For some reason militant feminists don't get riled up en masse over child porn.

A decent, humane suspended sentence by Judge Nolan today and fair dues to the Garda too. I hope that unfortunate woman can make a new start somewhere.

Prime example of why mandatory sentencing doesn't work. I'll concede kiddy porn might be an exception.

Yeah, it's not quite in vogue these days is it?

They're not that bad, just fighting for women's rights and what they believe in.

Did he produce it? If so he should be in jail for a very long time.

Even 'just' paying for it should be treated very seriously as that funding is instrumental to the perpetuating of the crime. Distributing it would also be a separate issue.

If none of those factors are present here that makes this very different. While the sheer volume of images in question here is huge, the aspects I mentioned above are really key for assessing the gravity of the crime.

There was some mention of his involvement in it in a few videos but not production/distribution. He wasn't charged with it though, the charges were receipt of images/videos, possession of it and destruction/concealment. He's a monster who abused hundreds of teenagers and a totally different category to Phelan but to actually be able to fully suspend a sentence for a higher total of child porn is just inexcusable.

This stinks of corruption with a paedo working as a senior civil servant getting no jail time. My guess he had information on someone powerful enough to get him a get out of jail card.

60,000 Images/Videos how much money did the paedo spend obtaining these

Was he funding the abuse of children for his sick pleasure

Well, the article does say 'most' of the stuff was naturist rather than pornographic - these are actually legal and legally couldn't be classified as child pornograpy. It might disturb some people to know it's incredibly easy to find pictures of naked children online using that angle, just using Google.

While no level of child porn is ever OK obviously, the actual number of pornographic images/video in the eyes of the law is probably relatively small which would've affected sentencing.

Watching someone being killed is the same as killing someone? If someone gets a kick out of watching videos about Auschwitz that makes them guilty of mass murder? It doesn't. They might be a sick individual, and maybe even a potential danger to society, but the harm done in a crime is pretty important in the measure of a crime.

Your attempt to rationalise this behaviour through failed analogies is worrying.

This sick piece of sh1t paid someone (directly or indirectly) to rape multiple kids for his own sick depraved pleasure. Not have sex with them or make love to them. Rape them. Destroying the rest of their lives beyond repair. That's if they managed to survive.

    BASTARD.

Judge martin f*cking nolan as I suspected. He should be forced to resign as he seems to think being a pedo is ok...
What's wrong with being pedo? (having Paedophilia F65.4 disorder)?

Your disregard and trivialization of the holocaust is deeply alarming.

I'm not really familiar with this case but judging from the other comments here I'd say you probably don't know this, but are making this up.
    BASTARD.

    Um.

That 'article' could have been written (better) by most of the posters here tbh.

The law is a joke-case in point. https://www.irishmirror.ie/news/irish-news/cork-woman-who-killed-cyclist-12420849

Woman kills cyclist with her car because she wasn't watching the road, and gets a suspended sentence.
There seems to be a distinct lack of empathy in the court system, of basic justice-similar to cases of paedophilia, it seems if you can afford a good lawyer, you can get away with anything-similar to the chef Tim Allen case.
