Please tell us what exactly is meant by 'church elders'?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,907 ✭✭✭✭MJohnston

I'm not sure, I haven't seen any mod stuff about that, I don't think bilston is saying anything particularly controversial tbh, there's no judgement one way or the other, he's just pointing out Cipriani's bad boy reputation probably wouldn't be something the bosses at Ulster would be keen on importing.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,140 ✭✭✭Digifriendly

Good explanation. Fair enough. Cipriani is too much of a loose cannon for me. Keep developing Johnny McPhillips would be my take on this.

Lay members who are active in their church activities and it's community. I'm sure many such people in every parish and faith in Ireland are genuine in their beliefs. Some sadly are just hypocrites using it as a means to an end and their own advantage. One or two have hitched their coat tails to Ulster Rugby. I wouldn't trust them to tie their shoes themselves. If I shook hands with them I'd count my fingers afterwards.

    Leave it out please.

    Mods already made this point.

Leave what out? I have no idea what you're talking about. The above was not made in reference to the trial in any way shape or form.

Digs at Christians in the Ulster set up. Or as the mods said previously "let's leave religion out of it".
    That's all.

It's hardly a dig, they certainly seem like they'd be the least likely group to want Cipriani around. Not that anyone really does.

I apologise if any offence was caused. That wasn't my intention.

Any word as to when Gibbes would leave if he takes up this post with Australia?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,007 ✭✭✭Scythica

    ASAP in his eyes probably.

From what I've heard he didn't want to be the top dog and perhaps had seen the writing on the wall. Poisoned chalice indeed.

Hopefully he doesn't however as him and Farrell after the 6n would be exactly what we've been asking for. No hiding place for the players

The thing is if there are structural problems that aren't going to be addressed, he can only see one future for himself at Ulster. And that's the same one that Les Kiss faced.

Exactly. Ulster have been struggling for years and their only solution seems to be to fire the coach. Why on earth would a talented coach want to put himself in that position?

    Ach, get God's sake lads.

He doesn't really want to be a head coach, and he's been offered a place in a national set-up.

I said at the time that if it was Rassie leaving Ulster instead of Munster, we'd be hysterically crying about what an awful indictment it was.

A DOR who was in over his head is gone. The international team's defence coach is coming down to shake the place up after the Six Nations. There's reviews and rumoured movement behind the scenes happening.

If Jonno wants to renege on his contract and bail, fine. I'll be very disappointed, but there you go. Our forwards haven't looked any better this season. Maybe he doesn't have the ability to achieve much without the numbers of Leinster or the money of Clermont. We don't have either.

Gibbes leaving might be a good thing in the long run, as it would make the board of Ulster look absolutely ridiculous. Maybe then we can get the change up top that we really need, but I doubt it.

This is me being optimistic about Ulster's future.

    Jayzus, Ulster just never learn!

    :pac:

Suppose the difference is that Farrell hasn't been dumped for someone better by the national team.

Piatau out for 'a number of weeks.'
    Lyttle out for 4-6 weeks.
    Reidy out for 6 weeks.

The good times just keep on coming.

Might be a good thing if Gibbes goes, so it’s not a new DOR with someone else’s choice of coaches. A clean sweep might work better.

Jebus....Lyttle is made of  polystyrene!  Every time he plays he looks like a fantastic prospect, then he usually hobbles off not to be seen for months...

He must have a crazy strike rate though. He seems to score in virtually every game he plays.

    At last some good news!

Gilroy and Timoney have signed new contracts. Gilroy until 2021. Not sure if it's 2 or 3 years for Timoney but good to keep them.

Was listening to OTB WNR last night and Stephen Ferris was particularly glum about the prospect of Jono Gibbes leaving. His point was that Gibbes had not made any denial of the rumour which would normally be expected if there was no truth in it or he intended to stay regardless.

Yeah, I read that on the UR website after posting on here. It feels like more. And he has probably come off the bench a few times. But still a try every other game is pretty good.
