Chinese people dont touch the ****e theyre serving us, so really its Western "chinese" food that isnt chinese at all.

Their own authentic food is miles apart from takeaway food and very tasty!

Modern Irish and British Chinese food was originally brought by Hong Kongers after a massive fire in a slum back in the 50s. Lots of people were relocated to the UK and the food Branched out. Hong Kong food is generally Cantonese.

There is also a Vietnamese influence, again due to Immigration.

So if you're getting people from Beijing or Shanghai coming to live in Dublin, Cantonese/Hong Kong food is the equivalent of us eating Greek food. It's just different, different climates, different food accessibility, different cultures.

    Well, yes. Naturally.

There are 4 Chinese takeaways in my hometown. Only one is decent, but it's nowhere close to tasting the same as traditional chinese food... but then, it's not meant to.

Just as western food in China rarely comes close to tasting or being presented like we would get here. Western food in China outside of exclusive restaurants, is a parody too.

Well, exactly, it's what that Goodness Gracious Me sketch parodied - "Going for an English", the idea of Indian twentysomethings getting drunk and eating prawn cocktail.

This is a matter of opinion. I find Chinese takeaway food in this country truly disgusting. Have I tried all the takeaways? Of course not. But I’ve tried plenty, for various reasons: being outnumbered on a “where will we order from?” vote, naivety in the early years, thinking that a place looks decent etc.

Without fail, the food has been disgusting. Excessively greasy, excessively salty, often really sugary, meat often of crappy quality. And they are ALL the goddamn same.

I’m happy that I’ve tried a large enough sample to make a fair judgement. And, yup, I find it mank.
Next time, try asking for the 'real menu' (though it's probably easier to ask in person). Some have them and some don't but it's basically like getting food from an entirely different shop - the stuff on their main menus is apparently largely just taken out of big tubs, etc. I mean to each their own, but I'd agree 'Chinese' food in Ireland is largely congealed, greasy, oddly-sickly-sweet sh*te that their own probably wouldn't touch with a bargepole.

Kind of like finding an Irish pub in Asia that did 'stew' made from SPAM meat and a tin of veggies-in-brine or other some unthinkable nastiness.
