Hmmm...can't seem to find the product guide for the GTI, they only have the price lists for the standard golfs on the VW website annoyingly.

It can be hard enough to find it as they bury it under all the marketing waffle. A google brings this one up but it’s a year old. You need the latest version of this: https://www.volkswagen.ie/content/dam/vw-ngw/vw_pkw/importers/ie/downloads/product-guides/170330_ek_New%20Golf%20GTD-GTI-GTE-R_%20March%202017.pdf/_jcr_content/renditions/original./170330_ek_New%20Golf%20GTD-GTI-GTE-R_%20March%202017.pdf

Awesome, thanks! Seems broadly in line with the configurator...I can't imagine there would have been too much change YoY

I've had my eye on one of these for a long time, have just joined the club this week. To be honest I thought the price of 3/4 year old models was a bit much and wasn't going to bother, but my old car died and I was forced to just bite the bullet. Picked up a manual GTI PP a couple of days back.

I'd test driven a few and definitely think I'd have preferred the DSG but I needed something quickly and was trying to keep the price down, so settled for this. It was missing a couple more things I'd have liked too but I'll make do. Already regretting not getting the R though after not being able to get it out of my estate this morning :p

Nice one. I think a manual PP is the pick of the range. I haven't driven one but would imagine it would be the most craic.

Deffo a manual GTI if it were me. Made for manual.

Well, just pulled the trigger on a new GTI today - went for the manual in the end. The DSG was impressive but I still just much prefer manual cars!

    Dark Iron Blue
    19" Brescia Wheels
    Technology Upgrade
    Keyless Access
    Dynaudio Sound System

I only really wanted the technology upgrade to be honest but I didn't want to wait 10-12 weeks for a new one to be built as I've already agreed a deal to sell my existing car privately so I got one that they have already configured and should be ready within a few weeks. The salesman was great to be fair, knocked off the price of all the extras I didn't originally want plus a good bit extra with the sale event they have on at the moment! Can't wait to pick it up

    Very nice!
The wheel upgrade is a must - good choice. The standard wheels are not easy on the eye to put it mildly.

Dark iron blue is a really nice colour. Very like the old blue graphite.

    Congrats :)

I've seen a good few GTI and GTD lately, passed two of each today which is more than usual. Brescia wheels look nicer than the standard wheels. I think the Santiago wheels have a bit too much going on.

The facelift is really nice in the metal, makes the car look a bit more premium imo.

    GTIs age so well though!

Has anyone else ever got a warning on starting the car saying 'ACC and Front Assist not available'?

Sensor at the front doesn't seem to be blocked by anything and no visible damage. Only thing I can think that is causing it is that the car is due a service, was getting the countdown notification every day to an oil change and as soon as it got down to 0/due this warning has been coming up. If it is linked to the date that the garage have programmed into the car for a service it seems like a bit of a cod.

Was in FK yesterday the place was jammed for a Friday afternoon, 0% on Rs, double contributions on GTIs... would make a man think!

I wonder would the contributions effect your discount or trade-in?

If I could still get a good discount in addition to a contribution or 0% that would be great. I must keep an eye out for next time.

It's not linked to the service at all. Usually you get that if the sensor is out of calibration, if it's been moved etc.

That looks exactly like the GTI I ordered haha - which FK was this? Was that a manual? Trying to get them to let me have it as soon as possible! :D

Nope it didn't effect it at all - that's what made me pull the trigger in the end, got a really good deal!

    Liffey Valley, manual with cloth.

Just seems a bit too coincidental. Was working fine, car was parked up and then not working as soon as the car recognised a service was due. Bit of a pain to be without it after becoming so use to it.

Picking up a new Golf tomorrow so I gave my 152 Golf a thorough cleaning today including removing spare wheel !! I was surprised to see the boot area was soaking wet .. anybody here notice this with their cars ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,917 ✭✭✭✭Toyotafanboi

They sometimes leak through the body vent behind the rear bumper, makes an awful mess with all the fabric stuff under the spare wheel.

Friend of mine had it too but eventually the source was found to be the hinges on the boot lid. Over tightened from the factory which compromised a seal. Another one I’ve heard is the rear view camera, the drainage tube for that can perish over time.

What golf are you going for?
Did you do well moving from your 152?

Is this extra €3000 + €3158 of equitiy in the old car? So if the new car is ab €28k (manual, 5dr hatchback) you went with ab 25% deposit? What’s the APR ? 0.9 or 0%?

1.9 % finance on new car couldn’t get the 0% as that is only available on ‘selected’ cars .. salesman turned around and pointed at a turmeric yellow

In the end we went with a non metallic colour plus tech pack .. car was in the country .. also of course I checked around Frank Keane Liffey valley and my local dealer here in Navan where I finally did the deal ..

What sort of fuel efficiency do people manage to get out of these? I've a GTI PP manual and am only getting about 22mpg for city driving, I thought it'd be a bit higher than that.

That sounds quite bad tbh. It must be exclusively stop start traffic to be that bad? And if that’s the case, the GTI is probably the wrong car for your driving.

An average of 32-34 is what I’d typically expect. A bit more again if it’s long relaxed spins.

You were offered a better deal and an awesome colour and you said no?! :O

It would be mostly stop start city driving, with some trips down the M50. I would very rarely leave Dublin. 22 is what I measured on some short start/stop trips. I think it's doing about 24-25mpg overall since I got it.

I only do about 6000km a year so fuel economy isn't a huge concern of mine, I was more wondering if there might be something wrong with it.

The on board computer is very accurate imo, so have a look at what thats telling you. There's a setting there for "MPG since last refuel" (it resets every time you fill up), which I found handy.

22 still sounds very low. If I was stuck in an almighty tailback all day every day I'd accept it but if you're stretching the car's legs even for short-ish journeys I'd expect high 20's at least. My Golf R averaged 27-ish and I do mostly short hops.
