Why are picking on AH only though?
Plenty of posts from vegans within your selection of threads and elsewhere.

One of your links was a commentary on the - in your face goveganworld - anti-farming rubbish posted on billboards around the country.

Another was from an alternative / plant based diet aficionado etc who posts mainly on such topics.

A couple are typical AH banter and in the usual mode of the dissection of a range of sacred cows

However I would suggest much of the commentary by non vegans is because of overt coverage in the first place. Take for example the recent shyte storm whipped up by some militant vegans over Philip Boucher-Hayes "what are you eating" show. It's not that he has only looked at one type of diet or lifestyle is it?

Imo the grandstanding and preaching by a small number of vegans in these threads is quite eye opening. I'm not really surprised therefore with much of the negative reception tbh.

I prefer my critters alive and happy! A turning point for me, apart from the cost of meat, was raising a pet lamb and keeping hens and all manner of other critters.

I now hate the thought f eating meat. Occasionally a little bacon and part of the chickens I buy for the cats and dog go to make stock, but red meat is out

It is as others say, personal choice.

Feeding your cats and dogs (and yourself) chicken is still contributing to the raising for slaughter of animals. Your occasional bacon is a by product of animal slaughter as well. Your post doesn't make much sense in that regard.

I was going to comment that at least the poster is not forcing her lifestyle diet choice on their pets. Over in the animal and pet forum the number of self declared vegans who post about doing so is quite astonishing.

Thanks for this sense. I never at any time by the way said I was a vegan etc. My serious illness means I have so many dietary restrictions that I cannot do that For many of us also it is a gradual process. Most food now has to be minced or pureed.

Cats are obligate carnivores. I would never restrict their diet for that reason. Dogs less so but still have needs.

Bless and thank you too for your kindness and courtesy and understanding on this '

And it can be very very hard for those who love and care for any animal to think of causing death to another living critter ; believe me on that

Did you get any thanks? I do not need "thanks" - do you? Why is that?

You'd really shouldn't take your own comments so seriously.

In fairness, the dietry requirements of cats and dogs are different to those of humans.

Part of the philosophy behind veganism is consent: the animal has not consented to giving it's body/milk/eggs for consumption. It would then be non-consentual to force this philosophy on another living animal that could not consent to the dietry change.

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

Ah thank you for that reply. Though I believe that death amongst animals is inevitable - whether it the cat that gets the mouse, the wolf that takes down caribou or in my case the chicken that ends up in the pot - after being properly dispatched and the meal appreciated for its full value and worth.

AH because it's where all the whingers post about vegans and other peopel hang out saying they're forcing their views on everyone.

That Boucher-Hayes thing was a bit of a joke. Poorly exectued, little to no research, ignoring facts in the end because he wants to eat meat guilt free - which is fine. He clearly had an agenda. It was laughable and if I was a vegan I'd be pretty pissed off.

There are some mental vegans floating around boards alright, I'll grant you that.

I just find the whole things bizarre, like who cares if they don't want to eat meat?

Now youve reduced yourself to using gramattical errors as some kind of distraction from your unfunniness.

Well if you take that goveganworld stuff they were to be fair.

Personally I found nothing wrong with the Philip Boucher-Hayes program whatsover especially considering - its not the kind of thing I usually watch.

I agree with you there t'is bizarre ...

    Thanks.

Agree totally. Many of us mourn the loss of a beloved pet as we would a child. My cats are hunters; as well when we have rats around. They share though; found a large dead rat at the door last week.

And yes, death is inevitable, but many of us try to limit it as much as we can without causing offence .

It is something I have thought about and thought through over several decades. Gradually lessening and replacing what I can for myself.

    Thank you again!

    Is that an invitation ;)

Part of the philosophy behind veganism is consent: the animal has not consented to giving it's body/milk/eggs for consumption. It would then be non-consentual to force this philosophy on another living animal that could not consent to the dietry change.

    Agreed on that...

Now we're getting to the root of it.

I feel animal rights activists are trying to push that philosophy on the rest of vegans. And by their logic they are against companion pets and good animal welfare

Just shocked a loved one on the phone by telling her that ordinary cheese is made with rennet that comes from a calf's stomach

She demanded proof; if you are squeamish do not read this.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rennet

when I was on the North Sea island I had a smallholding and made cheese so knew these things.

She like me is very limited food wise so...

I must check in the shops re the cost of vegan cheese also. I inevitably eat a lot of cheese.

As she said though, when I was talking to her re this thread, that by products are maybe less damaging and that stopping eating meat is not going to stop eg beef farming. She like me has rescue critters.

A fascinating thread with so many overtones.

I sometimes buy the excellent ready meals; the cats and dog always get the meat part .
