Driving in tight car parks I turn on the parking sensors with the button (BMW E65) to help judge the front. It doesn't look too bad. Well wear.

Would you believe I did that but the beep that suggests you're about to hit something will sound even if you're close (but not hitting) things so I just assumed all was ok. Some touch up stick sorted it anyway, it's hardly noticeable but it was very annoying so soon after getting it.

What kind of finance rates did Beshoff offer?

Not any sort of finance, no. Personal loan or credit union would be the two main options.

I went with a place at 6.6% in the end.

On the noise from the sunroof, baby oil into the seal might sort it, I've heard others say it did. Just so weird that the knocking from it actually sounds like a suspension/shock issue it's that kind of noise but it's a piece of rubber. Very misleading!

Baby oil will dry up/drain out of the area you apply it I would think. Better off to go with grease or Vaseline.

So here we are a year on and I still love the car. Yeah, I've the odd itch for a G30 or a new GTI now and again but I really will struggle to replace her. Soon enough I'm going to have another seat in the back for a small human and while I manage ok with just the one, loading two in is going to be hassle. I am also sceptical about an infant seat (with the retractable hood etc) fitting between the isofix base and the back of my seat which obviously can't go any further forward as I can't do anything with my legs! I tried it with another seat recently and it was very tight. I was out in a dealer for something else the other day and one of the guys who I know came over for a chat, he asked was that my car outside and when I said it was, he said he has a space grey Gran Coupe coming in this week with 20,000 miles less than mine, 2013 so a year newer and said it's mint, not sure if it's LCI model yet. Looking for fair money to come up a year. I don't know if there's any extra legroom / baby seat room in the rear over the coupe but I'll obviously take a look.

In a few minds really, keep my own and just deal with the hassle until 2019 when G30 prices will fall a bit more for a 2017 one (wife has a Qashqai too but when she goes back to work mine will be used daily to transport them too), come up a year for the money you'd expect really or look at something else. I think the coupe is a better looking car but I also like the GC, there's still not many of them around and I love space grey with oyster leather which the 2013 is.

This reminds me of the thread I started on the pros and cons of 6 Gran coupe.
If I recall the gc is 5 cm longer wheelbase than thecoupe so better rear legroom and obviously rear doors make putting kids in and out much easier.
How much money to go up the year to the gc though?

€6000 hopefully but I’d squeeze every last drop out of the deal so it’s extremely early days.

If you got a good warranty with that I reckon 6k is decent enough.
Fitzgeme didn’t speak well of the way the gc he had drove though. I think rear doors with young kids are essential.
I also think gc is better looking than the coupe.

That's not a bad price to go up one year and 2 extra doors imo. Is that from a BMW dealer?

I pulled the trigger on a 530d yesterday that's just one year younger than my current 520d but obviously there a decent enough jump from a 520d to 530d to outweigh the age thing. Once you get the itch to change is very hard to ignore it imo.

Congratulations on the pending new addition to the family btw.

I'd think that's a fantastic price TBH..... you'd be upgrading to an extent as well as going up a year.

20k less miles is significant too.

If the GC is tempting you I'd really see the 6k as value. I'd nearly fear the chap has his sums done wrong.

Cheers Bazz, congratulations on your own arrival, did you get in a dealer? What colour?

Wasn’t a BMW dealer but a main dealer none the less.

Cheers Mark. Yes from a dealer (non BMW) but not collecting it till sometime next week. It's carbon black, not my preferred choice in colour but sometimes you cannot always get every box ticked when buying used.

Did you test drive the 430 Bazz? Obviously you weren't swayed in that direction!

Sounds like a very good deal Mark, newer car, colour of your choice, less mileage and most importantly those two rear doors for getting the little ones in.

Just wondering would you be casting envious glances at the LCI models which came out in 2015 (i think)?

Yes Joe. It's just wasn't for me coming from a 5 Series, I knew I'd probably end up regretting it. The 430d felt quicker and sharper than the 530d but I found the 430d less comfortable even though both are M Sports on 19" wheels. That and the money being asked for it made the decision that bit easier for me. I guess it's all relative though to what you are coming from.

I'm probably just experiencing mid life too, 10 or 15 years ago I would have jumped for the 430d without blinking.

I think the LCI 6 Series appeared in late 2013 not long after the LCI 5 Series.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,910 ✭✭✭✭mickdw

I'd imagine a BMW dealer would be looking for 11 or 12k to do that deal on marks car. They would probably offer 26k for current car with gc advertised at 37995
6k to change sounds like a better deal than you would manage selling private.

Apparently they just upgraded the navigation system in 2013 bazz. The subtle changes to the body styling were only introduced early 2015.

To be honest I wouldn't pay much to move from a coupe to GC - ive 2 small kids too and that killed the dream for me, back still too tight and very low down. Just not practical for 2 small kids IMO.

Keep the car for another 12 months and enjoy it, then move onto the G30...

Very possible. They also got the newer M Sport steering wheel and side indicators moved to the door mirrors in 2013 but they may well have given it another nip n tuck in 2015 until they ended production recently.

Yeah I’m pretty sure the lci came out late 2014 as a 2015 model.
The newer style steering wheel was sometime in 2013.
    Can’t imagine would’ve a deal breaker.
I think 6 k sounds good value. Maybe he got his figures wrong as I would have guessed 8 to 10 k from an independent and 12k plus from a Bmw dealer.

To go up a year in anything in that segment for only 6k sounds like a good deal in my view. Does that include a warranty Mark? Are 4 doors worth less than the 2 door version?

@carsfan2 - You still interested in a 6 GC yourself?

I think they are a beautiful looking car but probably not for me. I probably will buy a g30 5 series at some stage in the future if I stay BMW.

I'd assume so, it's a VW dealer that takes in a bit of fancier stuff.

Am I mad to still find the GTI appealing!!?? :D

I always thought the LCI was 2013 due to the steering wheel etc but now you all say it, the digital clocks etc seem to only appear in later ones that I've seen for sale online.

A G30 was never on the cards for me I'm afraid, even the 520d version are still out of my price range. They probably will drop significantly over the next year or two as they hit the two to three year old mark.

If you like the GTi then I wouldn't consider it mad, however JoeA3 who might add his ownership views found the Golf's boot on the small side especially compared to the 4 Series GC he has now. Might be something to consider with all the baby stuff that will accompany the second arrival.

I was in BMW dealer last week looking at g30’s.
We were arguing over cost to change etc and they wouldn’t budge on value of my car beyond coming up 500 euro. They were selling me cars they had brought in from Bmw uk.
On his computer the sales guy pulled up his stock list and left the office for a second. I spied a quick look at the screen and on the far right column there was the figure the cars were standing them. There was a 10k difference between what the car cost them and what they wanted for it.

was that € landed cost though, including VRT? Not surprised though, don't know why anyone would trade in in Ireland at the moment with BMW, they're giving such bad deals on your car and you can just sell privately and import so much cheaper.

25%+ gross margin target on one year old ish stuff?
Ambitious alright but enough might be tempted I suppose.

There’s dealers out there that will import something like a G30 520d for you, make a few quid and you’re getting the BMW warranty anyway on the car. They’ll undercut BMW dealers by €3-5,000 and everyone’s happy. It would be the way I’d go if I was getting one anyway!

In terms of what the BMW dealer wanted, was he fair on the trade in or was he really taking the piss by wanting 10k mark up and also robbing your trade in?

The offer for my car was lower than I was offered elsewhere alright. In a follow up call to me, I have told them what I need to do a deal and they said while they want my business they have to make a living and my figure is unrealistic.
