Went with a girl I was totally infatuated with, then we had a massive fight on the bus to the hotel where the debs was on. Didn't talk to each other at all for the whole night and I haven't seen her since

Ah jaysus goon that's tragic. Would you not drop her a cheeky facebook message and apologise? :pac:

ETA Can I say how flattered I am that you registered an account just to post this.

We were just friends for Debs in 84. We're married 27 years now.

I'm too proud, still waiting for her to message me. It'll be any day now I'd say. And yeah, I'm glad this was my inaugural post :pac:

One of my sisters married the person she took to her debs, she was going out with him from the age of 16. I would say it's not an uncommon story.

Bit of a weird one, went with my first love, but we had broken up a couple of weeks before. We still went as friends, and had a really nice night together. I went off to college soon after that (she was a year behind me in school), and we lost touch.

We eventually re-connected on Facebook a couple of years ago, and I saw that last week she got married. Must drop her a congratulations message!

Went with a mate to her debs. She got smashed in the face by some lads elbow by accident and had to go home. I stayed like a true gent that I was. Cringe at it now. Debs were awful.

    It was a Friday night.

Her old boyfriend was a d*ck. He brought a gun to school

I had doubts whether I would go.

She sealed it with two tickets to Iron Maiden.

My debts was in 1995. I didn't go. I had the ticket bought but my date and I ended up booking a Club 18-30 holiday instead to Ibiza. We're still together.

Asked an out of town girl who was very pretty. She brought her mother and granny down to see her off and I had my brother playing chafeur. On the night she broke out in hives all over, which luckily didn't affect the night in the slightest. She got married recently and I liked the post on fb. The grey area between friends and acquaintances!

Mine was my teenage love. The first guy to proper break my heart.
So I had been to his debs the year before but he dumped me that summer ad he was going away to college. To say I was heartbroken isn't an exaggeration.
Anyhow my debs was a year later so I invited him back because I still had feelings for him...but the magic had gone.
He was now a college boy and I could tell he was distant and didn't have the same feelings for me.
    That was in the 90s.
I have no clue where he is now but I know it's not back at his home town. Don't know if he's married.
I always hold him in my heart with a lovely nostalgia because at 16, that is magic but now if we met it would be polite chit chat for 5 minutes I'd imagine as we have nothing in common or aything shared since way back when.

No debs in our school but all the LC class went for a few scoops in the pub.

Was going out with someone at the time so was with her, last I heard she was in London and married.

I believe he went home with another girl from my class after the night was over.

I went to mine with a lad that I was friends with in my class although going by the way his older sister went on in the house and taking the photos, I think she thought we were together which was awkward. :/:) Not sure what he's doing now.

Also went to a debs with a neighbour who i grew up with the next year because he didn't have anyone to take. There was no romantic interest in each other, just good friends. Havent seen him for years but he was a lovely fella and is married now afaik. Met his older brother out a while ago and he was laughing saying there's still a picture of us on the night up his mother's house :)

Mine was a guy I'd been dating for about a year and a half; really it was well and truly over by the time my debs came around. He was forever cheating on me. Pretty sure he was seeing someone else at the time of my debs (didn't stop him fooling around with me though...) and just came with me to honour his commitment.

Never saw him again, although we share a mutual friend on Facebook, so I can see that he's living abroad and managing a bar. Seems to have been engaged at least twice over the years, although never married from what I know.

Didn’t go to mine. Spent that evening sitting in a small cafe in Barcelona sipping glasses of beer imagining the chaos. Best decision I ever made

When did the debs first become a thing in Ireland out of curiosity? I remember it was already well established by the 80''s.

It took me a good ten minutes to remember his name. He was a friend of my friend's boyfriend because I went to an all-girl's school and knew the total sum of 2 boys by the time the debs rolled around. Ah the innocence!

Exact same situation here. He wanted to go so I brought him along. He was very nice to me all night, especially when my phone was stolen and I cried!

Still see him around the town and we always say hello but that's about it!

she is living in Australia. Got married about maybe 2 years ago. Both of them are working on a farm.

I was asked to my brother's debs by a girl in his class. I was her last choice. I was finished school a number of years in my early 20s. I was in the same class as her sister.
She is working in old folks home and didn't move far from her home and is living with her sister. Both not married and kids free.

Not me, but my Wifes Sister went to the debs with a guy called Alan.

He ended up as deputy leader of the Labour party...

Brought a childhood friend to mine. Had a small fling during the summer after I'd asked her but had fizzled / run it's course long before the debs. Saw her about 10 years later. She told me she was living her Sex and the City life. Lovely girl but I remembered very quickly why it had fizzled.

The following year I was asked to someone else's so went because a lot of my friends would be there. Didn't really know her and called down to her house to pick her up. She answered the door wearing jeans and a jumper which I thought was weird - no matter what, my opening line was going to be "you look really nice" so I stayed the course. She looked at me with a big scrunches up face. A few minutes of chat in the sitting room of her parents gaff with her and the family the whole time me thinking when was she going to get dressed - then my actual date walked in. The younger sister of the girl I said looked really nice. I was not a good date. Went out with a friend of hers years later for a few years - needless to say she never warmed to me! Haven't seen her in 10+ years.

    Funny I attended 4 debs.

1)My first long term girlfriend of 6 months, her debs was the day I buried my Grandad.
To say I was in no mood to party, but she was a c**t that night dumped me the next day for a lad she snogged thinking I couldn’t see!

She was in the West someplace, after she changed sides!

    2) A girl I met at one of those summer colleges cause your **** at some subject!
We went as friends. Ended up more then friends but it went no where really
She went to Galway to College, after that not a signal idea.

    3) My Debs brought this girl ^^
Ended up having a ****e night, treated her like ****e because I saw a chance to snog one of my mortal enemies date.
****ed up any chance of going any further with either girls!

    4) My next long term Girlfriends debs, great night, good laughs, smoked weed drank beer, laughed, cried!!
Got home, woke up and apologized for the stupid things said!!
Funny enough everyone I had a great time with at that debs are still some of our best mates.
Married her, 7 years married this year.
    17 years together.

Went on my own because my bf didn't see the point in spending all that money on one night (I got a loan of a dress off my cousin, he'd have had to have bought a suit and all that), but I had a great time on my own, chatted to loads of people, both girls from my school and guys from the boys school in town. Me and the bf are still together, although my debs wasn't all that long ago :o
