In my on going search or maybe just my messing around, I drove a 2012 f10 520d with 80000 miles yesterday and there was a huge amount of interior wear. It had cream leather but it was cracked in a lot of places which kind of exposes the little black marks. Didn't look well. The writing on the stop start button was faded and rubbed away to the point I could barely read it. There was another button on the climate control I don't know what it's meant to do because it was completely smudged and worn away.
The steering wheel was well worn too.
The car has a full service history and had been in BMW network all it's life but I actually hope it's clocked, otherwise it was just a very poor interior for an 80000 miles premium car.
My e60 is approaching 125000 miles and doesn't show any wear like that. Not to mention that the 4 cyl 2.0d is not a patch on the 2.5 6 cyl petrol I have just for smoothness and responsiveness. And mines only a 523i.
Although in terms of speed, the 2 cars would be roughly similar.
Then I went back to look at the 640d GC I viewed last week. Same age, same mileage and interior was lovely and the 3.0d 6 cylinder was a beaut.

Sounds like you've made up your mind..

People can be very hard on interiors also irrespective of mileage. My current F10 has 75k miles on it and the interior is perfect. All boils down to how well it was looked after.

Whilst the oyster black is gorgeous IMO it doesn't age well at all unless it's really taken care of. When I was looking at f10 and 640 anything older than 2 years generally didn't look great, unless you get someone with OCD with cars which is quite rare.

I've a nov 11 F10 in black leather and 135kms and have none of the wear you describe above but I've taken serious care of my car. It's still like an almost new car inside and out.

The 640d would have the same inside materials for steering wheel, stop/start button, aircon controls etc.

I'd say the f10 you saw just wasn't minded, I've seen some that were absolutely destroyed from previous owners.

Absolutely - irrespective of make or model. I've seen much newer cars with small miles on dealer forecourts in absolute bits! Some people are just dog rough and will wreck it in no time.

Also anything's that's been smoked in, has carried a lot of kids etc, will generally look worse...

Might be a generalisation but I've found with f10 and 6 series, if previous owner was a woman the interior was destroyed :D

2 of our cars on the bond fleet have oyster leather and 2 with black leather. The black looks like new, the oyster is beginning to show signs of wear and just seems to absorb the dirt.

Yep, oyster needs a lot more maintenance than black. My previous 5 series had black leather and in 2 yrs I may have cleaned it 3 times. Already cleaned the oyster leather in the latest car twice and I barely have it 5 months.

A good leather cleaner and protector is a must.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,558 ✭✭✭JoeA3

All they need is an occasional wipe with a leather cleaner. Gliptone or something similar. Very little effort and they come up like new.

Yeah didn't take into account the owner could have been very hard on it. I was just surprised to see so much wear. I think I'm easy on interiors myself and any car I've had has been like new after many years. I guess I just look after them.
Anyway, like MarkN my search continues too, I could end up in anything at all!
Smart money is on an older 635d or f10 530d.

Just realised the date, today and tomorrow being the last working days in March, quarter one targets are going to mean it's a good 24 hours to be buying!

    Here's 100,000kms...

New probably around €70,000-75. BMW dealers looking for between €60-65,000 for the same aged car anyway.

I'd say that G30 would have retailed closer to 80k when new going by some of the extras I can see on it. It also has the M Performance kit on it which ain't cheap. Absolutely nuts buying one of these brand new given the depreciation but I say fair play all the same so the likes of myself can buy them a few years later a good bit cheaper. Lovely colour combo too.

Someone with a 171 730d arrived to visit today and I was admiring their new car. They bought it in one of the larger main dealers here in Ireland just before Christmas for only a small few k more than the 530d linked. There are still amazing deals to be had on nearly new cars by all accounts.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,661 ✭✭✭Voodoomelon

The great thing about all the early G11 7 series, even the 730ds is that they're incredibly well specced. Really refreshing to see. I see myself skipping the F01 completely, especially with the worst V8 ever made in modern history.

I see Beshoffs have a very nice 640d GC, comfort seats with unique accents, very nice.

Next week, I'm in no mad hurry as I taxed my current car last month for 3 months. The new car will not be registered until 2nd April as I'm not paying tax for the month of March twice especially when it's nearly over now.

    Congrats Bazz and well wear.

    Fair play to ya.

I nearly missed it - did you mention the purchase/ the purchase process elsewhere/on other threads?

Did you go brand new? G30 530d are an amazing car.

I always follow you with interest as I have had similar if lower spec'ed cars.

Currently on the second F10, love it but they are now advertised at around 13k/14k less than mine was advertised when I bought 27 months ago!!!! Scary stuff - over 6.5k drop a year.
My F10 is 141 - was yours the same or a 132? (I think your one was msport)

I think you had said (as had others in work) that BMW dealers are offering brutal trade in prices for the f10 against the G30 so I have been looking at the e class, volvo (saloon and suv) and keeping my F10 until it gets to bangernomics price!
(Mine is due its final free service shortly so interesting to see what they suggest as regards changing.)

Bazz any comments/advice public or via pm very welcome.

Must be a great weekend looking forward to collecting 530 on Tuesday!

    :):D:)

    Fair point.

Just as we had similar car histories and he had mentioned poor trade in values for the F10 so I had a personal interest.

Obviously any advice/feedback from other LCI F10 owners welcome.

Cheers for the well wishes MJ. It's actually another F10 M Sport (my third I know) but the 530d is a different prospect to a 520d so it feels like I'm stepping into a totally different car.

Collecting it next Wednesday as I didn't want it registered the last week of March. Looking forward to it now and like a big child waiting for Christmas morning to arrive.

PM sent around figures I got when shopping around.
Ah our Bazz is a great boy really!!

Ha, ha - the cheque is in the post Mr Bond.

Enjoy. Looking forward to seeing it here and the spec.

Great job - send the PM when ever you get chance.

I was in Colm Quinn Bmw in Athlone yesterday.
They have some stock of M cars!
They told me they are the top selling Irish dealer for m performance Cars and outsell the Dublin dealers.
A man picked up his new M5 while I was there. Singapore grey, lovely noise. They have an azurite black one in the showroom. They also have a new m2 there. They had four m3/m4 second hand models for sale and two used m5’s.
I never saw so many in one place before.

And they won't be offering you what the cars are advertised at as a trade in price.

That accepted surely the depreciation you mention wasn't unexpected?

Saw the light grey M5 they had in the showroom a few weeks back. Absolutely stunning looking machine altogether. Fastest M car ever produced, 0-60 in 3.2 seconds! Not for your average Irish motorist that's for sure...imagine the cost of ownership...

That’s the one that was being picked up while I was there, I’d guess. Some lucky lad from Monaghan who also has 6 series and a few more Bimmers apparently.
Think I saw your 525d touring that you traded is still there too.

Very surprised that hasn't been sold yet. Nice compromise for those not interested in the 3 litre engines but looking for more power than the usual 2 litre.

Or did the offers for 330e vary much versus the Dublin dealers.
