Half way through Altered Carbon and its enjoyable enough. Silly **** and style over substance but not bad at all.

Not a new series but The Punisher was really good, possibly the best Marvel series on Netflix imo.

Oh well, give me an easy life and a peaceful death.

Watched Inside Man last night, which was added recently. Completely passed me by when it was released.

A decent bank robbery movie, worth a watch. It's funny though - it's a different take on a bank robbery while being quite predictable at the same time.

Would highly recommend this film, and I wouldn't be a big fan of the gangster genre. Mesmerising performance from John Connors.

    Good Time

Highly recommended crime caper clusterfvck! Pattison is very impressive. One of the better movies of the past 12 months for sure.

    Same. Stranger Things.

Edit: Actually, I watched 13 Reasons Why as well, so that's two I've watched.

The OH watches Suits, and had watched 13 Reasons Why, but I've only watched House of Cards & Stranger Things from that list.

And in both cases - NOT as binge watches. I can't think of a less enjoyable way to consume dramatic fiction than mainlining it in a short period of time.

The End of the F**king World is the only thing I've actually sat down and watched all in one go and that's because the episodes were so short it was basically like watching a long film.

I don't have the attention span for binge watching. Also if it's something I really enjoy I hate the idea of only having it new for one day a year. But each to their own.

Looking through that list it's interesting to note there's no Marvel shows on it.

The Cloverfield Paradox is absolute garbage. A complete waste of time.

Apparently the studio knew they had a turkey on their hands so just sold it to Netflix for 50M rather than release it in the cinema so they wouldn't lose any money on it.

Just watched a French film called Blockbuster.
Jeremy has been making little videos about his life for his dad who is bedridden with terminal cancer. Through these he meets Lola and they fall in love but when Lola sees a video from how they met she dumps Jeremy for lying to her and he's heartbroken. So Jeremy sets out to win her back by making little superhero videos with his friends and sending them to her.

They mention Michel Gondry a few times during the film and you can kind of see the influence but it's not "full on Gondry", there's just enough whimsy to be charming and I found the whole film rather delightful.

    It's brilliant so it is.

If you are struggling but still curious about it, give it til episode 3 where things start making sense.

Watch it in its original German too (with English subtitles); the dubbing is a mood killer.

Also recommended; it's a very good (Canadian) sci-fi show with an interesting premise. Season 1 is VERY light on 'plot', it's mostly laser focused on the main characters and their new lives, so if you're expecting action, twists and turns you might be disappointed. It's not that there isn't any, only that it's not the shows main thrust.

there is a thread discussing the show here: https://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2057684861

I caught Berlin Syndrome last night, which was for the most part a chilling surprise - given it's a thriller, it avoids a lot of the sorts of convention that drag such films down. Fair warning, the last 10 or 15 minutes do let it down a bit, but it's still well worth a watch - it's not often that such films have their focus on character as much as tension.

I live this show, it's one of the smartest sci-fi shows around and it doesn't get too bogged down in soapy-relationship stuff.

Speaking of travellers, watched Trespass against us recently. Fassbender and Brendan Gleeson star. Found it watchable.

I've been watching "Tiempos de guerra" or as it's been renamed in English, Morocco - Love in a Time of War, or something like that.

It's not going to be for everyone but I am loving it! It's very similar to another Spanish show, Grand Hotel, also on Netflix, in it's style. It's very soapy in it's story telling but the acting and budget are miles above soap standard. So much happens in every episode it's ridiculous. One character, after just 6 episodes, had been shot, rescued, operated on, recovered enough to attack a commander, was thrown in jail, was smuggled out, was caught, banged his head and lost his vision, was court martialed, sent to be executed, got a last second reprieve, went back to jail, was smuggled back to hospital, had an operation to restore his sight and was cleared of all previous charges against him!

Anyway, not for everyone, as I said, but great fun and if you like that kind of thing I highly recommend this one.

Anything similar to this or other documentary recommendations? I find I'm watching garbage and not properly using Netflix.
