It was right to be asked
I was sickened to see our captain attend

I don't see how it has anything to do with Joe or the team. Best has his own reasons but he wasn't there in any official capacity.

I have feelings about it myself but I don't think an Ireland team announcement was the place to ask.

It looks like the gallery was asked not to raise questions about the trial and hence the first question started with 'not about the trial... but what do you think about [this aspect] of the trial'.

Sure way to not get credentials for future Irish Rugby pressers.

There's absolutely no way the IRFU would withdraw credentials from anyone, that's nonsense.

However, the best way to get a journalist to ask a question is to tell them not to ask it. (we don't know if they were told not to ask it, of course)

It's a legitimate question IMO. Maybe not the right forum to ask, it was always going to be a "no comment", but it's a fair question.

If they haven't taken them off Cummiskey, they won't take it off whoever asked that question.

However they don't have the greatest record in the area.

I might be a legitimate question, but I don't think they were every going to get anything but a "do not wish to comment on an on-going trial" type answer*.

*Bearing in mind I didn't see the press conference, but am assuming that's what they got?

    Gotta grab those headlines though.

Nah would have been easier for the reporter to say nothing
The independent had the photo up yesterday but it seems to have been taken down shortly afterwards, not sure if back up
I know I want to know why the Captain of the National team was at the Trial, doubt I'm alone
Joe's answer of "no Comment" was fine, but to say it shouldn't have been asked at all I simply don't agree with

    Still a result for journalist.

"IRFU refused to comment on the Irish captain's controversial decision to attend this gruesome event....you won't believe where he was"

Actually, the question was if Best or Henderson had permission to attend the trial, in which Joes said 'not allowed to comment on legal matters.'

Whether the lads were allowed to go or not is not a legal matter.

I want to know why Best and Henderson were there as well. Completely inappropriate considering the case as well as the fact that it was three days before our first 6 nations game.

It's entirely possible they were there as more than just spectators, e.g. character witnesses. That would explain their presence and Joe's response. I mean it's not like we saw them walk up to the 2 lads and pat them on the back and have a laugh with them.

If someone I worked with every day and who I considered a good friend was brought to court on serious charges of rape or murder I'd like to be there. I don't know whether I'd be there to offer support or to see his face while the victim gave her story but I'd certainly want to be there.

No, that is not the case.

No, that is not the case.

    That's pretty definitive and vague.....

At the end of the day we simply don't know what the craic is and never will. Making speculative guesses from a point of almost total ignorance isn't going to get us anywhere.

They were not there as witnesses or character witnesses. That's not a guess, it's not speculation, it's fact.

Just to clarify; I don't object to them being there but it is a story of immense public interest and the journalists should be asking about it. Again, maybe this press conference is the wrong forum (in fact, it definitely is), but where else can you ask it?

They'd hardly have character witnesses there during the prosecution.

Anyways, they are on their own time they can do whatever the **** they want as far as I'm concerned.

You'd expect that team to hammer France to be honest. But we never hammer France in Paris so don't really know what to expect.

1st time ever that there has been more players from St. Michaels than Blackrock in an Ireland 23?

In any trial the prosecution presents it's case first. Character witnesses for the defence don't show up until much later on.

I can't watch it again now but the journalist opened with 'not asking specifically about the trial but...' which indicated to me that they had been warned not to ask or at least told they would get no comment.

As for the lads attending court. There is a presumption of innocence that we all need to remember to respect. That said and without going into detail, if evidence or facts emerge of a certain nature then common sense would suggest public figures consider keeping their distance.

No, that is not the case.

Maybe they will be there as character witnesses later on in the process and wish to familiarise themselves with the courtroom environment. We don't know.

Personally there are people I know that I would never believe capable of committing crimes unless they admitted it or I saw something in their face when the victim gives an account of the crime.

He was there in a private capacity.

Did you hear what that started over? Apparently the Michaels lads were slagging off the Terenure lads over having cheaper school fees than them. I **** you not.

Went up to play a different Dublin school when I was in school (not recently) and when our bus pulled up we got similar abuse, from non-players. Despised that school and its associated for about a decade, some of my most gratifying victories.

If anyone actually gives a flying f*ck, that says an awful lot about them and nothing whatsoever to do with this thread.

    Back on topic please
