I'm glad BB raises awareness of mental health and getting treatment. I take him seriously because he has been through CBT, studied paychology and talks about theories on mental health openly and regularly.

I can get over that he is paid to share his opinions or paid once he shares his opinions, because they seem to be affecting change and getting people who felt alone a feeling that they aren't.

If you can't get over him being paid, that's fine, but I don't believe it's a reason not to take him seriously.

Anyway I'll pop out of this now as I'm sure I'm just clogging up the thread with the same stuff over and over.

Why do all internet debates now resort to a trading of these new buzzwords insults!? It's so predictable and monotonous to read.

Mental health is probably less than 10% of what he discusses on his podcasts anyway so people need to stop putting him in this pigeon hole and judging his wholeness on his thoughts on one issue. He covers a diverse range of topics and music would probably be the most prevalent.

    Oops, find it offensive snowflake?

Not in the least. Even though I'm a radical lefty, you'll have to try very hard to offend me.

    Care the answer the question?

It's a feminist, cultural marxist slogan word.

    It really isn't.

People on this thread would likely call it cultural Marxist music... :p

Well then we have a crossed line.

That is the post I was talking about, and is the post where the guy talks about "shyte days" which is what I quoted and said I was quoting "Days being shyte does not equal depressed.".

"Your podcast helped keep me going when my days were very shyte"

And just to clarify, he's referring to my post. While it wasn't as a direct result that I went back to counselling, it did make me far more open to going back to it. I've also in general, always found it beneficial to read or listen to people who have dealt with similar issues to me. I felt alone for a very long time and was a nervous wreck for months, anyone close to me couldn't understand it.

You've also expressed since a person doesn't seem to be obviously depressed, they probably aren't. You're on a message board, you don't know to what extent what very shyte days mean, it could be a passing remark to something pretty serious. The vast majority of people in my life have no idea how bad the time was for me, work colleagues who saw me every day would say that I'm extraordinarily upbeat. I mask it.

    It really is.

Patriarchy's meaning as we know it now dates back to 1630. Can't really blame cultural Marxist feminists or the borg for it...

His podcast is great, really refreshing. And his short stories are really well written and very interesting.

Just give him a listen and see what you think before lambasting him for wearing a plastic bag.

Latest podcast in Belfast is worth a listen. Obviously, as per his other podcasts, he spells out stuff that a lot of peopel already know, but I enjoyed the latest one.

blindboy is a fool - preachy b0llocks who thinks we should bow to the alter of identity politics and the rest.

He is pretty much a SJW in the vein of LON

You know what he thinks..that s some talent you got there you could do something constructive with that kind of superhero **** going on.

Are you of the belief that RTE do not pay him to be on the LLS, Tubridy radio show or Tommy Tiernan show????

You genuinely haven't a clue if you think appearing on an Irish TV show makes you money other than your expenses and a small appearance fee.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,049 ✭✭✭Dannyriver

He never mentioned feeling down at all in his tweet. Jesus, the Dave Chambers Fan Club really do only see what they want.

I notice no one has ever replied to my post questioning how he went from talking about his "anxiety and agoraphobia" in his early days talking about mental health, but now talks about his "deep dark depression". Much like Bressie, his former mental health issues seem to be getting worse and worse the further into the past they get.

Anxiety and agoraphobia are generally comorbid conditions...but **** it why believe me or Blindboy when you can doubt the serious people in the paper Ive linked below....

Ok. I’ll take the bait. How much would he be paid for an appearance?

Do you mean you were down, or depressed? Were you suffering from depression, or treated clinically for those things or you just went through a rough patch and came out the other side.

See there's a lot of different ways to look at it. I suffer anxiety (medically treated) and as a result of my anxiety suffered from agoraphobia, which is not a nice thing at all and as a result of agoraphobia suffered from depression. It's a bit of a vicious circle. I'm not male so the part of the discussion about how men could better help themselves isn't particularly relevant to me but yet I can understand it and relate to it despite that.
It just boggles my mind the level of denial that goes on when it comes to mental health and wellbeing. If I were to believe everything I read here, it only affects men and how mostly, it's probably because women are the cause of it and that seems to suit a certain sector of society and by all means if that's what makes you feel better go with it. It certainly shouldn't invalidate other peoples experiences at the same time.

Well said, I hope you re staying on top of it. :)

I was clinically depressed and treated for it. Attempted suicide numerous times. And now I am out the other side, bar a few minor slips.

Fair play best of luck with it , and your honesty is commendable :)

Just caught up on the thread there. Pter your contributions were a complete pleasure. Rational, empathic, and informed fair play not once did you stray from clear logical argument even when you knew the nay sayers knew absolutely nothing of Blindboy's work other than a few songs and an interview where he mentioned the dreaded 'feminism' word. You re a braver man than me, Id have been caught up in the nonsense. :)

Haven’t read the book yet. I would t be a *huge* fan but would stick on the podcasts from time to time.
I’ve gone to ground with the music and writing. Sorting a few things out between the ears but hope to get on track again!

Fair enough, Its a seriously good read if you like funny/dark/surreal fiction. Id challenge anyone who enjoys literature not to like it. Best of luck with your journey, don t give up on music/writing though remember the very act of creating is life-affirming and as a consequence liberating. :)

What did people think of the podcast in the sugar club this afternoon?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,496 ✭✭✭Will I Am Not

Not a fan of everything he says but I was enjoying his podcast up until the latest one. Such a load of self indulgent **** over him getting a DM off Conor McGregor.

Talked about how some journalists might write a click bait article on the back of that podcast, saying he doesn’t do click bait himself because he has integrity.
If he had integrity he wouldn’t be reading out private messages sent to him by McGregor on his own podcast. Came across a complete bellend in that episode with his big “come down and meet me for a chat” spiel towards Mcgregor.

If he doesn’t keep it in check then his ego is in danger of reaching a level seen in famous bores like Stephen Fry and Russell Brand.

    Yeah I thought that myself.

He knows there's a big story about McGregor threatening him, which is what it was no matter what he thinks, but doesn't want any stories about it. Just his
