I'm in my late 30s and I started invisalign in late 2015 and have finished this week and received my retainer. It was a long journey but worth it.

I had some gaps in my bottom front teeth and some gaps appearing my front due to my tongue always pressing against my teeth and I was afraid of losing my teeth.

I got the invisalign and nearly quit them the first day (lol) as taking them off for lunch was agony. By that night the crazy pain subsided and I was grand, a little sore here and there when you'd get a new set of trays but you get used to it.

I was in and out a good bit to the Ortho getting attachments, elastics etc. I would definitely recommend using an Ortho who is local to you so you can pop in if you need anything or are worried.

How much did the treatment cost you?

Im about to pay 5k. I really didnt know what to make of the whole thing.
My own dentist seemed very lax about the whole thing 'we'll stick on braces or invisalign for about 6 months you be grand', so i figured an ortho was the way to go. The way i looked at it, dentists dont put on braces day in day out, its not their specialty. I guess for the majority of the day they are giving fillings and crowns?!
Anyway, so i scratched my own dentist off the list.
I rang places (granted i didnt go) and got quotes from anywhere 3/4k. I even spoke to someone who went to a place and her's were 3k, but when i looked it up, it still wasnt an orthodontist and most places i looked were not(dont think im allowed name).
Basically, i dont know if im being ripped off or not, but its a very well known practice, and basically at the end of it he has said ill have the 'perfect smile', the retainers and teeth whitening at the end are included, and 5k is the price for everything, no matter if it ends up taking longer than he told me (18 months). When i went for the consultation, i felt he knew his stuff, i trusted what he said, he went through the other options too and I made the decision to pay more for the qualification and knowledge being offered by an ortho.

So i am also interested to hear what people paid, just to compare

think it was approx 3400 - 1000 upfront and then monthly payments after that.

Just to add .. it was very handy booking an appointment at 08:30 and then going on to work also.. most times i made it into work for 9am other than that the latest into work was about 9:20... very professional and quick service.

So after many years of contemplating I think I am finally going to bite the bullet and get my teeth straightened. I have done a lot of research on the various type of treatments, pros and cons, cost, braces or invisalign etc and this thread has been a huge help.
So I decided I would go to a reputable orthodontist with good reviews instead of a dentist which might be cheaper. Had a consultation which cost 100 euro. Now this orthodondist offered all types of treatments, the different types of braces and invisalyn etc. I made sure of this because my fear was if I went to someone that offered only the 1 treatment then they obviously would say that was the treatment that suited me. So after my consultation I questioned everything (thanks too all the info gleaned from this thread) and basically he recommended that I could either go for braces or invisalyn as I was a bit conscious at my age and job of wearing train tracks I would be leaning more towards invisalyn. Now I have seen some negative comments about invisalyn on this thread and elsewhere about invisalyn so I specifically questioned him on this and he told me that at first invisalyn just used the alligners and this did not work as well as normal braces but they have since changed it slightly that the little attachments are now stuck to your teeth beforehand and this has made a big difference and that because of this they are every bit as good as normal braces and he would not recommend one over the other.
The price was 4100 euro for braces top and bottom with the clear brace just for the front top teeth or 4600 for the invisalyn top and bottom now I now I could probably get the invisalyn for around 32oo in a dental practice that ihas a special offer but I am leaning towards paying the extra money. Any thoughts/opinions/advice greatly appreciated

My Invisalign are ready for collection just got the call today. If you read my post above I was questioning me paying 5k for invalalign, but talking to someone on here through private message who is paying the 3200 they don’t get teeth whitening and retainers/permanent bar includes in their price, so would I be right in saying your quote with an ortho probably does include that? Mine did and that’s what I put the difference down to along with going to a qualified ortho which usually aim to give you the ‘perfect smile’. Don't think whitening is included but the retainer may be I will check everything in more detail before/if I sign up for the treatment for definite. I know he mentioned getting a crown and a chipped tooth fixed plus getting my teeth bleeched but don't think he was including this treatment in the price

Interesting thread, after a long time deliberating I am also going to get my teeth straightened, nothing too serious.

I am leaning toward invisalign simply because of the way the fixed braces look.

I have a consultation booked at the weekend with an orthodontist through clearbraces.ie promotional weekend.

I am looking to form a checklist to ensure nothing is left out with the promotional discount.

1. The invisalign
2. Retainer for wearing at night after treatment.
3. Permanent bar at back of teeth - is this required in all cases?

* Any extractions, fillings etc suggested prior to treatment is not included in the price quoted.

Please advise, I want to know I am making the right decision.

Just a quick question when you say you are having a consultant with an orthodontist through clear braces. Do they have orthodontists or dentists. I know the location they are near me is a dental practice which is what kind of put me off even though they were a lot cheaper

You should double check that you will be actually meeting with an orthodontist. I went to a clearbraces practice before and ended up with a sales guy who just went through the basic info with me. I wasnt impressed.

Thanks for pointing that out. Any questions I had over the phone about treatment I was told it is a case by case basis and the orthodontist carrying out the consultation, would answer my questions.

They are looking to get paid in full on the day so I do not want to be disappointed later on.

What did your invisalign package include?

Im paying 3300 for Invisalign treatment for both arches. 150 extra for both retainers. I chose not to go with the clearbraces clinic.

Did your orthodontist include a fixed bar post treatment with that price?

I have been quoted 3245 including retainers with an orthodontist in Clane.

Fixed bar can be used, yes. The dentist will generally order a set of retainers as well (Essix and/or Hawley), and will recommend you use them for six months along with the permanent retainer bar. It depends on how aggressive the treatment was.

yeah it was Hugh - 95% of the time who provided the treatment. one or two appointments were with someone else

I have been quoted 4.4k for damon braces from smiles clinic for roughly 18 - 24 months. I'm wondering what should be covered in this fees?

Its damon, both arches, fixed bar. There'e might be bonding being carried out as I've small teeth and a tongue which the open gaps/spaces in my teeth.

I was just wondering if anyone here has had experience with getting adult braces in Northern Ireland recently? I have to get a lot of ortho work done over the next 3 years and have been quoted prices of 3,500-4,000E. I am living in Drogheda so could easily travel over the border if it were much cheaper up there.
All advice greatly appreciated!

3500-4000 is cheap to be honest. you will likely be visiting 30 + times over 3 years so honestly keep in local because you cant transfer otho once you start

Yes, that is what you are paying for, a visit every 2-6 weeks for 2-3 years.
