Gonna take a gamble here Tony and say you’re going to love this and I’m going to hate it. There’s humble pie hats being eaten either way :)

Of all the things I have read about these films on Boards.ie, this takes the biscuit for the most preposterous! :pac:

My first impressions are... well, a little 'meh' if I'm honest. the trailer is certainly well crafted, nicely timed and synced.

As to the actual content, I suppose it's hard to tell beyond the inferred fact it's a heist film & may have fewer gags and lean more towards wry humour - which would be preferred for me anyway. Overall though it just didn't grab me or turn my head, really make me invest into seeing Han Solo's backstory.

Low expectations do often result in genuine enjoyment with the final product, so the proof of the pudding n' all that.

Really not feeling it.. It has all the elements but just kinda meh if I’m honest. The teaser was better.

I don't think the Kessel Run is going to be "a thing". I reckon it's nothing more than a well-known trade route that the Falcon was just able to do faster than any other ship, and become known for it.

That was always my impression of it.

That cloud tunnel thing the Falcon is passing through is most likely the Kessel Run itself... unless the trailer is misdirecting us on that on purpose. It may as well be the Kessel Run though if there's going to be a sequence such as that in, what I imagine is, the final escape set piece from the Empire. This kinda feels like an Ocean's 11 style heist movie and what's the bets part of the heist requires a sh*t hot pilot that can navigate one of the most treacherous runs in the galaxy to get away.

Was surprised not to see Phoebe Waller-Bridge anywhere in there... but looking it up there *reportedly* her character is CG-based which would explain her immediate absence. Ah, the 2010s.

Also: I really dig that soundtrack. Here’s hoping it’s representative of what’s in the film.

What about this chap?! I want to know his origin story. What's his deal? How does Lando get him? Come on, Disney! Give us the answers we seek or we Russia-Bot-Bomb your reviews on release! :pac:

    Do the Lobot
You should check out the 5-issue Lando comic. He’s cool in it and has a really tragic story.

Looks pretty good. Hopefully it's a bit more like Rogue One in tone.

Looking forward to seeing more of Lando.

I wonder if the soundtrack in the film will be in line with what we've seen in the trailer here? I hope so.

Would be nice if they don't have too many shout outs to old stuff and just let the story be it's own thing.

    Pretty exciting.

Is it possible that Lord & Miller wanted to make something a bit more focused on comedy and Disney wanted something a bit more like Rogue One?

Assuming that since they were let go due to creative differences and now with this trailer looking and feeling the way it does I wonder what really went on there.

Really liking the look of the extended trailer. Think I'll be avoiding everything else until it comes out in May.

There's a leaked Lego playset for a Kessel Run Millennium Falcon (with a white and blue) colour scheme, so I imagine it'll be part of a big action scene.

I wonder if the game Lando and Han play for the Falcon is a bet that Han won't make the Kessel Run in less than 12 parsecs...

In your defence, it is kinda funny how all the (new) Star Wars women are English brunettes, with very similar build & appearance. You'd think they'd at least try and swap up the leads for some variety. I mean they went and hired Lupita Nyong'o, only to get her to do some voicework as Maz, which seems like a waste.

He wins it with the gold dice apparently, which are also in this trailer in the speeder sequence if you look hard.

Looks like it could be an fun side story in the Star Wars universe. Han is an extremely difficult character to pull off though, very easy to make him smug and unlikable without a natural charisma. Let's hope yer man can pull it off.

Soundtrack is a highlight for sure.

Once again I think I'll leave to Redlettermedia to poke fun at how creatively bankrupt this looks.

Here's their spoof review of the trailer from a few days ago.....

And here's how they actually chose to review the trailer. You do have to watched the first 3 minutes if that first video to get both what they're doing and just how on the nose it was...

Honest question. Can you point me in the direction of any video of theirs where they actually like something? Be interesting to see what it was.

They often like the films they review on Half in the Bag. The Star Wars thing is a bit of a running joke – and I'm sure drives a majority of their traffic.

They both liked Blade Runner 2049: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O1Gqjjq1nic

Finding it really hard to care about this after the weak outings of Rogue One and TLJ

Whatever about TLJ (which I'm not getting into as it's an unwinnable arguement) there is no way Rogue One can be described as weak.

Do people forget that Star Wars films are about entertainment and not just satisfying fans' strict sense of Star Wars lore instilled as children that they feel must be adhered to as adults?

Film looks very interesting from this teaser.

RLM pointing out how marketing materials highlight familiar iconography for franchise movies seems kinda obvious, no? You could do a video like that for almost any sequel.

    Did I miss the point?

I thought Rouge One was pretty weak, the story was thin and the characters were abysmal and dull.

Regards this Solo trailer. Well, I'm hoping we get the thrilling, tense heist movie that rogue one wasn't, so that's a positive. On the negative, from this trailer at least, Alden Ehrenreich isn't Solo. With just a smile, Donald Glover is owning it as Lando, but I'm not getting an ounce of charisma off of Ehrenreich

I liked when they did it the first time. I cannot stand those nerd culture podcasts. It's a bit played out at this stage though.

On a positive note I quite liked the teaser. I am looking forward to the movie more than I had been.

The Upside down Train scene looks cool, very Indiana Jonesish, would like to hear the soundtrack piece that will accompany that scene, will probably be very 'Desert Chase' scene from Raiders. That snippet on the trailer reminds me of that level on the computer game 'Shadows of The Empire' on the auld N64 where you hunt down on of the bounty hunters on the moving train on some Junkyard planet.

    Loved that game!
