It’s the under Gibbes bit that’s most interesting there. That would suggest Gibbes will still be there and in charge.

Like all true greats, Neil Best is talking about himself in the third person.

    Where is Harrison these days?

You'd think that Harrison and Gibbes would be pretty good at bringing a bit of nastiness to the pack.

Head honcho at Ulster or assistant with Australia?

My guess is Ulster would pay him more as head coach/DoR which may swing it for him. But he'd need to believe in 'the project'. I'm just not convinced we will have a squad of players to compete next year, but in theory we could be competitive next year if certain things go our way.

We've made two good signings in Moore and Murphy and I honestly think Dalton is going to develop into a serious operator for us. I imagine there is a big NIQ signing to be made as well, and if Gibbes is really lucky he could have a squad with Coetzee, Payne, Jackson and Olding. That's the best case scenario but the chances of all of that happening are pretty slim.

There is still the issue though, that by all accounts Gibbes doesn’t want to be a head coach yet. Mind you that could well just be rumour.

Yeah, I've read that. If that's the case then he won't stay. The choice between assistant at Ulster or assistant of Australia is fairly straightforward.

If Ulster can attract a decent DOR, he might stay. Depends on how he feels about Ulsters chances of improving under a new DOR are.

Wonder if Muller has finally decided to come back as fwds coach - there was rumours about that a long time ago.
Wonder if we could ever tempt Plumtree over!

Is two years standard for someone of his age and profile?
Would have liked an extra year on that....but positive news anyway.

If you were Stockdale, would you sign for 3 years?

I would say it's fairly standard yes, he'd probably want to renegotiate again in a couple of years because his value could conceivably skyrocket between now and then, especially if he's started at a world cup.

Was his contract even up at the end of this season? I don't recall his name ever being on a list of players we needed to re-sign.

    Great news anyway.

Two years is fine anyway as you'd think that by the time he is 23/24 (when this new contract ends) he'd be nailed on for a central contract so he'd probably get a big bump.

Googles Justin Harirson stuff about cocaine abuse comes up. Would have thought that drugs and potential illegality are the 2 things the IRFU would be running mile from at the moment. Muller would be brilliant v highly thought of. For me I think someone like Cheika and what he did with Leinster back in the day would be a great option. Take no rubbish and get back to basics.

    Cheika is busy

Yeah I'd be surprised if we made a move for Harrison. Maybe Neil Best meant #JM rather than #JH.

Muller makes a lot more sense from an Ulster POV.

Listening to an interview with Payne earlier and he talks about being almost ready to come back and then it's off again. This has been going on a hell of a long time....almost a full season out now. He says he's giving it another month to see how he is then. I'm guessing his career is finished?

I think for a lot of people there's a big difference between a recreational drugs issue and a performance enhancing one. I don't know much about Harrison otherwise tbh but it seems like he's put that in the past.

I see bakebook has some rumblings of Jim Hamilton saying it's him to some fans in Edinburgh

Others would say that's a common excuse that's trotted out when guys get caught.... "but I only did it this once".. " and only for a laugh"... rriiiggghhhttt.
My opinion is that's it's so well documented how easy it is to pass drug tests that anyone who's caught is either very unlucky or stupid.

To be honest, personally I wouldn't really care much about someone in charge at Ulster using certain drugs recreationally. Maybe we need a good infusion of 1980's Wall Street trader attitude...:pac:
