Wrapping up the Vietnam war, his trip to China and the EPA being founded under his watch. Some of the positives. A lot more negatives...

In the fall of 1972 President Nixon announced that the rate of increase of inflation was decreasing. This was the first time a sitting president used the third derivative to advance his case for reelection.

He colluded with south Vietnam before his election to scupper peace talks and influence the voting.

Another great documentary from Ken Burns, both sides knew the war was absolute bollocks from the beginning but Nixon actions were lower again.

One of the best political quotes of all time is attributed to him; he told his handlers to spread a statement about an opponent around. When his handler pointed out that it was a lie he said:

"I know it's a lie, I just want to see the fcukers deny it."

Which is the better film, Frost/Nixon or Nixon/Elvis?

I didn't see the documentary mentioned. Can you explain the above briefly, please/ Thanks

I'm sure that was, most likely, a facetious remark

Correct me on this Nixons rival was all about stopping the war. Nixon got word out to the south to stop peace arrangements so that his rivals mantra was in tatters.

If people remember him at all.. it is some combination of...

Only Nixon could go to China...

    Tricky Dicky...

    Watergate...

    End game in Vietnam...

    Queuing for gasoline...

Calamitous TV debate v JFK in 1960.
Coming back from political death to victory in 1968 and then landslide in 1972.

Without Watergate and term limits he would have beaten Carter in a landslide in 1976...

That was Lyndon B Johnson who wanted to spread rumours of an opponent having relations with farmyard animals.

Both are enjoyable. But I thought Frost/Nixon was a brilliant film.

If I'm not mistaken he taped his own phone conversations.
He had a very big set of jowls.
He wrote ten best sellers - political stuff.
