While knowing what transpired would most probably be torture, not knowing would be a never ending torture of questioning. I'd rather know, no matter how hard it would be.

Good riddance. I had assumed he was in the central mental hospital and not prison as he seemed a bit nuts.

Closure is not about revenge. It's about understanding the how, when, why and what. It's incredibly difficult to have a family member die without someone they love nearby. Even worse when you've been denied any knowledge of her state of mind when she died, and the person who killed her providing nothing in the way of an explanation.
And you think they'd have gotten any of that from a criminal trial?

They have, or they may not. But this way they'll never know.

Any evidence is still qualified guesswork though, right? Someone who slipped off a steep hill to their death would probably be in something of a similar state to someone who was brutally beaten; both in terms of the levels of hormones in their body and the injuries sustained. But the stories of their last minutes/hours/days of life would be completely different.
Do people generally wait until the trial to do a big reveal? I thought that was generally just on TV.

I think the victim's family will be happy enough with this outcome.
It saves them going through a painful trial where the crimescene and last moments of her life are poured over in detail.

I think they would also have to write a letter every couple of years saying why he shouldn't get parole. And he probably would get parole after 20 years.

All in all a satisfactory outcome for them and hopefully some closure.

I'd wonder was he on suicide watch?

What was the reason he murdered her?

Coke, according to rte news. Jumped out the window to try to kill himself but a garda stemmed the flow of blood

Also said there's 3 investigations going on into his death. Seems a bit extreme to me TBH, if someone wants to kill themselves they should be free to do so, in jail or otherwise. Saves the cost of incarceration, trial etc.

Paints it as a "nice guy whose life was ruined by drugs", but from hearing from people who knew them, he was never exactly husband of the year material. Losing his job, having an affair and becoming a coke dealer was the end of a long chain of sh1ttyness.

Meh, due process. Always going to be a coroner's inquest during a sudden death, and the prison service will have to have their own to figure out how he did it.

Maybe there's a 3rd investigation required since he was in custody awaiting trial, and not a "real" prisoner?

That he was just an abusive bastard who couldn't grasp the fact his wife was entitled to end the marriage and decided if he can't have her, nobody will?

Who knows really, but that's my guess. Also fits with the cowardly suicide instead of facing up to the consequences of his actions.

To be fair there are questions about how someone who was on suicide watch committed suicide. I'm not mourning him but it shouldn't have been possible.
