Please stop with the betting. There is a thread for it. The betting was bang on last year and it spoiled the show for people.

But it was on Raw first with the poker scenes! :pac:

Yep the betting totally ruined last years result in the end

It was a pretty poor episode of Raw even by normal raw standards. Shame they really could have done so much more in terms of having old talent interacting with new talent. I don't really have a problem with the likes of dx beating up revival or dudleys putting whoever it was through a table that's sort of what these nostalgia shows are for. The two arena idea felt very disjointed. Would have been nice had it just been in Manhatten centre. I would have been furious had I spent that much money to basically be an afterthought. I agree with whomever pointed it out that they probably in hindsight should have done this show last week as opposed to this week. Or even have had a legends battle royal to promote the Rumble. Anything other than just random interactions backstage that usually would occur at a Mania to pass time and get a cheap pop.

I was kinda disappointed that Curt Hawkinsa didn't come out to call out any legend to help his streak to come to an end, only for Brooklyn Brawler to come out.

Lads, please please don't post betting odds or discussions outside of the betting thread. More often than not, they are concrete spoilers (as opposed to some "news" sources speculating stuff), and a lot of even hardcore fans want nothing to do with them. I've deleted some posts referencing them.

I really enjoyed the opening segment of the show with Austin and Vince and Shane. I loved Shane's facial expression when Vince told Austin Shane was in his prime. I thought everything about that was perfect. The rest of the show I thought was desperately disappointing. I couldn't believe with all that talent there that they produced such a poor offering.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,953 ✭✭✭Mr. Guappa

I thought there was some very good stuff. Opening segment was top drawer, Miz/Roman was good and I was pleased that it was a relatively clean win for Mix. Elias/Cena was interesting too I thought, and AJ/Mean Gene worked.

The poor far out-weighed the good though. Undertaker segment was a shambles, what exactly was he trying to communicate? DX with glow sticks? Just stop. Good to see them try to give Finn the rub, but that whole thing felt off. The women's and GM parades were pointless. Could they not have Trish interact with Sasha and put over how big of a deal the women's Rumble is?

    Such a frustrating company.

I know there's discussions elsewhere bout old Jimmy Cornette, but here's his (very accurate) take on Raw 25, with his co-host being Brian Last.

Co-host: "I think WWE is a lost cause. They don't know how to produce good television."

    (mini-rant about camera zooms here)

Co-host: "They don't know how to manage nostalgia. They don't know how to deal with all the tools they have to make people say 'That was great, I think I'm gonna tune in next week.' That show drove people off. There's no way that someone whose a casual person who doesn't watch this bull**** show every Monday saw that show and said, 'Oh man, I gotta watch again next week.'"

Cornette: "There was too much that would appeal to fans that would then say 'Yeah, I remember how great that show used to be' and not enough to appeal to people that would say 'Wow, that was a great show. I want to watch some more of it.'"

Cornette summed up the problem before : no challenge, no interest.

That disgraceful Taker promo sums up the problem the E face; what real consequence is there for that piece of sh1t effort?

if taker is to go on and face Cena or someone at mania than that promo will be put in the 'It never happened' category

why mention Mick Foley cause there are many other bigger stars he could of mentioned ???

did taker mean it's time for all his past opponents to RIP and he's going to create a few new ones

I took from undertakers promo was that he was finshed and all the souls as he put it could finally rest in peace, but obviously thats not the case so it was pointless

On another note, while watching it again last night, when Austin walked out, the reaction on the faces of the crowd (including myself), young and old, smiling, cheering, genuine excitement to see him was incredible, if only the current product and "superstars" could enlist such a response, when JR said that there'll never be another like him, he was spot on.

Probably cause they had a long rivalry & both produced one of the most famous spots & matches in WWE at King of the Ring 1998. Fairly self explanatory

He did his own promos and was allowed to work on his character. He changed from the awful Ringmaster to Stone Cold very quickly. All his own work.

Went from his debut as the Ringmaster to the Austin 3:16 speech in 6 months. Which is a mental timeframe nowadays.

Reigns has basically been the same character for 6 years. Thats nearly the same time as Austins entire run.

I know what he done, im old enough (unfortunately) to remember him as stunning steve, my point is how characters engage the audience, i cant imagine in 20 years time, we'll jump to our feet when music from the current roster hits.

His feud with Mankind from the boiler room brawl to hell in a cell is probably takers most memorable programme so i'd say thats why he mentioned foley

Nobody knows their ability to engage with an audience better than themselves so not being allowed to engage as themselves isn't going to work as well obviously. ie we're seeing WWE's version of Roman Reigns as opposed to what Reigns may want.

Remember WWFs version of the Rock? Under current WWE booking this is all we may have seen from the The Rock.

No point mentioning a big star like The Rock for example if they never really had a big feud.

Taker had some awful storylines for a few years till Foley came into the WWF in 96 and this is when Taker's matches started to improve.

They had buried alive matches, boiler room brawls and Hell in a cell matches. Not to mention Paul Bearer turning on the undertaker to side with Mankind. Foley also got a few wins over Taker.

Definitely in his top 3 opponents for me ahead of "bigger stars".

When Stone Cold made his way to the ring, why couldn't Cole have just kept his mouth shut. Him telling Booker to say Hell yeah was cringe-worthy.

    27 seconds in.

Would've been perfect just fine with Graves "it's deafening in here" line.

Well he was playing a deadman who never sold anything and was a kick and punch merchant for his first few years. It's hard to have good freuds when your character is so limited.

If he doesnt follow procdures laid out by Vince, you can sure as hell bet he will be chewed out for not doing it later.

One of the other producers may not be yelling but is talking to them.

His fake surprise reaction to a return is the worst - "Is it who I think it is?", "It can't be", "It is!!" Same phrases in order every time.

Cole proved that during the UK classic and the beast in the east tour specials that he can be a decent commentator when left to his own devices,

His "you gotta be kidding me, you gotta be kidding me" can also be added.

I can kind of understand when someone's music hits and he is asking "is it who I think it is." as the music playing as a swerve(bro!) has happened. I don't understand how he can still act suprised when the person is standing on the ramp on screen.
