Joyce didn’t have the physicality or strength for the pro game.

The boy he took over was pretty good and was player of the year for his club albeit down the league's.

Bit like what DM said. Good enough to bring in bring the local guy aside and then gone again.

    Whose the player?

Rather not say now as it was a few years ago but the point is after years of grafting gets shunted out by someone who didn't stay. I suppose at least Joyce got tested at senior level.

    Probably right

Mole's point about lads playing well for u20 then disappearing from UR rang true with it though.

there has been very few ulster forwards, especially backrows, who have played well for Ireland u20 in the past 5 squads.

Adam McBurney has been the best ulster forward to play 20's since Henderson.

John Donnan and Alex Thompson were decent players at u20 level but neither looked like future stars.

Ulster & Ireland u20 forwards since Henderson:

Chris Taylor(Prop/7 u20 caps) - never offered academy place
Michael Lagan(Prop/4 u20 caps) - released from academy after 3 seasons.
Peter Cooper(Prop/5 u20 caps) - Ulster academy player

John Andrew(Hooker/4 u20 caps) - Ulster squad player
Zach McCall(Hooker/7 u20 caps) - Ulster academy player
    Adam McBurney(Hooker/11 u20 caps) - - Ulster academy player

    John Donnan(2nd Row/9 u20 caps) - released from academy after 3 seasons.
    Alex Thompson(2nd Row/ 9 u20 caps) - released from academy after 3 seasons.

Marcus Rea(Backrow/5 u20 caps) - Ulster academy player
    Conall Boomer(Backrow/ ? u20 caps) - released from academy after 1 season.

There's 6 ulster lads in the u20 team today. That's amazing. Very little involvement over the past few years and now more players in the starting line up than Leinster. A vintage year!

Its 7 and 2 on the bench.
Good to see but more importantly there's rep from youths rugby and smaller schools in province.

just realised with the new tv deal and our likelihood of being in challenge cup next year I won't see any televised Ulster games... joys of living on the bigger island!

U20s match: Curtis having a good game, Dalton & Dunleay looking keen!

OToole is mobile for a tight head

    Yawn...

Maybe Ulster are actually quite strong at this level this year. They did win their development games in Sept, just as they won the U18 Inter Pros. I believe they may even have beaten Leinster twice...?

Was tonight the best Ireland U20 performance of the season so far?

    Bilston

The u18 squad aren't featuring in u20 u19 yet. The games were v tight.

Didnt think the u19 beat Leinster twice but shows you what I know.

I don't think the U19s did beat Leinster twice. The U18s did.

Anyway the above was just a response (a tad drunken I might add) to Irishfan, who, while an otherwise excellent poster on age group rugby, often downplays Ulster's success at age grade level. It's just a bit of banter.

Anyway good to see the U20s won last night and by all accounts I've read Curtis put in another good showing at 12. He looks like a bit of a find. With Olding off the scene and Luke's inability to pass it would be good to have a footballing 12 as another option to compliment McCloskey's more direct approach.

If you needed any more proof that Logan is more of a businessman than a rugby man, he released a video saying he isn't going to resign on the Ulster Facebook page during the France-England match.

Does the timing of the video release mean anything?

It's up there for everyone to see from now on, it's not like he only did a TV interview which won't be seen again.

Loving his quote on academy players playing in u20 last night, quoting the ratio.... rotation.

Well structured video all the same, but can’t but hate his voice. If figures investment etc. Quite are correct you’d have to thank him also especially if 1 millions is invested in Academy up from 100k

When it comes to finance Logan has done well. Off the pitch Logan appears to me to have been a success.

However he and Ulster rugby have taken their eye of the ball on the pitch.

With SOB going off injured and Jamie retired, I have to say Jordi's performance today was the one down side to the win. He was absolutely brilliant off the bench and I hate that Leinster are losing him!

Don't worry, I'm sure after a few months in the nurturing environment of Ulster Rugby you'll hope he never comes back.

Eddie Jones new ulster DOR after the English media tear another English head coach apart? Hahaha, I would love that. England rugby has been a great supplier of Irish coaching talent at discount rates!

Bowe and Piutau are gone at the end of the season leaving

Gilroy, Stockdale, Lyttle, Ludik, and Nelson to cover 3 spots!

You defo need another player who can play in the back 3.
