Cause if public transport running its very hard tell your employer you won’t be in!

There's a red alert, which means stay indoors. That's what you tell your employer

Google smart speaker says M50 is heavy. AA says it's moving well. RTE says exits and slipways might be tricky.

AA also don't say anything about a red warning either! Id assume it's not been updated.

Some people's jobs can't just shut down because there's snow.

For emergency front line staff that's true. Everyone else, no. Safety is more important.

My understanding is they have to if there is a red alert. I know the after school that we use for my son sent out a message yesterday saying they would close if there was a Red Alert issued.

Lads, it’s very easy to say “don’t bother going to work” etc, but with a YELLOW warning unbelievably still in place in some counties, it’s not particularly easy to avoid going in with the alternative probably being no wages for today, Thursday and Friday which is not feasible for the many people who are living week-to-week.

The majority of people are, unfortunately, going to have to make some sort of attempt to get in this morning, as ridiculous and all as it is.

Depends on the school. All staff just got a text that we are closed today. (West Dublin area) As it is a school management call, rather than an instruction from the minister of education I guess we'll make the day up at Easter.

I think I'm gonna wait till my usual departure time (about 8.30) and decide then. Hopefully there'll be updates from the office in the meantime.

It's not so much getting in I'm worried about (motorway pretty much all the way), it's the trek through 2 counties to get there and then home later.

    Dublin9 - white out with about 7 to 8 cm. there isn’t a sound.

Buses are running but roads are dangerous on mobhi rd

Saw a lad get bogged in a bmw earlier. Jumped on the brakes coming up to traffic lights and he slid into a pile of snow and got stuck. Rear wheel drive is useless in this weather. Gears to slow down people!!

Roads around Thurlrs are lethal, compacted snow. M8 to Urlingfofd also surprisingly bad.

You don't automatically come in at Easter. There is a very detailed circular on this for example:
Time should be regained from extra curricular e.g. trips off site, school tours etc
Then look to see if test periods can be shortened e.g. summer exams shortened

The M7 was the same last night around Portlaoise which caused traffic to drop to 50 a few km out. Was very surprised to be honest as a main route

Wish work and creche would notify us. School was on the ball thankfully and they are closed due to red warning (dublin). If work is open I'll be expected in but don't know if creche is open and would rather not risk it tbh but I have nobody to mind kids if I'm expected into work. So stressful! Would love a closure text so we can all go out the back and build a snowman!

If your worried about driving with your kids in the car don't go, it's now worth it, it's a red warning. If you do go please be safe.

How do workplaces notify people that it will be closed?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,301 ✭✭✭John Hutton

Status red issued! Work have not yet messaged people not to go in, but there's not a chance I am

Anyone in or going to Dublin, recommend you stick on 103.2 on the radio for ongoing traffic conditions every few minutes.

Luas and Dublin bus running limited services on routes. Red line being assessed per rte, green line not running between brides Glen and Sandyford per the radio

    Schools closed she said too

    By text I guess.

Dublin Bus are already operating a substantially reduced service.

    Weather Disruption Limited Service

It's a tricky one to call, I can make it into work but there's a good chance buses could be further curtailed this evening if the weather deteriorates further.

UCD closed today and tomorrow but no word from DCU.

    AA roadwatch site not connecting.

Stick on 103.2 on the radio/TuneIn/DublinCityfm site

Main problem so far seems to be getting up hills - including delays from the N3-M50S
