whose going to the sally gap saturday?

just so we can tell the search parties not to bother their time.

Those who are complaining that the forecast is wrong. Round them up and send they over The Gap in a Nissan Micra.

All joking aside the man looked tired and under pressure. He seemed to wince when he mentioned snow on friday night.

Gerry (who has a reputation as the forecaster who is scared of snow) predicting

    widespread significant snow
    Leinster + Munster 15 to 30cm generally
Dublin & Wicklow up to 100cm (yes 100)

The snow here in south Dublin is weird, it looks pretty heavy but it's so fine and doesn't appear to be making much difference to snow levels on the ground.

I assume this is only the beginning and we'll get "real" snow sometime during the night?

I thought that until I went in the back garden (the waste pipe from the washing machine is either blocked or frozen).
LOTS of snow building up out there.

Gerry Murphy clearly being used as an Impact Sub, coming in at the business end of this game.

it was all supposed to kick-off at 4pm, looking like it will be 10pm before the main event starts, that's quite poor forecasting from the weather authorities.

Met Eireann explained that it was a complex system and hard to predict. Imagine what would have happened if they called an alert for 10pm and it hit at 4. At least they got people off the roads before dark.

Anyone else in Kilkenny or surrounding counties? What's it like? Just light drizzly "snow" here for hours!

Hows it looking for everyone else in North Dublin?

I thought the blizzards would be more dense. I've experienced one in my life and visibility was very low.

Yeh. Looking up at the lamppost it looks like a major major storm. Then there’s nothing much sticking. A few hours of this and I’ll get a cm.

UKMO 24-hr forecast for 12Z tomorrow, showing a warm sector into the southeast. Hmm.

Still snow grains in West Clare, visibility dropping however and it's accumulating very well, drifting like mad up against walls and at sides of roads, covering some kerbs.

    More to come!
Ah, you're the man I wanted to hear from. If West Clare is getting it then a lot of areas should be plastered.

Freezing mist blowing at high speeds in Bray, seems to be sticking, roads are buried, no footprints or tracks anywhere.

Meath Road.....is dusted after 2 hours of this. Your road is 'buried'???

I can't see my corner of Bray near the seafront having anywhere near 10cm after 24 hours of this ice pellet sh*te nevermind the feet or metres talked about be Met Eireann.

RTE keep saying Wicklow and Dublin will get the most snow but every single chart I've seen has Carlow/Kilkenny/Wexford being dumped more so than Dublin.

You'd imagine if it's blowing in off the Irish sea. Also Waterford appears to be starting now.

Strong enough winds by the Point here in Dublin but no snow, just some dust floating about. Not a whole lot on the ground. Went out for a walk there and, while windy, nothing crazy.

This is exactly how 1982 was. Fell like this for hours. There won't be any accumulation on roof tops as the wind will blow it away. It will drift up against walls. Then you'll probably get the heavier stuff falling later in the morning.

Will be some mad drifts if the keeps blowing.

I still can't believe it's true, but if it is, this will possibly top the greatest snow falls ever officially recorded in Ireland. They have a sense of humour in Met Eireann sending Gerry out to deliver the good news. But more seriously i would not fancy being in the public eye in these situations.

Fine blowing snow here in Waterford City. Temp on the rise to -0.4c.
What a day of snow though already. Non stop from 6am to 4pm. Memorable and we haven't even had the heavy stuff from Emma yet.
