Technically a red warning in and itself does not close schools the individuals BOM or the minister does but I can’t see any school opening in the face of that forecast

Well red weather warning means no bus eireann school buses will run.. So no school for my lad here. Even though still very little snowfall here

I got a letter home from school telling us that the school buses would not run if a Red Alert was issued

At least they are issuing the warning in good time to save people from the morning commute

Dublin Bus have posted a limit service update. Hardly any use for routes to be going halfway and whatnot.

Irish Rail and Dublin Bus say they're operating, seems irresponsible tbh considering they'll end up pulling services and leaving people stranded

Where you going to. Unless you are saving lives. Stay home.

I agree some people will proceed to drive in this even though it could cause an accident.

Concerned now as my wife has to make a commute on hilly backroads with our two young kids. Hoping Carlow is added to the RED warning before people are forced to commute. We are passed criteria for RED.

    Update: Thankfully schools closed.

Drove from Rathfarnham, D14 at 05:30 to ParkWest, D12. 10cm of snow on side roads.

Main roads passable but very dangerous. The expected morning traffic will probably help to clear those roads but, with temps at at -2.5 (as it was a short time ago), there's a significant ice risk.

The M50 was better but still very dangerous. It wasn't helped by idiots driving too close behind me or 4x4's having fun by ploughing through deeper snow.

It had just started to snow again as I reached the office about 15 minutes ago so things are likely to get worse.

I kind of have to be in the office today otherwise I wouldn't have bothered. If you can, stay home!

No LUAS are running as of yet; no update from them however.

Technically a red alert does not mean schools automatically close. Unless the minister closes them, it is up to the individual boards of management

Why are people trying to go to work during a red warning unless absolutely essential?

Cause if public transport running its very hard tell your employer you won’t be in!

Some people's jobs can't just shut down because there's snow.

Issue needs to come out asap.
Some of us are getting up and ready now.
National emergency board etc... Probably all still asleep!
    Typical Ireland.

I'm a staff member and we still haven't been contacted. Its ridiculous, some of us will need to be on the road shortly to get to work and no official word

This came up last time there was a red warning.. Not every employer will accept the advice of the weathermen and may expect people to come in anyway - "the buses/luas are running aren't they?" etc

In my own case I'd be quite happy to stay in bed here but it's month end today and there will be an expectation that people try to get to work. I can actually do my own job quite happily from here but I manage an IT team and I know there'll be expectations from the business that we're available especially given the day that's in it.

Google smart speaker says M50 is heavy. AA says it's moving well. RTE says exits and slipways might be tricky.
