    Brilliant Whelan.
Just some poor fella who hasn't seen the weather on RTE, over the last few years, I suspect.

Fairly windy in Kilbeggan now. Ice rain or something like that falling too, and the wind blowing the lose snow around. Not too bad yet

Lucky here so far it seems. Praying it won’t come too bad.

The heaviest snow is in west cork atm.
A lot more just starting to come into Wexford and Waterford and the east coast.

Been snowing steady here all evening. The snow is level with the step at the door.
Looks like I made the right decision to bring the shovel in. :o

Went out to check on the cows, nothing calving tonight thankfully. Must be a foot of snow in most of the yard, I couldn't recognise parts of it. Cows are shielding the calves in one pen which is good.

Insane snow here the past few hours ,drifted 3 or 4 feet in places
You wouldn’t see your hand in it and there’s another 18 to 30 hours of this in Wicklow
I dread to think what Ill see in the morning
Wind is gusting near 60kmh and the snow is spinning up in the air
It’s like the farm has transferred to North Dakota or somewhere

Lightning forecast in this so power might go,it’s gone up in Wicklow town apparently

Stay safe all, keep your phones charged and even if you are on your own ring someone and tell them if you’re going out

Had five cows calved between 4 and 8 o clock today,3 calved yesterday afternoon, nothing for a week before that. All up and sucking. Will leave them with the cows till things improve. They can shelter behind their mothers. The snow is like glitter blowing in through the ridge vent in the shed covering everything.Drifting, but very little snow falling.-1° now.

Just went out myself to check on stock.

I can safely say I've never witnessed weather like this in my lifetime.
The snow is blowing off the shed roofs and blowing and drifting in the yards.
There's no stickability in this snow. It just blows around like dead leaves off a tree.
The roads will definitely be impassable unless they're ploughed. Even then by morning it looks like the road and ditches will be level with snow in places. Unbelievable stuff.

Light dusting of snow here atm. About an inch max. Could be different by morning though.

Power out for an hour I'd say here. From looking out 6inches to a foot of snow, impossible to tell though, but yep once in a lifetime conditions probably (hopefully!)

14 hrs of something like sleet at this stage. Drifts 3 ft high on lawn. Still have enough water to function reasonably. Roads not good. Have enough storage to get us to tomorrow morning but in trouble for morning milking tomorrow.

French forecast model reckons that the heaviest snowfall is only starting to hit southern and eastern Ireland now. Hope they’re wrong.
Stay safe and use the head..

-2 here and windy, forecast says -9 with windchill.
We had some snow overnight but not lots, wind has been piling up what is there into slightly deeper drifts with the deepest being probably 40cm deep.

Same as that here. Won't be able to milk tomorrow morning, wouldn't be able wash tank today anyway

Doesn't seem to be any extra snow here but drifts are higher than yesterday. With a lot of the ground now with no snow

I'd say that might be fairly accurate Dawg. We didn't get much over night apart from wind. 3ft drifts around sheds, back of the parlour is full of snow and cows all huddled into corners of the sheds

Nearly a foot of snow just after sliding of roof of house. Be careful of kids playing close to house

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,257 ✭✭✭Who2

Drifts to around 3-4 ft in places but in general it’s not bad. I was at the farm earlier and snow had blown right in to the back walls. All I met on the roads were a couple of farmers with old cruisers and hilux’s. Would it be crazy to start clearing drifts out on the main roads or am I leaving myself open for a court case. If
