option the members voted for!

    Not many respondents.

We've no real idea of the membership, but at worst it's probably one third that replied. Almost half wanted the letter written, so I suppose that's the majority.

It's not as clear-cut a response as some people were anticipating though.

    There are 928 members.

What's interesting is that 45% went with the "disappointed but not surprised" option, but the committee is going to write to express their members' "disgust".

I'd say the lure of participating in / winning the European Challenge Cup next season made it odds-on that they both wanted to stay. It's always nice to end one's rugby career with a trophy of some sort.

Surely we do have an idea. 390 members is 42% of the club's membership right?

That's 928.5 people. The half-man must not have responded :pac:.

    Huh?

45% voted for a letter, which was more than voted for any other option. They are writing a letter.

    Ah no they explained that!

Supposedly the respondents wrote in their own answer! They said "appalled" which has been translated by the extremely scientific and foolproof committee process and has come out the other side saying "dissatisfaction and disgust".

It was an email poll so we have no idea what additional comments members made along with their vote. They already admitted many respondents changed "disappointed" to a stronger word.

Also the fact they have absolutely no proof and just look bitter.

If Jackson and Olding resort to whataboutery and threaten to tell tales then they become more unemployable than they are now.

Oh, and their story remains in the media. How on earth does that benefit them?

They are best advised to keep their heads down.

‘Whataboutery’ comes into play if the IRFU didn’t pay them off and they took an unfair dismissal case. You can’t treat employees completely differently, especially certain ones much more harshly, for similar infractions. We have documented cases of other players being involved in nearly every aspect of the case aside from the charge itself, which the two were found to be not guilty of, and those previous players never received a public reprimand or game ban let alone discussion of a ‘sacking’.

Even other incidents with players that are not so closely related.

The IRFU are more than happy to bury bad PR when they can be relatively certain nobody is going to find out it. I am fairly sure there are multiple players at multiple provinces who have benefited from the IRFUs seemingly fantastic ability at killing stories or keeping them under wraps.

This was not an exercise in values, it was an exercise in optics. I am absolutely certain both players would still be playing for Ireland and Ulster if this case had been tried in the ROI.

This whole thing is irrelevant. I had assumed the membership was much stronger given the amount of discussion and media coverage this got.

They are infinitely more relevant than the views of anyone on this forum.

They get media coverage because of their relevance.

The attempts to diminish their relevancy is bordering on the bizarre.

If ever there was a time for Ulster's PR team to throw us a bone on a signing, squad update, direction?
More worrying Treviso are 1 point behind us home to Zebre! Glasgow is a must win as I can't see much happening in Munster.
