I've experienced a white-out once, during the big snow storm in the US in February 2006. It was short but so scary and confusing.

I've never seen this much snow in my area of Cork before. Though it's only about an inch of snow lying, we rarely get any snow sticking here. It's still snowing here are the moment so can't wait to see what I wake up to in the morning. Can't believe the worst is yet to come

Hang on, the Dublin Media do not decide what the warning levels are. Met Eireann decide that.

I get that but if Dun Laoighire or Howth had the sort of conditions we had today dont you think it would have been the main news headline on RTE? I said rant over cos I think this 'Dublin Media' stuff is generally overstated but not always...

Anything for south dublin yet? only had 1 good blizzard looking cenario so far.. now its all just patchy cloud...

Has been a disaster day. Nothing fresh since last night.

Will there be No more snow in South dub before main event tomorrow ?

Now I was brought up in old money and could identify an inch depth in my head, cms not so good! Not good for estimating the snowfalls is it, ha ha.

But anyway for other neanderthals like myself I looked it up and it seems that roughly 2.5cms = an inch. Whew, should have looked that up ages ago. Long gone from school and metric is something I never got the hang of, and really I'm not THAT old either!

The streamer action from the east cork coastline westwards is incredible. Is in red zone now territory. A quick thaw would be a great concern for the city

Just watching the 9 news here, and I have to say the panic they are promoting is incredible. 'Stay indoors from 4pm tomorrow'. 'Dangerous blizzard' etc. Have we moved to North Korea?

I have a feeling weather events have become 'cheap television' for RTE. In the same league as Operation Transformation, Dancing With The Stars, Big Week On The Farm etc etc. Easy cheap, fill in.

Forgive my ignorance, but what are “streamers”?

Is this science based or wishful thinking? Don't get me wrong, I'm on board either way! Just don't want to get myself too excited for nothing!

And who knows where that business is now, or how you'll end up finding out the answer!

My house is on a corner leading into my estate. Lost count the number of tools who’ve nearly spun, hit another car or come through my front garden because they’re going to fast around the corner. What is it with people and these conditions in cars? They think they’re some sort of magic vehicles.

The amount of 171 & 181 suv's that overtook me today in Cork was ridiculous, they think they're invincible in snow and ice

Showers that whip up over lakes/seas. Google lake effect snow.
