In fairness, I just don't think it's worth the cost of production. It isn't as awesome as I want, and it's too formulaic, and on many occasions, downright boring.

If they sort themselves out on Season 3, maybe it'll get extended, it's not the end of the road yet, but it's also not worth 33mil a series.

I'm sure the format will live on, with the trio, perhaps not at 33mil a season and not on Amazon.
When the "no-compete" clause ends they will be back on UK TV imo

Streaming services are crap in Europe compared to the US and from what I hear Amazon is even worse in Ireland over the UK. A lot of their phyiscal products aren't sold/don't work over here so I believe it's very difficult to legally watch Grand Tour in 4K for example. Could be wrong, I was talking to someone who got a Fire TV or something from the UK, wouldn't work etc.

Might be a different story in the US where you hear of people paying $120 a month for lousy cable but I don't think people in Ireland want to pay for Netflix, Amazon, Now TV etc on top of music services.

I'd say Amazon underestimated how many people would just pirate it instead of signing up to Prime.

Yeah, Top Gear was one of the biggest shows on Pirate Bay so it's no surprise people aren't going to sign up to a subscription just to watch a show for 2-3 months. Anytime an episode came out it would be up there in download popularity with Game of Thrones. No point putting X money into making a show on a subscription platform that is only available to very limited countries.

Hell I even downloaded Top Gear and I had a Sky+ box, I just kept forgetting to set it to record or just ignored it due to having other shows to watch at the time.

If this is true then I'll be genuinely sad. I'd miss the trio a lot no matter if the move to Amazon was a good one or not.

I have amazon prime app on my TV and can watch in 4k.
I signed up just for the grand tour, if it's cancelled so will my subscription be.
The only other thing I watched on Amazon Prime was the series of Mr Bean :D

Just read that Amazon has earnt in excess of 100 million pounds in the 3 years they've had it.
It's one of their biggest earners so I'd be surprised if they gave up such an earner.

It's only been on 2 years and they spent 100M pounds on it, so how is that an earner?

    33 million a series.. So that's a profit.

If they spend 100M and make 100M they are just breaking even. No profit.

They've budgeted £100m for three series, and have made £100m on the two series to date.

So that's going to be a profit, no?

I think those are the figures being referenced anyway.

That may be true but they will make money from advertising and selling you other products....

I honestly think they don't care as Amazon is worth so much more.

The 100 million would be with 3 seasons, they made 100 million with 2.. and as pointed out there are many more streams of revenue coming from the show.. So yeah they are making a profit.
Re the response to the tweet, fantastic response from jezza

Has anyone started season 3? I'm catching up on season 2, I stopped watching just before Farmkhana and Jaaaggs. I'm on the episode with the Aston and Jaguar going around the banked circuit in Barcelona. Really good series, looking forward to the rest of the episodes. I hope season 3 is just as good.

Is there a way of buying the seasons cos I've not seen any of them? I presume DVD's are obsolete these days?

Have you tried signing up for a free 30-day trial of Amazon Prime? I signed up for the free trial last night, even though I got the free trial last year too.

Not worth it for season 3 anyway. Its crap.

I had the free trial earlier this month, and cancelled it after a week.
I thought primes selection of shows was poor.

There's other ways to watch TGT.

What didn't you like about season 3? I didn't like season 1 and didn't finish it but thought season 2 was a big improvement. I usually skip the celebrity guests but thought it's pretty good in season 2 along with the decent news and challenges.

Season 3 seems very forced to me, like they're straining for ideas. The episode they did where they did a segment on Jim Clark was the best one so far because you could see they were actually interested in it.

Yea to me they're kind of dialling it in, it's Top Gear by numbers - go on a colombia special, crash into eachother "accidentally", leave one behind, go over a wobbly bridge & end. It's just not as funny as it once was IMO. Dunno if maybe I'm just tired of it or is it actually worse now.

I think the fact that they actually look like old men now doesn't help the formula either. Hard to pull of Laddish behaviour when you have kids who are of a more appropriate age for hosting the show.

Not sure if it's me or the type of show that's growing old, it's still entertainment but I think it more has it's moments.

I have just watched tuck tuck thing on top gear and can't help think some of the imagery is better and script.

Possibly a case of some parts (valuable crew) was left behind at top gear and left both shows a little bit lacking.

I didn't think that episode was great, but I've always liked Chris Harris & surpised how much I like Matt Leblanc on it. From a car point of view Top gear is the better show, the grand tour has little to do with the cars themselves imo.

Not sure either are any different both shows in last week did m5 reports with different alternatives and both had same outcome of sorts and then did a trip of sorts that were not really car related. Both shows had time wasting sections with conversation/celebrity sections.

I don't really see any difference myself other than personalities. Both same for me.

They can get rid of the "token" black guy on top gear. I think he said 3 sentences on the show last night.
