Just watched it, felt so sorry for that girl, Phil is a douchebag and has on a camera persona of a bigger douchebag,

Nothing really to add about Phil, just an utter clown. Very unfair on the girl that she didn't get a proper go on the show and her date was essentially used to generate headlines. I did laugh at her face though when Phil said he wanted another date, and how quickly she turned around after they'd said their goodbyes :D

I can't believe no one mentioned Phils walk from the lift. It was so ridiculous I downloaded 2 apps to try and capture it.

    Does that include blow-up dolls?
Yet he goes on a dating show , clearly the knob is a crap lay if he can’t get any return business.

Myself and the hubby had tears in our eyes from laughing at it! It's the "my-biceps-and-quads-are-huge-so-i-walk-with-my-limbs-2-metres-away-from-my-body" walk. Totally put on.

He does seem a bit contrite about his behaviour in fairness to him.

Tallafornia Phil isn't a nasty bloke from what I can see. He is more the David Brent of the Irish reality tv scene, if such a thing exists. He seems oblivious to himself in many ways, case in point being his statement that he'd be amazed if his date wouldn't want to go out with him again.

If anything he seems to be guilty of trying too hard, and putting on the persona of something, something far from his authentic self. This is nothing new or unusual for people, but it's that his persona is far from convincing that it verges into the comical.

I suspect his OTT brashness is something which has formed from the fact that he hasn't quite moved from dealing with girls in their early 20's to women who have developed a more formidable streak as they get that bit older. I suspect he has had reasonable success in the club scene by walking around in that silverback gorilla style way and commenting on a "great rack" and a "cracking arse" or something like that. It gives off a certain degree of ballsy attitude that will impress some, but it doesn't really reflect a confident character, that requires something else entirely.

I'm sure he'll figure it out one day and good luck to him.

You'd think that but I literally know 3 people personally who signed up for the show!and they didn't get put on tv, just in the background, I don't even have a big circle of friends so I think they're actually just picky and only want funny character types on it!

Did the 3 who were on it find they got a good match?
The applicant selects if they want to be a main dater or a background one I thought?
Yep but I imagine not all those who choose to be a main dater make the cut on the finished aired dates.

Had no idea that the people in the background were also 'first time daters'. Always assumed they were extras or just couples who applied to go on as background diners... they're kinda missing a trick here so - why not concentrate on more than one couple per dinner?

A friend went to school with him said he was very quiet and shy back then so could be trying to act the young lad he never was.

How can he be both oblivious to what he's doing yet trying too hard?

I wouldnt describe him as a David Brent. Brent was not aware of how he was perceived. I think this idiot Phil is very aware of the image he is trying to push.

I wouldnt agree with anyone who is pitying the fella either. The bottom line is that he is a bit of an arsehole. Nothing to be pitied and nothing to be hated. Unfortunately arseholes like that get air-time.

He knows what his authentic self is, that much is self-explanatory.

He can still act separate from this and be totally oblivious to the perception that other people have of them. They can both exist at the same time.

It seemed pretty clear that he was sure as anything that his date was cracked into him, but the signs were fairly well there that that wasn't the case. This is just one example of his behaviour of which nothing has changed from his Tallafornia days.

Much like Brent his perception of himself is a lot different to that which other people view.

I would say he was the worst ever male on First Dates Ireland. His constant crudeness, vulgarity and swearing had me wincing given the context of it being a first date in a restaurant (not to mention turning up with a hangover and knocking back the beers).

Not sure what that poor girl Amy did on the producers to be lumbered with such an oaf.

He’s a toolbag no doubt, but guess what, everybody is talking about him. That’s what he wants. No such thing as bad publicity etc

He's made posts on social media responding to all the stick he gets and there's a video of him being bullied on the street. He must be aware of how he's perceived but still chooses to push his Talafornia image to appeal to a certain type of young one and to make a little Z list "career" for himself. He doesn't deserve any pity anyway, the thick!

Disgusting watching Phil last week. Couldn't believe how he spoke to that girl.

I would say the producers spoke before the show with him and advised him to milk the act/persona during the date.

I diagree, there are lots of examples of bad publicity, not least Coco thinking the presence of a reality TV 'star' would presably be great publicity for the show. Can't speak for the social media consensus, but if indeed the veil has been dropped and they're openly hiring actors and professionals to pad the show, I'm 100% out. I want to watch normal people with (hopefully) interesting stories interact, not the celebrity equivalent of ambulance chasers making fools of themselves for a shot at fame. This is all bad publicity for the show IMO.

Well judging by most of these people's social media followings, they're hungry for attention or fame of some kind and are desperate to get it, which means its basically 80% bullcrap. Mildly entertaining bullcrap, but bullcrap all the same.

Phil strikes me as someone who desperately wants to be famous. This is his third reality TV show (The second was a spin-off from Tallafornia that never aired). It's like he's trying to be Gaz from Geordie Shore but doesn't have the 'looks' to pull it off. Even his tattoos are attention seeking.

I feel quite sorry for him. He needs to grow up a lot and stop living the reality TV dream.

Amy said in another interview that she actually did get up and walk away from the date and the production team convinced her to go back which makes it even more strange that Phil was fully sure he was getting another date.

I think kevin spacey among many other celebrities would disagree that no publicity is bad publicity!

Couldn’t stand him on First Dates. I thought he was completely thick, rude and insulting, uninteresting, and considered himself to be a lot better looking than he was.

However, I would guess that he was encouraged to play his Tallifornia persona (I’ve never seen it, but from what he said, I gather he was behaving in the same way on First Dates). If I’m right about that, then I feel sorry for the guy - he apparently behaved like an utter plonker on Tallifornia, and then repeated it on national tv recently, misguidedly thinking it was funny.

He came across so dreadfully that he’s either incredibly dim, and a bit of a misogynist - or else he’s very gullible re being told how to come across on tv. Either way, he is to be pitied! And it’s not good for First Dates either, granted we’re all talking about him in the immediate aftermath of the show - but long term, I think stunts like this on the part of the production team will really put people off watching

I hate to say it but Trish and her date must be the worst matched couple ever on the show, they just got it completely and utterly wrong I'm afraid. The Eminem guy had the charisma of a bucket as well.

Sorry to go slightly OT but I watched the UK First Dates Hotel (FDH) last night. Such a big difference between the two programs. By the end of FDH last night I was left with a warm fuzzy feeling in my tummy - one couple you would not think of putting together got on really well and dated after the show. Another couple were so well matched, got on like a house on fire and were so cute and loved up!
Such a difference compared to the Irish program. The UK program reminds me that love, hope and romance aren't dead - the Irish one makes me thankful to be married!

I really like First Dates Hotel. Definitely a whole lot less cynical in their choice of dates. And seeing Fred doesnt hurt either.
