i accidentally misread the title as 'Another useless Thread Banging On About Sinn Fein Again?' I'm beginning to think that all these SF 'opponents' are actually huge fans of the party, trying their damned hardest to keep people talking about them.

Have you ever seen a car clamped in NYC? In my 7 years of living there I haven't either.
Now one would imagine that a place like New York City, where parking, and the rules pertaining thereto would be the optimum environment for locking someone's car until they stumped up the cash, no?

I have only ever seen cars towed and that after HOURS of being parked in an area where they are interfering with traffic/commerce.

I never saw a car clamped in Ireland. Does that mean it does not exist?

I think you are just making stuff up now.

In the United States, the device became known as a "Denver boot" after the city of Denver, Colorado, which was the first place in the country to employ them, mostly to force the payment of outstanding parking tickets

Is it new then? And is it now a countrywide or at least citywide phenomenon?

Why are you asking me? You are the one posting so called facts. I had to look it up on the internet.

    Oh, great, thanks.

Relating to the topic if I was clamped I wouldn't care how much damage I did to the clamp to get it of, then I'd go looking for the wanker who did it & smack him over the head with the clamp & I'd gladly do the six months.

    Have to disagree, Road warrior.
Council, government or private enterprise do not have the right to interfere with one's private property.

Can I park my car on your driveway ?mines a bit crowded. Thanks.

Hi, I'm really sorry to go off topic, but what's on 6W? I only ever had an 80cm dish & never seen the need to go very far west.

And if a party spokesperson on policing ang justice done that? People would expect better. Well, most people would, certainly mature people, as they know for society to work properly people should not park on double yellow lines and then take the law in to their own hands.

Most people also have jobs, careers, mortgages , family commitments etc and do not have the luxury of being able to take 6 months out.

But actually doing it is alot more crass. The Old Bailey bombing was one of the most violent attacks on the British mainland over 220 people were seriously injured and it was such a stupid place to put a bomb as well, it was a miracle only 1 person was killed.

"British mainland"?? Hup out of that with your 'mainland' talk!

Also you're aware of some of the stuff the Balcombe St Four did yeah?

Freedom of movement doesn’t mean what you think it means.

Oh, indeed. Then I shall redefine it as vandalism.

Will that sit with your definitions?

spoken like a man who has spent plenty of time doing time ,

Redefine what? I’m not sure what vandalism has to do with freedom of movement.

Toll booths interfere with freedom of movement and extract a payment. Would it be OK to blow them up with a bomb?

Don't be so stupid. A toll booth exists much like a turnstile to a football match. If you don't pay you are not contained until you pay.

Like Judith Ward, Guildford 4, Birminigham 6, The Maguire Family, The Bridgewater 4 etc...

No they don't. Just look at the Russian revolution to see how quickly rules on private property can change.

What the hell do you call it? It wasn't the Middle East they were in.

The Balcombe 4 were never Ministers in Stormont lecturing people on violence when they used to egg on people themselves. Just like the SDLP did before Sinn Fein.

I don't think the rights of private property owners extend to being able to leave their cars anywhere they feel like.

    And nobody said that.

You're trying to maintain that private property can be confiscated/and or vandalised.

As I pointed out earlier, and i feel I have been very clear on this point, if a vehicle is left/parked/situated in a manner or area that is restricted or forbidden then the owner/operator ought to be held accountable and punished forthwith. I am quite certain that parking fines are an acceptable response to those who shirk parking restrictions.

Effectively rendering the vehicle inoperable and demanding payment to remove mechanical restrictions is not something that I would deem as anything other than a rip-off and also an attack on private property.

    Who cares?
    Its only clampers.

Why do people feel that a private company have the right to interfere with someone's private property/possession?

Oh you've a sign up saying you'll clamp people for whatever reason?

Fair enough - I must put a sign up with in my car saying anyone that places anything on it will be considered from there on my property, and I reserve the right to remove said property at my discretion.

Thats all the legal impunity I need (am I doing this right?)

He’s says he can’t himself so I should be alright. I’m on my way round now.

And if the car is left somewhere "restricted or forbidden" for a few days, is it OK for someone to tow it away? Would you sue the tow truck company for any damage?

Can you direct me to where this person (regardless of his political persuasion) broke any specific law - especially one that centre's on him (or her) removing a foreign object - placed on his or her private property?

Can I clamp someone for parking in my allocated car parking space outside my office/house if the mood takes me?

Maybe I will, and when I get the lawyers letter for interfering with someone else's vehicle , I'll just link them to your above post and say a randomer on the internet reckons it was ok to do so.

I'd call Britain Britain and Ireland Ireland myself. Our country isn't an offshoot of Britain like.

    Didn't think you would (could).

Good lad Gerry. If Jeffrey (can't believe it's not Daniel O'Donnell) Donaldson or anyone else did the same I'd applaud him/her too (for clarity).

Well six counties of them are according to the Free state constitution.
