Binge listened to a podcast called Dirty John over the last couple of days. Really good....basically the story of a sociopath. Would recommend.

I'll add that to my list.

Just at the end of the first episode of Silk Road. Excellent so far.

I wasn't too keen on 'Someone Knows Something'. The first two episodes were a bit meh. And as I was reading down on the synopsis of other episodes, I read he goes and talks to 'psychics' who investigated the case. Instant pass.

Or is it worth sticking with?

Finished the Silk Road series at the weekend, utterly fascinating and brilliantly told.

I really didn't get the hype with SKS. Basically some dogs barked around the site and that was it!

Listened to part one of Silk Road yesterday, interesting. Getting very fed up of the ads that he reads out though

If you listen on Spotify you can skip forward easily enough.

What app do you use to listen? I use overcast and it gives you the option to skip forward x30secs

Overcast is excellent! I had to switch from the iOS Podcast app, as it got so unwieldy.

The ads are always annoying, but I like the podcasts like Casefile that stick them all together, so you can flick through them, and you might only have to listen to 20 seconds or so of ad.

I use the stock iPhone Podcast app and you can skip forward also (15 secs per press). The app itself is a bit crap though when it comes to navigation.

    Silk road was absolutely brilliant!

I'm on episdoe 2 of Dirty John. I'm liking it.

Started Southern Fried True Crime, she has a great accent, so far stories very well told. Reckon if you like Casefile you'll like them.

I just bought Pocket Casts on iOS. It's 4.49. It's excellent!

Really angry listening to the final part of the Jonestown podcast on Casefile. Shocking.

Also just want to second Southern Fried True Crime. I only listened one of the latest episodes - the babysitter murder. It was really good.

I have listened to some, I find a lot of them frustrating, I listened to the east coast serial rapist, about six hours long and they don't find the guy, but of a head melt as full of dates, then I listened to a shorter one, again they don't find the guy.

    Granted silk road was good,

I would like to give one more chance can anyone recommend one where they find the perpetrator?
    Thanks

    Sherri Rasmussen...
    Absolutely brilliant episode.

    Jennifer Pan.
    Another cracker.

Both will leave you gob smacked.

The Rasmussen episode is very good.

    The interrogation of
    Stephanie Lazarus
wasn't just audio recorded, it was video recorded and it's on youtube for anyone who wants to see it.

The robbers were inspired by 'Heat' (1995) apparently. The climactic scene in the movie is incredible.

Going to give that a listen a long with the few mentioned above.

Saw that before, and was amazed by it. She's absolutely mental!

    I love Casefile too.

However, if anyone can help me find another good podcast app, please spill.

The most recent IOS update fekked up the original Apple app, it is a total mess now. I don't know why they do that!

I know there are a few suggestions here, but I just want a list of podcasts I am subscribed to and a list of episodes, together with a timer to shut it off after an episode or an hour etc.

I am so annoyed with the Apple app. Grrrrrrrrrrrr.

True crime garage is pretty good. Their latest episode (a 2 parter) is particularly good.

You can use you alarm phone section to turn off after a specified time. Just pity it’s outside app.

What are the alternatives like for power consumption? The Apple podcast app is horrible since the update but it’s very easy on the battery in fairness.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 99 ✭✭Grateful Dread

I don't notice any difference in my battery with Pocket Casts to be honest, but that's not to say it mightn't use a tiny bit more...
