Genuine question - were Forest Gump's exploits based on this fella?

Didn't see any co-relation between Forest and Desmond at any point in the film.

You don't? That's all I could think of when I heard Andrew Garfield's southern draaaaaawl.

Ok, i’ll give you that bit! It was about 5 minutes in Forest Gump while it was the backbone of the plot in Hacksaw Ridge.

    Doss’s actual page on wiki.

    https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Desmond_Doss

While serving with his platoon in 1944 on Guam and the Philippines, he was awarded two Bronze Star Medals with a "V" device,[12] for exceptional valor in aiding wounded soldiers under fire. During the Battle of Okinawa, he saved the lives of 50-75 wounded infantrymen atop the area known by the 96th Division as the Maeda Escarpment or Hacksaw Ridge.[13] Doss was wounded four times in Okinawa,[14] and was evacuated on May 21, 1945, aboard the USS Mercy.[15] Doss suffered a left arm fracture from a sniper's bullet and at one point had seventeen pieces of shrapnel embedded in his body.[15] He was awarded the Medal of Honor for his actions in Okinawa.

On how the movie didn’t show all the heroics because they seemed unbelievable (from the wiki about the movie.)

    https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hacksaw_Ridge

Other changes to the story occur near the end of the movie when Doss is placed on a stretcher. In real life, Doss had another wounded man take his place on the stretcher. After treating the soldier, a sniper shot fractured Doss' arm and he crawled to safety after being left alone for five hours.[48] Gibson omitted this from the film because he felt that the audience would not find the scene believable.[49]

Forest gump, however, was a fictional character.

The Conscientious Objector, a doc about Doss is well worth watching.

Just finished "Outsiders", series about a family that shun modern society and live on a hill and their clash with a mining company.

Thought it was very good but hated the way it ended, it was set up as a cliffhanger finale but the show was cancelled.

Same here, can't believe it's over.

Hacksaw Ridge, another brilliant movie from Mel Gibson about a conscientious objector in WW2. Gruesome war scenes but riveting from beginning to end. 9/10

I spent the whole filming wondering was the main character a bit simple or retarded in some way. It was a pretty forgettable film imo.

Soooo Cloverfield 3, how is it??? I'm a huge fan of the first 2 but won't get a chance to watch this until tomorrow.

I also loved the first 2 but this is fairly ****.

Dope is leaving on 4th Feb. Haven't gotten around to watching it myself yet. Has only been up 6 months. I'd been meaning to watch it anyway but the cinematography is by Rachel Morrison, who just became the first woman to be nominated for an Oscar in cinematography. Mudbound was so visually stunning I want to see all her work now.

Love and Mercy also leaving that day.
Started Dope this evening still there.

Watched It’s Kind of a Funny Story last night. A teenager gets himself checked in to a clinic to deal with his depression. Like a teenage One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest, very watchable. 7/10

    Thanks for the recommendation
    Really really enjoyed it
Hard to believe it was made in 2010!

Just finished The End of the F***ing World and am at a loss. Nearly didn't continue after the first two episodes but it got better and better.

I watched the whole thing the other day and felt pretty satisfied when it finished. I don't think it blew me away but it was very enjoyable and it wrapped up nicely. I don't think I'd like a second series.

Watched first 3 episodes of Altered Carbon. Now, I loved both Blade Runners and (both) Ghost in the Shell, bit this, ugh. No. It's bad. Looks good, but the story and acting is pretty terrible, which is a shame.

I’m almost finished the book and it’s really enjoyable and I’m wondering how without an almost infinite budget they’d be adapting it to tv.
Will watch the series once I’ve finished n see.

I’m 4 episodes in and have no desire to go back.

I actually like the characters but the show itself didn’t hook me. I’d have much preferred a one off 90 minutes film.

I was actually thinking while watching it that it probably would have made an excellent film. Although I'm not sure how much you could have really trimmed from it.
I did like it though and as I said, I watched it all in one go so it obviously did enough to hook me, I just wasn't blown away by it.

I've been watching Damnation all week and only just realised that the lead character is Tommy from Love/Hate!!

    Very good show.

The Cloverfield Paradox is absolute garbage. A complete waste of time.

Its very very very silly. Parts were funny though they probably weren't meant to be.

There is one scene straight out of Evil Dead 2.

It wasn't at all scary and lots of it makes absolutely no sense.

It's like they had 3 half finished ideas for movies and jammed them all together.
