Bit superficial way of looking at things? There's an element of that type of "I'm a 6 but my wife's an 8' but you can't reduce a relationship to that?

Talk about the age of anxiety.

I was without a doubt punching in my last relationship. She was a high fashion model. My friends were more impressed with the situation than I was. She's just a normal person like everyone else. It was very annoying when we broke up because she did a job with Dunnes around the same time so there was enormous posters of her all over the place. Not ideal when your trying to move on :pac:

No wonder yis broke up then! It's a wonder she got work as a model, she must have been black and blue. :pac:

It's not just men who hear this! I was dating a guy years ago and I had girls ask "how'd you get him?" all the fcuking time. Both strangers and friends. I mean, if ever there was a backhanded compliment. Well in fairness, it was more a flat out insult. Funnily enough, dated a guy recently who definitely one-upped me on the hotness radar but no-one said a thing aside from in a nice way - i.e. he's a good looking guy etc. - but no comments that referenced how we matched up. I'm starting to think maybe it's a confidence thing too; if you seem confident and secure in yourself and your relationship then people aren't really going to make those comments.

I hate the whole premise of the idea. Someone can be generically good-looking and you just might not be into them at all - attraction is completely subjective.

She was towards the end of her career (not even 30, fickle business!). She had done all those top fashion weeks all over the world up to then.

    OOOOOHHHHH PJ dates models!!!

    I'll kindly gtfo :pac:

Of course it is. When George Clooney is done with 'em, they all find their way to the jungle party sooner or later... ;)

    Yeah reeeal hairy and awkward

He's not your standard "pretty boy" type but not all/many women are into that, I'm certainly not. He's off the charts attractive though.

Sorry in a rush didn't read through the thread but I'm a cruiserweight and my right I'm told punches at heavyweight levels but my left is a bit weak and punches more like at light heavyweight level so guess it all evens out, anyway hope that helps.

I think so too, however I also think his nose resembles a spud, and she isn't really "gorgeous" either, but they are both good looking people for sure, just not in the A-list good looking. So they fit each other well, looks-wise.

For me, "gorgeous" means the epitome of beauty, as flawless and well-proportioned as it can go without being a supermodel, so that would be Kidman or Theron or Jolie in their primes. Blunt - not in that league. But I know many would disagree with me, and that's ok. That's just my take.

All of which just goes to show you how subjective attraction is in the first place.

And I wouldn't see her as over-the-top gorgeous either. I doubt the public view would be that Krasinski is "punching" with her - though that seems to be how he seems the relationship.

He's definitely a ride though, weird nose or not! :-D

To be quite honest I'm not but he has something else. We'd be walking down the street and I'd see women try to catch his eye. His look is different I guess.

I usually get looks from women mostly whenever I've been walking with one already!

Flaws, wonderful flaws, SIA!! It isn't like the more flaws the better but flaws humanise beauty, IMO.

Yeah, sometimes these little imperfections can actually add more character to someone's looks, and not necessarily in a bad way! For example, in the above case, I reckon that it makes him look more "boy next door", more "dependable", regardless of it being true or not. He'd have a completely different facial look if his nose were differently shaped (as is true for all of us). And it is interesting to speculate how much of an influence that would exert on his personality? And would he have fallen madly in love with Emily, as a differently nose-proportioned individual..? :D

This just reminded me, there is a funny saying where I come from: "History would have taken a different course, had Cleopatra had a shorter nose." :D

ETA: yup, cantdecide, I was going down that track already!

I'm better looking, he is smarter and has very good social skills. I'm often told how lucky I am to have such a great partner. I'm not sure ge gets the same when I scowl at people. :D

+1 This is the case with the vast majority of couples. They tend to bring roughly equal levels of attractiveness to the equation. Study after study has born this out. Just going by physical beauty can throw up mismatches alright but with a bit of digging the other "equalities" show themselves. Even then in my experience anyway it's rare enough.

The ratio of men:women would be pretty high on this one though. twould be rare enough to see a massively plain jane looking woman with a ferociously hot man, but the "equalities" compensate so both are grand-out like.

T'would, but one could argue that you see more massively plain John looking men with ferociously hot women because men's social status is a large factor, whereas women's social status isn't to nearly the same degree. You see this in extremis with very wealthy/famous men who might be older and look like the back end of a bus, but are walking hand in hand with a younger dolly bird. You occasionally see it with high powered women. Madonna would be an example in her latter years. She was no plain Jane when young, but if she wasn't Madonna that ship would have sailed, yet she has gone out with a string of good looking toy boys. If anything that shows some inroads into sexual equality so fair enough. Though historically there have been a couple of older very powerful women, queens and the like, well past their prime who took a succession of much younger lovers. It is rarer though and much more frowned upon.

Many worry about Artificial Intelligence. I worry far more about Organic Idiocy.

Most of my better looking female friends are with plain or ugly guys. Their reasons are that the guy is far less likely to cheat on them, the sex is better (since the guy isn't relying on his appearance), and generally, they're more aware of whats happening in the relationship. My good looking male friends would say something similar although while their girlfriends aren't stunners, they'll all have great bodies.

Personality seems to trump everything else, because they've had plenty of casual sex previously and being with someone hot isn't important. The trade-offs aren't worth it.

I can't think of any relationship I know of where both people are good looking. There always seems to be a difference between them. One good looking and the other not-so-much.

It's funny but I tend to see this more often the other way round. I know offhand of 5 or 6 couples where the bloke is objectively much more attractive, not in a "quirky" kind of way. Not that it matters a jot, they all seem really happy in their coupledom.
