It's funny but I tend to see this more often the other way round. I know offhand of 5 or 6 couples where the bloke is objectively much more attractive, not in a "quirky" kind of way. Not that it matters a jot, they all seem really happy in their coupledom.

I think it has to do with age and life experiences too. When I met my husband we would have been on par, both young, fit, kept ourselves well, had money to spend on ourselves. I think time is tougher on women. Men tend to age better.

I used to have a girlfriend, but I guess she couldn't compete with all the love-starved women who keep clamouring at my feet.
if you loved her you'd have beaten them off with the proverbial icky sticky stinky stick

I dont agree men age better at all from what I see, in my area anyway all the housewives all try really hard with their appearance and all have very well cared for hair, makeup, stay in shape, nice clothes, and most men 45+ are just bald, fat, bad skin..maybe if the women tried as little as the middle aged men do the men would naturally look better but the way it is currently women age a lot better imo

Looks wise definitely punching above my weight. The handful of after hours posters that have seen myself and herself will testify to that. She looks like a sexy librarian, I look like I've no place in a library. Intellectually however, we fill each others gaps. She's also an 'uptown girl' as the legend that is Billy Joel brilliantly put it, whereas I'd be the backstreet guy he refers to. I'm happy enough with my lot.

I was punching above my weight once because she was taller than me. I'm a short arse but I'm a gorgeous fooker from the neck up, so maybe that balanced it out.

There'll be no equality until we burn all those pedestals.

Depends on how you rate it, I guess.

My partner is significantly more attractive than I am, physically. I'm overweight, and female, which is far more unacceptable than being overweight and male, in my experience of the dating landscape. My partner is maybe a little short, but he has gorgeous eyes, a cheeky smile, a beard, is of an average size and fairly fit, runs 10km a few times a week. He's not head-turningly hot but he's good looking and presents himself well. I don't doubt there are people who see us together and raise an eyebrow.

On the personality side though, we couldn't be a better match, and ultimately that's what matters in a relationship. He's introverted like me, has a seriously dark sense of humor like me, we're both comic and game nerds etc etc. I chill him out a bit and he motivates me. He could have a prettier girl, but I think as far as the rest goes we're about equal.

True enough Wakka and would mirror my observations. Men can age better on average with the same, if not a lesser amount of effort. If they make the effort. They don't have to deal with up and down and then switched off hormones that woman have to and they don't get pregnant and give birth. OK they can do little enough about going bald(unless they throw big money at it with variable results), but they can put down the fork and cakes and stodgy beige takeaways, stay active and fit and look after their skin. Men have most of the advantages in ageing. In a healthy man his hormone levels drop at a very slow rate over his lifetime, he'll have more muscle mass which burns fat just sitting there, his skin is thicker and he has more collagen. A woman getting middle aged spread after having a couple of kids is one thing, but IMHO otherwise healthy men have no excuse to let themselves go.

Many worry about Artificial Intelligence. I worry far more about Organic Idiocy.
