It's the VAG group, Skoda, Seat, VW, Audi, Porsche, Bugatti and a few I might have forgot.

VWs seem to also work out among the best for buying new cars on PCP, so the emissions scandal didn't affect them too much here.

Let me get this straight.... A car firm founded by Hitler decided it was good PR to test gas emissions on people.
    K, fair enough.

I'd really appreciate some advice. My car, a 1.6 diesel golf went in for the emissions fix just under 8 weeks ago. Since then it just hasn't been the same. It sounded different especially in 1 and 2nd gear, the fan was staying on after I had turned the engine (it's never done that before) there was a slight burning smell. The amber coil light came on and said engine fault. I brought it to my mechanic he said it was something to do with gases not getting into the engine, presume this is the EGR value. It then broke down on Sunday, had a complete loss of power and had to get a tow truck out, he said he thought it was the dpf filter but didn't have his diagnostics machine to be sure. I have now had it towed to the garage that carried out the emissions fix and they are telling me it's the alternator and that i need a new battery. They are trying to charge me €1200. I mentioned that I have seen online that similar things have happened over people's cars and that it's related to the emissions fix. What are your opinions? Does it sound like it's related to the emissions fix? Apologies for the long post!

Ok so I decided not to pay the VW garage the 1200 because I didn't trust what they were saying. Paid to get my car down to my own mechanic and the alternator the tensioner and the battery are all fine! To say I'm livid with VW is an understatement. I would have paid them 1200 for nothing! And still have a fault with my car.

So what was wrong with the car?

My mechanic says the egr valve. There is a bearing gone in my air conditioning which is probably the noise they presumed was coming from my alternator.

Egr valve is a know problem after the VW update hence why they are replacing them for free If I was you Id be getting back onto them and running a muck! looking for compo else Id be going to a solicitor!

EGR should be covered under the 2yr warranty on all updated cars.
Go to the main dealer and ask them what the procedure is to get it replaced.
    Injectors are covered as well.

Well, if you know the VW origins you will not be too surprised about that :) Old habits and all...

I've recently imported a 131 CC TDI. Is there any accurate way to see if the emissions fix has been carried out? This site (http://www.volkswagen.co.uk/owners/emissionsinfo) seems to lead me in circles.

Porsche has stopped selling diesel-engined models across Europe.

Not all of a sudden to be fair. They can use hybrids instead of diesels to skew the collective emissions figures. They dropped all but one model last summer

My car has been done according to that. Unless the Indy did it, because it hasn't been near a main dealer. In fact I had another letter this month. It's not done.

Id love to know what Benz/BMW did. There is no way VW was alone in this.

And no doubt it isn't exclusive to German manufacturers either.

We all know that mpg testing has been a farce for decades, so even if other brands didn't go as far as VW on the emissions test defeat software, you can be pretty sure that "real world" NOx figures aren't really very close to what they all claim.

Apologies if this q has already been answered but I haven't time to read all the thread.

Has anyone affected been successful in getting the garage to reverse the "fix" ?

From what I recall in earlier pages, VW won't reverse the fix. But I think some owners have got it done by independent garages, but it's not that trivial and it costs money. So it's necessary to find someone who knows properly what to do.

Tested on humans too, they just can't get away from the old 卐
The Süddeutscher and Stuttgarter Zeitung both reported on Monday that a research group funded by the auto industry giants tested the effects of gas nitrogen dioxide — a component of car exhaust — on "[25] healthy young persons."

With humans they were volunteers. I bet monkeys did not opt in...

They've gone the other way, here. Now that the fix has been approved, they're dragging the diesels out of storage and putting them on the market.

Further, because of the reduced supply, the demand is such that you might find yourself paying more for a used TDi than the things cost when new.

Because ultimately a TDI engined car is a pretty economical mode of transport and if they are no longer sold then your options are limited.

So the egr in my 12 Passat went the other day and the car is in intermittent limp mode. Never got the update done for the emissions fix. If I were to get it done now would they replace the egr for me as a goodwill gesture?

What I'd tend to do would be, get the egr fault reset before bringing it in for the emission fix. If it stays off long enough to get it to the dealer for the fix you should be ok.
Doubt they'll do a goodwill gesture with the car being a 2012

I can get the fault turned off before bringing it in. My indy will replace with a 2nd hand egr for €400. Just wondering if I'm better keeping away from the emissions fix altogether and just getting it replaced?

If you get the emission fix done you'll have 2 years warranty on all emission components including egr dpf etc. Something to weigh up..

Toyota to stop selling diesel passenger cars across Europe at the end of the year...
Toyota is to end production of diesel versions of its passenger cars sold this year. In one of the most significant moves since the diesel emissions scandal broke in September 2015, the Japanese brand says it is abandoning diesel sales in Europe from the end of this year to focus its attention on petrol-electric hybrid versions.

As long as you’re not planning on keeping it beyond 2 years!
