Hmm lots of seagulls about today.

Strange match in a way, we won comfortably without really playing that well. We didn’t dominate possession like I would have expected and yet at the same time didn’t play badly either. It’s a testament to how far we have come, that we won by 20 points today. Strange that all the focus after Paris was our inability to score tries and now we have 9 in two games, not to mention the tries against Italy.

Seeing as I criticised him after the Wales game I must praise Rob Kearney today. He'd a fine game and didn't put a foot wrong. Would love to see him continue that form and roll back the years.

Was also impressed by Wayne Barnes. Refereed the game very well and showed great communication with the players.

Had England not won it already when we played them in Twickenham last year and they only awarded the trophy after our game?

Nope, get trophy after last game- England had 6N wrapped up before our game last year
This was in the Aviva last year after we beat them:

Brian O Driscoll said it on ITV that actually if this group pull off the Grand Slam, it would be better than 2009 because in 09 we did it with France and England at home.

England will have a huge performance at Twickenham next week - simply to deny Ireland the Grand Slam. If England don't get the try bonus in France, then it's Ireland's championship, but these players will want the Slam. England only have two 6N Grand Slams and Ireland stopped one of them last year, so they will be hugely motivated by that - it will be the 8th opportunity that Ireland have to complete the slam.

Interesting stat! Silly question, but is that in terms of going into final game having won all their other games presumably?

That's what the Grand Slam is - winning all your games.

Great to see us givin 'em the old Ringrose-Aki loop for Stockers's second. Much like the alley behind the Wezz - great to score without a Johnny in sight.

Yup i know, just hadn't seen that stat before so was curious! Didn't realise it was that many. That just over the course of 6N? Or 5N too? GS in 2009, Championships in 14, 15 and 18. Know there was a couple of times we lost out on pds too..

Didn't play exceptionally well in last two games but still won, it's exactly what's needed.

Kearney was very good, and I'd be the sort to question him (age just really catching up, it happens). That take after a poor Sexton kick was perfect.

Fully deserve a shot at the slam, most consistent team so hopefully take it to the next level.

Ireland have won two grand slams in the history of the 5/6nations 2009 and 1948 iirc

And in terms of the RK bashing, if we win next week and he plays, he and Rory Best will be the only irish players to have won two slams

    More Stockdale Stats:
    - He is the first player to score 5 tries in the championship since Tommy Bowe in 2012.

    - Another try and he equals the championship record record of 6 tries. Those on 6 tries are:
    Chris Ashton 2011
    Shane Williams 2008
    Will Greenwood 2001

Jesus, when I posted this in the second half I hadn't realised that Stockdale had six tries and had equalled the Six Nations season try scoring record.

The overall 5/6 Nations record is 8 tries.

I don't get it. Is the record 6 or 8?

6 is the record for the competition for the championship in it's modern 6-team incarnation, since 2000.

8 is the record if you include the 5 Nations/home nations, stretching back to 1883.

I presume they mean the Six Nations record is 6 tries, but if you include the Five Nations it's 8.

What do these two results do to the rankings? Do Ireland now move above England, or do we still need to beat them to get to 2nd?

sitting here having a beer and all i can think of is...

Carlsberg don't make try scoring machines....
    but if they did......

Well done Joe and team - we are lucky to have one of the greatest, if not greatest coaches in Ireland - despite some of the hate slung at him recently.
Thought Ringrose was immense , my MOTM - great to see Jordi back too - Cronin another unsung hero.

Stockdale is only 22 in April? Dunno why but thought he was a couple of years older.. Has some career ahead of him! :)

Just looking at Ireland's top try scorers. Trimble in 9th place has 17 tries from 70 appearances. 10 tries from 8 games is crazy. Would imagine Stockdale is the player to get a brace on 4 occasions in quickest amount of time?

I hope he gets a bagfull. Its a few years away yet, but I hope also he has the perspective and respect, as batsmen do for Bradman's test average for example, that beating the Drickmeister General's try mark would simply be inappropriate.

True. Nothing get the English dander up like putting one over on the Irish. 800 years of hurt that we gave them as the naughty child of the British Isles. Depriving us of a GS will have them give absolutely everything in their power.

What have we told you about binge reading too much Paul Howard? Do we need another intervention?
